Neutrosophic-Supported Machine Learning Models for Oral Disease Classification

This study is presented to investigate the influence of the neutrosophic (NS) domain on the performance of the most common machine learning (ML) models. Specifically, it evaluates the effectiveness of Random Forest (RF), Extra Trees (ET), K-Neighbors (KNN), Gaussian Naive Bayes (GaussianNB), and Decision Tree (DT) classifiers in detecting oral diseases. The NS domain divides any image into three membership components: falsity (F), indeterminacy (I) and truth (T), where T denotes the degree to which each pixel in an image is a member of a particular class or category, F denotes the degree to which the pixel is not a member of that class or category and I denotes the degree of uncertainty or indeterminacy. This domain is herein employed to divide the images into three datasets (T, I, and F). Those three datasets, in addition to the original dataset, one by one, are divided into training and testing datasets with a splitting ratio of 80% and 20%, respectively. Afterwards, the five studied ML models are trained on the training dataset before being assessed on the testing dataset to show their ability to generalize using four performance indicators, such as precision, accuracy, F1-score and recall. According to the experimental results, the I-domain, when compared to the other domains, could considerably increase the performance of four of the five studied ML models, meaning that the NS domain might improve the ML models' performance in categorizing oral diseases more correctly. Among all studied models, the RF classifier with the I-domain has the highest classification accuracy, indicating that it is a strong alternative for oral disease classification. © 2025, University of New Mexico. Synthesis of batik motifs using a diffusion - generative adversarial network

This paper presents a novel approach for generating intricate Batik motifs using a modified Diffusion-Generative Adversarial Network (Diffusion-GAN) augmented with StyleGAN2-Ada. Motivated by the rich cultural heritage of Indonesian Batik, our research addresses the challenge of synthesizing high-quality, diverse patterns that capture the artistry and complexity of traditional designs. Traditional generative models often struggle with stability and fidelity in artistic synthesis. We integrate StyleGAN2-Ada and Diffusion techniques to overcome these limitations, optimizing model architecture and employing a curated Batik dataset. Evaluation metrics including Frechet Inception Distance (FID), Kernel Inception Distance (KID), precision, recall, and non-redundancy assess the quality and diversity of generated motifs. Our results demonstrate significant advancements in the realism and authenticity of synthesized Batik patterns, leveraging Diffusion-GAN to enhance detail and artistic fidelity. By exploring the intersection of deep learning and cultural art, this research contributes to the preservation and evolution of Batik as a cultural artifact. References to prior works underscore the evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cultural heritage preservation, highlighting the potential of modern AI techniques to innovate within traditional art forms like Batik. In summary, this study showcases the efficacy of the proposed Diffusion-GAN methodology in synthesizing original and convincing Batik motifs, while identifying opportunities for further refinement and complexity in motif synthesis. Enhancing demand forecasting through combination of anomaly detection and continuous improvement

Demand forecasting has emerged as a crucial element in supply chain management. It is essential to identify anomalous data and continuously improve the forecasting model with new data. However, existing literature fails to comprehensively cover both aspects of anomaly detection and continuous improvement in demand forecasting. This study proposes an enhanced model to improve accuracy in the demand forecasting. The proposed model introduces a novel data handling method that incorporates an anomaly detection autoencoder, improved with anomaly correction mechanisms. The data handling approach simultaneously detects data anomalies, distinguishes between expected and unexpected anomalies, and corrects anomalous data, ensuring cleaner input for demand forecasting. Then, the proposed model employs a long short-term memory architecture for demand forecasting, enhanced with a continuous improvement method. Thus, the model not only forecasts demand but also retrains the model when the anomaly data surpasses the predetermined threshold, thereby improving the accuracy of forecasting. The results show that the proposed model outperforms other models in detecting data anomalies, achieving an average precision-recall of 0.922, a receiver operating characteristic value of 0.739, and a significance level of less than 0.05. Finally, the model exhibits superior performance in demand forecasting, with average mean squared error, root mean squared error, and mean absolute error values of 33.167, 4.347, and 1.509, respectively, all with a significance level of less than 0.05. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2025.

