Many datasets are of increasingly high dimension- ality, where a large number of features could be irrelevant to the learning task. The inclusion of such features would not only introduce unwanted noise but also increase computational complexity. Deep neural networks (DNNs) outperform machine learning (ML) algorithms in a variety of applications due to their effectiveness in modelling complex problems and handling high-dimensional datasets. However, due to non-linearity and higher-order feature interactions, DNN models are unavoidably opaque, making them black-box methods. In contrast, an interpretable model can identify statistically significant features and explain the way they affect the model's outcome. In this paper, we propose a novel method to improve the interpretability of blackbox models in the case of high-dimensional datasets. First, a black-box model is trained on full feature space that learns useful embeddings on which the classification is performed. To decompose the inner principles of the black-box and to identify top-k important features (global explainability), probing and perturbing techniques are applied. An interpretable surrogate model is then trained on top-k feature space to approximate the black-box. Finally, decision rules and counterfactuals are derived from the surrogate to provide local decisions. Our approach outperforms tabular learners, e.g., TabNet and XGboost, and SHAP-based interpretability techniques, when tested on a number of datasets having dimensionality between 54 and 20,53111GitHub: https://***/rezacsedu/DeepExplainHidim. © 2023 IEEE.

Clinacanthus nutans (Burm. f.) Lindau (C. nutans) is renowned in many tropical countries for its wide range of traditional uses and medicinal properties. This study qualitatively screened ethanol, hexane, and ethyl acetate (EA) leaf extracts of C. nutans for phytochemicals and evaluated their antioxidant activities using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. Furthermore, the photocytotoxicity of the extracts against the A431 human skin squamous carcinoma cells was assessed using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Qualitative phytochemicals screening revealed the presence of terpenes, alkaloids, phenols, quinones, and chlorophyll, whereas flavonoids and anthraquinones were absent in all crude extracts. In the DPPH assay, the EA crude extract exhibited the lowest EC₅₀ value of 31 ± 2 μg/mL, whereas the same extract demonstrated the highest FRAP value of 7.42 ± 1.87 mmol Fe2+/g DW. After photodynamic therapy (PDT) activation, EA crude extract demonstrated the strongest photocytotoxic activity against A431 cells with an IC₅₀ value of 8 ± 1 μg/mL, followed by the hexane crude extract (IC₅₀ = 16 ± 2 μg/mL) and the ethanol crude extract (IC₅₀ = 20 ± 1 μg/mL). However, all three crude extracts showed negligible activity against the A431 cells in the absence of PDT treatment, even at concentrations as high as 200 μg/mL after 24 h of dark incubation. These findings suggest that C. nutans could serve as a potential source of natural antioxidants and photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy in cancer treatment. © 2023, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Society for Plant Research.

This article explores the importance of IT risk management, especially at XYZ Vocational School. The agency is equipped to manage business risks, emphasizing the need to improve decision-making and risk mitigation by identifying potential hazards and evaluating internal and external threats, including hacking risks. The research investigates IT risk management at XYZ Vocational School using a qualitative and quantitative method with a focus on the APO12 COBIT 5 domain: Align, plan, and organize. It assesses subdomains such as data collection, risk analysis, profile maintenance, risk articulation, portfolio management, and response strategies. Conclusively, the research reveals institutional IT capabilities at level 1 (Performed Process) in the APO12 subdomain. Recommendations include developing COBIT-compliant SOPs for processes at this level, highlighting the need for further improvements in IT governance. This study provides valuable insights into IT risk management practices, offering recommendations for improving IT governance in educational settings. © 2024 IEEE.

Parkinson's disease (PD) profoundly impacts millions in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of early detection for better patient outcomes. We introduce 'NeuraTrace PD,' an innovative application for early PD screening, combining brain MRI, hand-drawn image analysis, facial expression assessment, and voice analysis. For brain MRI analysis, we employed a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), achieving an impressive accuracy of 91% and identifying distinct graph connectivity patterns using graph theory. We also use a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to reach 90% accuracy in analyzing hand-drawn images, while optimizing image resolution for efficiency and information retention. Facial expression analysis is a vital component, leveraging CNN and Constrained Local Models (CLM) to accurately extract Facial Action Units (FAUs), which contribute to a remarkable 95% accuracy using the XGBoost machine learning model. We introduce a Machine Learning (ML) algorithm and advanced signal processing to enhance voice feature analysis, offering a thorough understanding and classification of PD patients. It reaches 99% accuracy. In summary, our approach holds significant promise for advancing early PD diagnosis, ultimately improving the quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition. © 2023 IEEE.

The aim of this study is to improve the performance of detection Birds Species by proposed a hybrid model using a combination of MobileNetV2 for feature extraction, an Autoencoder for dimensionality reduction, and Support Vector Machines (SVM) for classification. The methodology includes preprocessing, augmentation, feature extraction, and classification phases. The proposed model is evaluated using the Bird Species dataset, consisting of 525 bird species the dataset is carefully curated to ensure cleanliness and absence of leakage between sets. The evaluation metrics include precision, recall, accuracy, and F-measure. The results have shown the efficiency of the proposed model in bird species classification. © 2024 IEEE.

Producing learning videos for flipped classrooms is a time-consuming and manual task. This paper presents a method and software to create SCORM units for computer science courses. The method consists of a common structure for learning videos, a Python script to create SCORM units, and ChatGPT for quiz creation. The software is based on the open-source software FFmpeg for video production. The results after 40 learning units show that producing a learning video can be automated to a great extent.
