Integrating the competition and the cooperation perspectives on value co-creation in platform ecosystems, this study explores complementor responses to platform owner moves that adversely affect the complementor's positioning. Our primary focus is to discern dynamic patterns of complementor responses and to understand their role in the process of re-stabilising the complementor's positioning. To this end, we conducted a 14-year longitudinal study, analysing 21 move-response instances across four platform partnerships. Our findings reveal three distinct complementor response archetypes: insist, pivot, and detach. Over time, complementors combine these archetypes into three unique response patterns. Through progressive diverging, complementors sidestep platform owner moves by diversifying their offer beyond the focal ecosystem. Although this can entail substantial multi-homing costs, it reduces dependence on the platform owner and bolsters resilience against future moves. Through adaptive oscillating, complementors use platform owner moves as opportunities to gradually diversify their offer within the focal ecosystem. This stepwise market expansion makes them resilient against future moves, while mitigating costs and efforts related to multi-homing. Through persistent insisting, complementors can re-establish their previous positioning, but at the cost of increased dependence on the platform owner, leaving the complementor vulnerable to future moves. We synthesise these findings in our process model of complementor positioning. Emphasising the importance of complementor responses in fostering resilient software ecosystems, this model bears important implications for research on platform governance and platform-dependent entrepreneurship. © 2024 The Authors. information systems Journal published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

With the advent of state-of-the-art computer and digital technology, modern civilisation has been immensely facilitated and optimised. The Internet of Things (IoT) has grown in importance in recent years, allowing us to monitor our physical environments and broadening our horizons. The "practice, science, or art" of farming is defined as tending to land, growing crops with the use of different tools and techniques, and then selling the harvested food. If farmers optimise their operations with the help of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), they will be able to work much more efficiently and effectively. Data aggregation involves collecting information from multiple sensors. The data aggregation process is optimised by applying metaheuristic techniques. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a method for modelling evolution that uses mutation, crossover, and natural selection as its building blocks. The key benefit of the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) approach is that it simultaneously considers local and global search, and it doesn't get trapped calculating its local minima. Naturalistic algorithms like ALO model their hunting behaviour after that of ant-lions and doodlebugs. It manages to find a happy medium between exploration and exploitation with just one operator. Experimental evidences show that the proposed metaheuristic technique, ABC-ALO, which combines the best elements of Artificial Bee Colony and Ant Lion Optimisation, is superior to existing metaheuristic approaches in terms of lifetime computation, or the number of alive nodes at different round counts. © 2025

An efficient feature selection and classification system for microarray cancer data using genetic algorithm and deep belief networks

Cancer is one of the most devastating health conditions in the world. In the diagnosis and treatment of the various forms of cancer illness, studies have shown that early detection of the cancer by clinical methods usually takes a considerable lengthy time. This informs searching for an alternative non-clinical diagnosis of cancer cases using microarray technology. Therefore, this study develops an efficient feature selection and classification method for high-dimensional microarray cancer data by combining Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Deep Belief Networks (DBN). The study employed a GA for selecting the most informative gene biomarker and DBN for the classification of biological samples. In a Monte Carlo experiment, the simulated and real-life microarray datasets were partitioned into 95% training and 5% test samples at 100 to 1000 epochs. The classifier was constructed using the training datasets while its efficiency was assessed on the test sample using the Misclassification Error Rate, Sensitivity, Specificity, and Receiver Operating Characteristic Analysis. The GA and DBN were implemented using Caret and Deepnet (R statistical packages). The proposed GADBN method was implemented using simulated and real-life datasets, which yielded out-of-bag average classification accuracy of 98.8% and 93.1% respectively. The proposed GADBN outperformed the other existing classifiers;and the GADBN method was more efficient with a smaller Misclassification Error Rate (MER) for Leukaemia 1 (0.18), Prostate 1 (0.35) and Prostate 3 (0.09) datasets than some of the existing methods under various performance indices considered. The proposed model is a powerful and effective instrument for identifying useful features in microarray cancer data and classifying the cancer types accordingly. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