MCI-GAN: a novel GAN with identity blocks inspired by menstrual cycle behavior for missing pixel imputation

This paper presents MCI-GAN, a novel menstrual cycle imputation (MCI) and generative adversarial network (GAN) framework designed to address the challenge of missing pixel imputation in medical images. Inspired by the intelligent behavior of the endometrial lining during the menstrual cycle, our method introduces four key innovations. First, we propose a novel metaheuristic algorithm that assigns weights to surround pixels based on menstrual cycle behavior, ensuring that the imputed pixels maintain structural integrity and coherence with their neighbors, thus preserving overall image quality. Second, to enhance the learning capability of the GAN, identity blocks are integrated into the network architecture, improving the network’s ability to capture complex spatial relationships and leading to more accurate and consistent imputation of missing pixels. Third, we introduce an adaptive loss function that dynamically adjusts the penalty for pixel discrepancies based on local image context, allowing the model to focus on areas where accurate imputation is most critical and thereby enhancing overall image fidelity. Fourth, the framework incorporates a multi-scale feature extraction mechanism, enabling the GAN to process and combine information at various levels of detail, ensuring that both fine-grained textures and larger structural patterns are accurately captured during the imputation process. The efficacy of MCI-GAN is demonstrated across three diverse medical imaging datasets: mammograms, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, and skin lesion images. Our results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms existing approaches in terms of accuracy and structural coherence, offering a robust solution for missing pixel imputation in medical imaging. © The Author(s) 2025.

Combined deep convolutional neural networks for abnormality classification in wireless capsule endoscopy images

A digestive disease is a condition that affects the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, ranging from mild to severe. Common issues include heartburn, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and lactose intolerance. Additionally, other intestinal concerns such as bleeding, polyps, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, diverticulitis, small bowel syndrome, and intestinal ischemia represent further digestive illnesses. Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) is a device designed for endoscopic exploration that employs a compact camera to capture images of the GI tract as it passes through. WCE significantly aids in the identification of GI tract disorders. However, due to the capsule’s rapid transit and the potential for blurry, ambiguous images, abnormalities in certain regions of the intestine may be overlooked. Moreover, frames can become hazy if obstructed by food or stool waste. In this research, we propose a method for detecting abnormalities in WCE images to address these limitations. To achieve high classification performance through the extraction of both high-level and low-level features, we employ a deep CNN that integrates the DenseNet121 model with a residual block. Experimental studies demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques on two publicly available WCE datasets, one focused on bleeding and the other on various abnormalities. The accuracy of the proposed architecture is 96.96% for the Kvasir-Capsule Dataset and 99.50% for the MICCAI 2017 dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

A novel hybrid deep learning framework for pedestrian detection based on thermal infrared and visible spectrum images

For many intelligent systems, designing accurate pedestrian detection approaches is a fundamental task. This paper describes a novel hybrid system to detect pedestrians using both visible and thermal infrared sensors. The proposed method is achieved in two primary stages. The first stage, hypotheses generation (HG), aims to extract the regions that represent suspected pedestrians from the image. It is performed using both thermal and visible images of the same scene. Here, an improved deep learning-based solution with a convolutional neural network named PedTherm-U-net is proposed. It segments the thermal images and maps the segmentation results into the corresponding visible image to extract the ROIs (candidate pedestrians). The second stage, hypotheses verification (HV), classifies the ROIs extracted from the first stage into pedestrians and non-pedestrians. In the HV step, a novel PedVis-ResNet framework to classify the extracted ROIs is introduced. It is a modified version of ResNet model dedicated to classify the visible pedestrian samples. The proposed method has been tested on the publicly accessible OSU Color-Thermal dataset, and the obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method when compared to the recent state of the art pedestrian detection approaches. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Corrosion poses a significant challenge in industries due to material degradation and high maintenance costs, making effective inhibitors essential. Recent studies suggest expired pharmaceuticals as alternative corrosion inhibitors, but identifying the most efficient compounds can be time-consuming. This study applies machine learning models, particularly Gradient Boosting Regressor (GBR), to predict corrosion inhibition efficiency (CIE). The developed model is integrated into a web-based application, enabling real-time, accurate CIE predictions. Results show GBR as the more precise model for predicting CIE, with low error rates. The streamlit-based web application offers a user-friendly platform, facilitating quick identification of suitable inhibitors. It is flexible, supporting analysis beyond corrosion inhibitors, and significantly enhances the efficiency of the evaluation process. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Job Resumes Recommendation using Integration of Fuzzy Discernibility Matrix Feature Selection and Convolutional Neural Network Multi-label Text Classification

