This paper proposes a generic design for 3D model retrieval. It has been developed in cooperation with EADS, which deals with computer Aided Design / computer Aided engineering (below CAD/CAE) data through the product life cycle. Sharing these models with users across the enterprise is a challenging task. CAD/CAE models may be hundreds of megabytes large and stored in proprietary formats. Browsing and previewing this data efficiently requires new tools. One way to leverage the collaboration in and outside of CAD domains is to offer through a repository an access to a neutral 3D data format. Also functionalities for semantic enrichment of 3D models, for the retrieval of context sensitive information and for 3D model retrieval based on 3D similarity search and CBIR techniques should be provided.

Based on the ZeroX algorithm, we proposed a fast and efficient crosstalk-free algorithm called the Fast ZeroX algorithm for solving optical crosstalk problem in omega networks. In our approach, we introduced the concept of inverse conflict matrix (iCM), another representation of a conflict matrix in which it summarizes all possible conflicts between each node in the network. Using iCM, the ZeroX algorithm is simplified, thus improved by reducing the time needed for routing process. From our simulation results, it is shown that our approach yields better performance in terms of minimal routing time in comparison to the original ZeroX algorithm.

The aim of this paper is to present a new design for a controller unit using base 3, which will be named ternary controller unit. The ternary controller unit is planned to be the future brain of the ternary central processing unit. The ternary controller unit controls the fetch and execution cycles of instructions. To achieve this task, the ternary controller unit receives instructions from the instruction register that is ternary, then a ternary decoder decodes those instructions. Finally the ternary controller unit sends the resulting control word (control signals) to other registers and logic circuits of the ternary central processing unit to determines their function at each phase of the fetch-execute cycle.

Quantum computing algorithms are considered for several problems in graph theory. Classical algorithms involve searching over some space for finding the minimal spanning tree problem in a graph. We modify classical Primpsilas algorithm and replace quantum search instead of classical search, of which it will lead to more efficient algorithm. Also we proposed the structure for non-classical algorithms and design the various phases of the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm for classical and quantum parts. Finally, we represent the result of implementing and simulating Primpsilas algorithm in the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm.

This paper presents a novel concept of supplying a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) lamp. An electrical model of the lamp is used in a circuit simulator to study the interactions between the converter and the load, which presents a capacitive nature. The current mode supply is chosen instead of the classical voltage mode, in order to respect the causality considerations concerning these interactions. The converter is designed as a unidirectional current source in series with an H-bridge that inverts the current direction in the lamp each half cycle. Two different structures are presented to compose the unidirectional current source: a Boost based converter and a Buck-Boost based converter. Both converters are analyzed using the state plane and implemented, obtaining measurements that comply with the current mode concept. The presented structures allow the control of the current duration and amplitude, thus, the operating point in the discharge. This concept is the basis for the studies of correlation between the gas current and the UV emission.

This paper is concerned with prototype development and motion control of a dolphin-like underwater robot. The propulsion and maneuvering of the robotic dolphin are realized with the flapping motion of the mechanical flippers and the combined heaving and pitching motions of the fluke. Mechanical design and control of the flipper apparatus and the flexible tail mechanism are presented. Through coordinated control of the propulsors, several swimming movements are designed. Preliminary experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed design scheme.

In this panel, we propose to figure out how requirements engineering and interaction design can be usefully combined. In particular, some people argue that scenarios/ use cases should be concrete, as in story-telling. Others argue for use of "essential" use cases as a methodological approach to interaction and user-interface design. Somewhat in the middle, it is argued that use cases should help acquiring the requirements in the first place. What should the practitioner believe and, in particular, do, in order to develop useful and usable software and systems? Software development and interaction design require different skills and different methods and are typically done by different people. Still, scenario-based design is proposed for several activities relevant for both tasks, such as requirements elicitation, software design, and interaction design. Symbolic modeling in this spirit is actually common to various fields. However, scenario-based approaches vary, especially with regard to their use, e.g., employing abstract use cases or integrating scenarios with functions and goals in a systematic design process. So, the key issue to be raised at the panel is how to combine different approaches, e.g., in scenario-based development, so that the interaction design as well as the development of the user interface and of the software internally result in an overall useful and useable system.

Assuring quality IT solutions demands assuring quality in all aspects of software development process. For this we need well-formed methods with suitable metrics with which we can verify if a process, software product, software component, software artifact or other part of possible solution meets defined quality characteristics. XML Schemas and corresponding XML documents are becoming the most important software artifacts. Today we can find large number of software metrics which are mostly used for software products. Very little has been done in field of metrics for XML Schema specification, especially metrics for evaluating XML Schemas quality. In this paper we will analyze existing XML metrics and their usage and try to hand out preliminary proposal for XML Schema quality framework.

To deal with the evolution of data and applications and with the existence of multiple views for the same data, the object data model needs to be extended with the object extension functionality to allow an object to dynamically change its type, and the object viewing functionality to allow an object to be seen as if it had a different structure and behavior. This paper proposes the virtual type facility which provides a persistent object of INADA, an enhanced C++ persistent programming language compliant with the ODMG standard, with a different structure and behavior from those of its base types. Additionally, it presents the implementation details of the facility. The virtual type facility gives a different interface of an object to redefine its structure and behavior without affecting the behavior of a base type, while the multiple-type object of INADA allows an object to be dynamically extended to model an entity which changes its behavior with time. The virtual type facility integrates the object extension functionality and the object viewing functionality for dealing with the database evolution. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Nowadays course navigation is mostly based on sequence order of pages prepared by the author of the course. Ontology based course navigation, where to every element of ontology some learning material is associated allows to effective navigation to desired information. Article is describing usage of keywords, which are searched in the learning material and keywords - ontology mapping for creating the course navigation. For every page two sets are created - prerequisite and outcome sets, where elements are elements of ontology. Implemented tool for creating this mapping and processing the material is described here.
