Accurate prediction of mortality in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a complex malignancy particularly challenging in advanced stages, is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. However, this predictive process is often compromised by the high-dimensional and heterogeneous nature of NPC-related data, coupled with the pervasive issue of incomplete multi-modal data, manifesting as missing radiological images or incomplete diagnostic reports. Traditional machine learning approaches suffer significant performance degradation when faced with such incomplete data, as they fail to effectively handle the high-dimensionality and intricate correlations across modalities. Even advanced multi-modal learning techniques like Transformers struggle to maintain robust performance in the presence of missing modalities, as they lack specialized mechanisms to adaptively integrate and align the diverse data types, while also capturing nuanced patterns and contextual relationships within the complex NPC data. To address these problem, we introduce IMAN: an adaptive network for robust NPC mortality prediction with missing modalities. IMAN features three integrated modules: the Dynamic Cross-Modal Calibration (DCMC) module employs adaptive, learnable parameters to scale and align medical images and field data;the Spatial-Contextual Attention Integration (SCAI) module enhances traditional Transformers by incorporating positional information within the self-attention mechanism, improving multi-modal feature integration;and the Context-Aware Feature Acquisition (CAFA) module adjusts convolution kernel positions through learnable offsets, allowing for adaptive feature capture across various scales and orientations in medical image modalities. Extensive experiments on our proprietary NPC dataset demonstrate IMAN's robustness and high predictive accuracy, even with missing data. Rf-based fingerprinting for indoor localization: deep transfer learning approach

Transfer Learning (TL) has emerged as a powerful approach for improving the performance of Deep Learning systems in various domains by leveraging pre-trained models. It was proven that features learned by deep learning can smoothly be reused across similar domains. Deep transfer learning schemes compensate for limited training data via transfer learning of a rich data environment. This paper investigates the effectiveness of applying TL schemes in indoor localization. It proposes four deep TL models where the knowledge is transferred from the rich-measurement data source domain to multiple target domains with limited data measurements. The architecture of the source domain is based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), where the four deep TL models for the target domain are: standalone feature extractor, integrated feature extractor, selective fine-tuning, and weight initialization. We employed a dataset of RF fingerprinting measurement signals representing common interior conditions, including extremely crowded, medium cluttered, low cluttered, and open environments, to test the effectiveness of the proposed TL models. We measured the accuracy and computation time of target-domain models trained, with varied percentages of restricted data sizes: 40%, 30%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 5%, and 2.5%. The experimental results show that all TL models are effective in achieving significant improvement in accuracy when compared to non-transferred models, even with minimal training data size. However, the proper determination of the TL model and the amount of training data profoundly influence the performance results. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In broad terms, swarm intelligence refers to the phenomenon where groups of agents exhibit complex behaviour that is notably different from their individual behaviour outside the context of a group. Although commonly observed in nature, these principles have been effectively utilized in computational settings. This study explores swarm intelligence further, discussing the origins of fish inspired computational intelligence, emphasizing notable examples, and core concepts. Key among these concepts are emergent behaviour, distinct behaviours at the group level, and the design of a swarm intelligence ontology that puts together the internal rules guiding swarm behaviour. The focus in this paper is on aquatic swarms, detailing their individual activities, how emergent behaviour arises from these activities, and attempting to simulate such emergent behaviour in computational terms. While much research in swarm intelligence focuses on nature-inspired problem-solving techniques, this study seeks to provide a more comprehensive overview of how aquatic swarm systems fit into this domain. Through a combination of traditional quantitative research and computational methods, this article offers both a theoretical discussion and an interactive visual representation of these principles in the aquatic domain that cause emergent behaviour at swarm level. Throughout, the aim is to propose alternative methods for applying artificial intelligence principles in a manner that goes beyond conventional data-driven approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

To prevent irreversible damage to one’s eyesight,ocular diseases(ODs)need to be recognized and treated *** fundus imaging(CFI)is a screening technology that is both effective and *** to CFIs,the early stages of the disease are characterized by a paucity of observable symptoms,which necessitates the prompt creation of automated and robust diagnostic *** traditional research focuses on image-level diagnostics that attend to the left and right eyes in isolation without making use of pertinent correlation data between the two sets of *** addition,they usually only target one or a few different kinds of eye diseases at the same *** this study,we design a patient-level multi-label OD(PLML_ODs)classification model that is based on a spatial correlation network(SCNet).This model takes into consideration the relevance of patient-level diagnosis combining bilateral eyes and multi-label ODs ***_ODs is made up of three parts:a backbone convolutional neural network(CNN)for feature extraction i.e.,DenseNet-169,a SCNet for feature correlation,and a classifier for the development of classification *** DenseNet-169 is responsible for retrieving two separate sets of attributes,one from each of the left and right *** then,the SCNet will record the correlations between the two feature sets on a pixel-by-pixel *** the attributes have been analyzed,they are integrated to provide a representation at the patient *** the whole process of ODs categorization,the patient-level representation will be *** efficacy of the PLML_ODs is examined using a soft margin loss on a dataset that is readily accessible to the public,and the results reveal that the classification performance is significantly improved when compared to several baseline approaches.

Proper waste management models using recent technologies like computer vision,machine learning(ML),and deep learning(DL)are needed to effectively handle the massive quantity of increasing ***,waste classification becomes a crucial topic which helps to categorize waste into hazardous or non-hazardous ones and thereby assist in the decision making of the waste management *** study concentrates on the design of hazardous waste detection and classification using ensemble learning(HWDC-EL)technique to reduce toxicity and improve human *** goal of the HWDC-EL technique is to detect the multiple classes of wastes,particularly hazardous and non-hazardous *** HWDC-EL technique involves the ensemble of three feature extractors using Model Averaging technique namely discrete local binary patterns(DLBP),EfficientNet,and *** addition,the flower pollination algorithm(FPA)based hyperparameter optimizers are used to optimally adjust the parameters involved in the EfficientNet and DenseNet121 ***,a weighted voting-based ensemble classifier is derived using three machine learning algorithms namely support vector machine(SVM),extreme learning machine(ELM),and gradient boosting tree(GBT).The performance of the HWDC-EL technique is tested using a benchmark Garbage dataset and it obtains a maximum accuracy of 98.85%.

A chest radiology scan can significantly aid the early diagnosis and management of COVID-19 since the virus attacks the *** X-ray(CXR)gained much interest after the COVID-19 outbreak thanks to its rapid imaging time,widespread availability,low cost,and *** radiological investigations,computer-aided diagnostic tools are implemented to reduce intra-and inter-observer *** lately industrialized Artificial Intelligence(AI)algorithms and radiological techniques to diagnose and classify disease is *** current study develops an automatic identification and classification model for CXR pictures using Gaussian Fil-tering based Optimized Synergic Deep Learning using Remora Optimization Algorithm(GF-OSDL-ROA).This method is inclusive of preprocessing and classification based on *** data is preprocessed using Gaussian filtering(GF)to remove any extraneous noise from the image’s ***,the OSDL model is applied to classify the CXRs under different severity levels based on CXR *** learning rate of OSDL is optimized with the help of ROA for COVID-19 diagnosis showing the novelty of the *** model,applied in this study,was validated using the COVID-19 *** experiments were conducted upon the proposed OSDL model,which achieved a classification accuracy of 99.83%,while the current Convolutional Neural Network achieved less classification accuracy,i.e.,98.14%.