The manual analysis of job resumes poses specific challenges, including the time-intensive process and the high likelihood of human error, emphasizing the need for automation in content-based recommendations. Recent advancements in deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for Multi-label Text Classification (MLTC), offer a promising solution for addressing these challenges through artificial intelligence. While CNN is renowned for its robust feature extraction capabilities, it faces specific challenges such as managing high-dimensional data and poor data interpretability. To address these limitations, this study employs the Fuzzy Discernibility Matrix (FDM) feature selection technique to determine the relevance of skills for each job vacancy. FDM assigns weights to the features of each job category and ranks their relevance based on the highest scores, which are then utilized in the MLTC CNN model. The integration of FDM and MLTC CNN serves as the foundation for generating content-based recommendations derived from key features in job resumes. This study produces a content-based job recommendation system that displays the top three job categories, accompanied by explanations of the skills supporting each selected category. These recommendations also consider cosine similarity values between analyzed items and the integrated results of FDM and MLTC CNN. The application of FDM for feature weighting has been proven to enhance multi-label text classification outcomes by providing better insights during the feature selection process. With a recall of 97.26%, precision of 94.81%, and accuracy of 98.58%, the MLTC model integrating FDM feature selection and CNN demonstrates robust performance characteristics in content-based job recommendation tasks. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. R2A-UNET: double attention mechanisms with residual blocks for enhanced MRI image segmentation

Gliomas, a highly aggressive and malignant category of brain tumors, continue to pose a significant global health challenge. Originating from the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of glial cells within the brain, these tumors often result in severe neurological impairments and high mortality rates, underscoring the urgency for improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Early diagnosis can significantly improve outcomes and survival. Consequently, precise segmentation of tumor tissue in medical images is critical for accurate brain tumor diagnosis and effective treatment. However, achieving high-precision segmentation remains challenging due to the complex and variable nature of tumor structures in medical images. To address this problem, we developed R2A-UNET, a U-shaped architecture that leverages the power of residual blocks and attention mechanisms. To enhance the model’s ability to capture critical and relevant information, we incorporated two advanced attention mechanisms. These mechanisms are designed to prioritize important features while suppressing irrelevant or redundant details, thereby significantly improving the efficiency and accuracy of feature extraction across varying datasets. Normalized Channel Attention (NCA) was integrated in each encoder stage, generating a squeezed vector with relevant features at the end of the contracting path. Normalized Spatial Attention (NSA) was included in the skip connection in the middle of the encoder and decoder, generating more concentrated feature maps before concatenation on the decoder side. These mechanisms enable the model to focus on specific pixel values that more accurately localize abnormalities. In our study, we evaluated the performance of our model using two MRI image datasets: the LGG (Lower-Grade Glioma) segmentation database and the BraTS 2018 dataset. Fine Tuning Attribute Weighted Naïve Bayes (FTAWNB) is a reliable modified Naïve Bayes model. Even though it is able to provide high accuracy on ordinal data, this model is sensitive to outliers. To improve the performance of FTAWNB, this research modified the Partial Instances Reduction (PIR) technique to make the FTAWNB more adaptive to outliers. Nevertheless, in contrast to the original PIR technique, which substitutes missing values for data values deemed outliers, the PIR technique suggested in this study replaces data values deemed outliers using a Naïve Bayes weighting approach. The attribute values from the outlier data are replaced with the highest probability values for the attributes in the actual class. This PIR technique is referred to as modified PIR. The FTAWNB model with modified PIR has been evaluated using the Gaming Disorder dataset. Replacing the four attributes with the least amount of information resulted in accuracy gains of 99.74%, an increase of 1.53% over the FTAWNB model. The experimental result shows that adding the modified PIR technique to the FTAWNB model can handle the outlier in the data, proving it by increasing the performance in terms of accuracy, precision, and recall without pruning the dataset used. © 2025, Ital Publication.
