Numerical simulations for understanding fundamental characteristics of the surface plasmon polariton gap waveguide (SPGW) has been demonstrated. The SPGW excited through an aperture have been demonstrated by the three-dimensional simulations using a volume integral equation method. Complex propagation constants calculated by the Method of Lines (MoL) has been shown. Applications of SPGWs to the nanosize E-plane planar optical circuits are also demonstrated.

This paper proposes a new resource allocation algorithm for uplink OFDMA-based cooperative relay networks assuming multiple source nodes, multiple relay nodes and a single destination. The aim is to maximize the total sum of the sources data rates while guaranteeing fairness among them with different QoS requirements. Assuming perfect channel state information (CSI) at the resource allocation controller. The optimization problem is formulated such that each source is assigned a weight factor based on its QoS requirements, then the ones with high weights are given more priority to select their resources (relay stations and subcarriers) first. Once the required QoS is achieved for all sources, the weight factor for all sources will be unity. The remaining resources are allocated to the sources with maximum instantaneous rate. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the greedy and static algorithms in terms of outage probability and fairness.

This paper proposes an algorithm for the blind fractionally spaced equalization (FSE). We show that the rank minimization approach leads to reduce degrees of freedom in the blind FSE problem and improves the quality of equalization. By introducing the nuclear norm heuristic, the design problem of blind channel equalization is formulated as the nuclear norm minimization problem. We also show that the affection of noise is reduced by minimizing the nuclear norm. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Streamlining data acquisition in mobile health care in order to increase accuracy and efficiency can only benefit the patient. The company FERK-Systems has been providing health care information systems for various German medical services for many years. The design and development of a compatible front-end system for handwriting recognition, particularly for use in ambulances was clearly needed. While handwriting recognition has been a classical topic of computer science for many years, many problems still need to be solved. In this paper, we report on the study and resulting improvements achieved by the adaptation of an existing handwriting algorithm, based on experiences made during medical rescue missions. By improving accuracy and error correction the performance of an available handwriting recognition algorithm was increased. However, the end user studies showed that the virtual keyboard is still the overall preferred method compared to handwriting, especially among participants with a computer usage of more than 30 hours a week. This is possibly due to the wide availability of the QUERTY/QUERTZ keyboard.

A soccer game can be seen as a confrontation between two teams of agents where each player, communicating with his teammates, try to interpret in the best way as possible the game situations, achieving its main goals. Today the most important factors in a soccer clubs life and in its coach success are the game results they achieve. They represent the success of the club and in many cases the coachs future. Because of that club coaches usually use automated tools to measure their teams performance all over a soccer competition. Based only in Cartesian coordinates and in a sequential time frame analysis, this research work presents an automatic tool capable to calculate many technical aspects in a soccer match. For the validation tool process, games of simulation 2d RoboCup international competition were used. The results achieved were quite satisfactory. In what concerns to the set of statistics collected more than 92% of the total events were detected and only for the shot event this number dropped to between 74% and 85%. The future work will be concerned in incorporating this project with a real time tracking system and increasing the number of technical aspects calculated by the system.

This paper proposes a method which gives symbolic model of the interconnected linear system using the adjacency matrix which represent the system. When there exist any algebraic loops in the system, they are reduced to the self loops by the edge contraction. If the weight matrix of the self loop is nonsingular, it is removed and the symbolic state space model is obtained, otherwise the symbolic descriptor model is obtained. We introduce a new interactive graphical software tool which have been developed for modeling and simulation of control systems using the proposed method.
