Wearable motion sensors are gaining traction for fitness activity tracking due to their utility in assisted living, wellness tracking, and fitness training applications. Such sensors typically incorporate accelerometers and gyroscopes to monitor and log physical activities. This work proposes a deep-learning approach for identifying fitness activities using wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs) signals. Specifically, a convolutional neural network (CNN) integrated with a convolutional block attention module (CBAM) provides the core framework. The CBAM module applies channel and spatial attention mechanisms to enhance CNN's capacity to discriminate salient features. Multichannel IMU time-series data, comprising accelerometer and gyroscope readings as subjects perform various exercises, supply input to the model. By learning via an attention-enhanced architecture, the model can extract robust and informative representations to categorize activities accurately. Experiments on a public IMU dataset with five exercise types across over twenty participants evaluated the approach. Results showed over 99.58% subject-independent activity recognition accuracy when augmenting the CNN with CBAM, constituting significant performance gains. The research findings indicate that an efficient deep-learning solution with attention modeling can recognize fitness activities reliably from on-body sensors. The proposed methodology holds substantial promise for applications in sports analytics and personalized health tracking. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper introduces an improved version of well-known Sooty Tern Optimization Algorithm (STOA). The improved version combines Opposition based learning (OBL) to introduce the Improved Sooty Tern Optimization Algorithm (ISTOA). The OBL strategy increases population diversity and avoids falling into local solutions. The efficiency of the proposed ISTOA is verified on multilevel threshold segmentation based on the objective functions of Kapur, and its performance is compared with the original algorithm and another metaheuristic algorithm. Experimental results reveal that the proposed ISTOA outperforms other algorithms in terms of fitness, peak signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity, and segmentation findings. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This study introduces a novel approach to identifying human activities using wearable sensors, particularly smart-phones and smartwatches. By leveraging deep learning neural networks and data from the HHAR dataset, which includes accelerometer and gyroscope data from individuals engaged in various activities, our method, centered around the HAR-Res NeXt model, accurately detects six activities. Utilizing residual connections and multi-kernel blocks, our approach effectively captures temporal and spatial relationships in sensor data. Experimental results demonstrate superior performance to standard machine learning algorithms and other deep learning approaches for human activity recognition. HAR-ResNeXt achieves high accuracy rates, particularly in classifying smartphone sensor data, underscoring its adaptability across diverse scenarios. Comparative analysis reveals the effectiveness of smartphone sensors and emphasizes the importance of multi-modal sensor fusion for accurate activity detection. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhancing Medical Support in the Arabic Language Through Personalized ChatGPT Assistance

This Paper discusses the growing popularity of online medical diagnosis as an alternative to traditional doctor visits. It highlights the limitations of existing tools and emphasizes the advantages of using ChatGPT, which provides real-time, personalized medical diagnosis at no cost. The paragraph summarizes a research study that evaluated the performance of ChatGPT in Arabic medical diagnosis. The study involved compiling a dataset of disease information and generating multiple messages for each disease using different prompting techniques. ChatGPT's performance was assessed by measuring the similarity between its responses and the actual diseases. The results showed promising performance, with average scores of around 76% for similarity measures. Various prompting techniques were used, and chain prompting demonstrated a relative advantage. The study also recorded an average response time of 6.12 seconds for the ChatGPT API, which is considered acceptable but has room for improvement. While ChatGPT cannot replace human doctors entirely, the findings suggest its potential in emergency cases and addressing general medical inquiries. Overall, the study highlights ChatGPT's viability as a valuable tool in the medical field. © 2024, CC BY.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment and prognosis in otherwise healthy people is an important part of disease management. Early detection and diagnosis of CVD, supported by the extensive health data on the condition already stored in hospital systems, has the ability to greatly improve disease outcomes. Clinical practice for the management of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) stands to benefit greatly from the use of machine learning approaches. Patients and the healthcare system can save money thanks to these methods, which can be used to create evidence-based clinical guidelines and management algorithms. This will cut down on expensive and time-consuming clinical and laboratory examinations. This study suggests creating new deep learning algorithms that can automatically identify important variables and detect early-stage heart disease;these algorithms should be resilient, effective, efficient, and unique in order to improve early anticipation and interference for CVDs. An F1-score of around 89% is produced by the suggested Catboost model. Hence, it outperformed numerous other state-of-the-art methods by maximizing classification efficiency with better correctness and precision. © 2024 IEEE.

As a consequence of the Covid-19 outbreak, students are required to stay at home to prevent the virus from spreading. This has resulted in a quick acceptance of online learning, as students and faculty cannot participate in in-class activities. This study examines the determinants affecting E-Learning uptake in Oman during the Covid-19 outbreak, using 223 student responses and structural equation modeling (SEM). Four hypotheses were supported, while two were rejected. Specifically, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and institutional support affect behavioral intention to adopt E-Learning. However, infrastructure support and privacy risk, on the other hand, were not. Thus, this research serves as a springboard for higher education officials to increase the use of E-Learning and adjust to student hurdles for students to comprehend and effectively use the system. © 2022 IEEE.

Genetic algorithms are widely used for solving optimization problems. As the search space of the problem is augmented, the probability of falling into local minima will be augmented as well. Previous works showed that the adjusted phase (i.e. required modification per generation), may enhance badly the optimality reaching. Moreover, the search for suitable probabilities on crossover and mutation results in huge computational complexity. Recent developments in quantum technology have shown that quantum computers can provide a dramatic advantage over classical computers. This paper will be oriented toward computer scientists interested in the quantum genetic algorithm (QGA). Therefore, we will present a discussion, of the pros, and cons of classical GA. We survey the 'state of the art' of the most known techniques for evolving evolutionary algorithms and quantum computing. We intend in this work to help researchers and application developers in gaining insights into the power of quantum computing mechanisms. This science can inherently treat the balance between exploration and exploitation of the search space. This property is due to the use of Q-bits. The orientation toward the best solution is due to the use of Q-gates. © 2023 IEEE.

Metaheuristic optimization algorithms present an effective method for solving several optimization problems from various types of applications and *** metaheuristics and evolutionary optimization algorithms have been emerged recently in the literature and gained widespread attention,such as particle swarm optimization(PSO),whale optimization algorithm(WOA),grey wolf optimization algorithm(GWO),genetic algorithm(GA),and gravitational search algorithm(GSA).According to the literature,no one metaheuristic optimization algorithm can handle all present optimization *** novel optimization methodologies are still *** Al-Biruni earth radius(BER)search optimization algorithm is proposed in this *** proposed algorithm was motivated by the behavior of swarm members in achieving their global *** search space around local solutions to be explored is determined by Al-Biruni earth radius calculation method.A comparative analysis with existing state-of-the-art optimization algorithms corroborated the findings of BER’s validation and testing against seven mathematical optimization *** results show that BER can both explore and avoid local *** has also been tested on an engineering design optimization *** results reveal that,in terms of performance and capability,BER outperforms the performance of state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms.