As healthcare services have become increasingly digitized, Electronic Health Records (EHRs) have become widely adopted, providing seamless data exchange among providers. Conventional EHRs, however, are extremely vulnerable to cyber threats because patients' sensitive data is centralized and transmitted electronically. The paper proposes a decentralized, privacy-preserving framework for managing EHRs on blockchains in order to address these security and privacy concerns. Using cryptographic techniques, such as homomorphic encryption and zero-knowledge proofs, the proposed system enhances security and ensures data integrity. Additionally, the model facilitates scalable, efficient, and secure access to patient records through the integration of cloud-based storage and blockchain. Using smart contracts, we also ensure compliance with healthcare regulations by regulating access control and authentication. As a result of performance evaluations, the proposed approach is demonstrated to be feasible, and the advantages it offers in terms of security, privacy, and efficiency are highlighted. © 2025 The Authors

This paper aims to show that there exists a weak solution to the following quasilinear system driven by the M-Laplacian (Formula presented.) where Ω is a bounded open subset in R^N and (-Δ_m) is the M-Laplacian operator. Here we consider the non-reflexive case taking into account the Orlicz and Orlicz-Sobolev Space. The non-reflexive case occurs when the N-function M¯ does not verify the Δ₂-condition. We consider an approximated quasilinear elliptic problem driven by the M_ϵ-Laplacian and using the Mountain Pass Theorem to obtain the existence of a nontrivial and nonnegative solution for the above system in reflexive case. For the teaching of agile methods in an IT undergraduate course we developed a gamified blended learning course. We created the course with gamification elements such as videos, quizzes, badges, and points in the learning management system Moodle. In this paper, we first share our experiences with distributed practice in this course and how gamification supported our flipped classroom approach. We also briefly present results of a survey study that investigated intrinsic motivation with an earlier version of the course and that revealed mixed results, i.e., an increase of intrinsic motivation for some factors, but not for all factors. The evaluation results and observations motivated a future research agenda aimed at further improving and continuously evaluating the impact of gamification on intrinsic motivation to ultimately promote distributed practice as well as sustained learning combined with fun for the students. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The TMAP Framework: Describing the Design Space of Technology-Mediated Audience Participation in Live Music

Technology-mediated audience participation (TMAP) offers a wide variety of ways to enhance the involvement of spectators during a music performance. Technological change has created rich new opportunities for such interactive performance experiences. Effective design of TMAP requires balancing knowledge from diverse human and technological perspectives and taking into account very different characteristics and requirements in live music performance. However, research in this distinctive area of interaction design is limited, and the provision of practical guidance for designers has been scarcely addressed thus far. To bridge this gap, we propose the TMAP Framework, which describes the design space of audience participation in a practice-oriented way to support design-related processes. This descriptive framework is grounded on existing literature from the last 25 years, and has been iteratively improved and peer reviewed with different experts. It was validated using actual TMAP performances not included in the framework development. The TMAP Framework contains 180 entities in a tree-like sorted structure on four levels. Alongside the contribution to knowledge of extensively describing the design space of TMAP in live music, with the validation of the framework, we demonstrate its completeness, stability and generalisability. In this regard, the framework may also serve as a common language between different perspectives and practitioners, thus addressing the highly interdisciplinary nature of the TMAP field. © 2013 IEEE.

Segmentation of brain tumors aids in diagnosing the disease early, planning treatment, and monitoring its progression in medical image analysis. Automation is necessary to eliminate the time and variability associated with traditional segmentation methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and U-Net architectures have demonstrated their efficiency and effectiveness in segmenting brain tumors from MRI images using deep learning techniques. The paper presents an improved U-Net-based segmentation algorithm that integrates nested skip paths to improve encoder-decoder feature fusion. The performance of segmentation was optimized by utilizing a variety of activation functions and loss functions, including Dice Loss and Intersection over Union (IoU). A high level of accuracy was demonstrated in the proposed model when it was evaluated using the LGG Segmentation Dataset. The proposed approach for segmenting medical images has been shown to be both robust and efficient in a comparative analysis. © 2025 The Authors

DP-ARTS: Dynamic Prioritization for Adaptive Resource Allocation and Task Scheduling in Cloud Computing

Efficient task scheduling and resource allocation are essential for optimizing performance in cloud computing environments. The presence of priority constraints necessitates advanced solutions capable of addressing the increased complexity in the task scheduling process and resource allocation management. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, Dynamic Prioritization and Adaptive Resource Allocation and Task Scheduling (DP-ARTS), to tackle these challenges by integrating dynamic task prioritization with adaptive resource allocation and scheduling strategies. Our approach introduces a scoring mechanism to prioritize tasks based on deadlines, resource requirements, and other critical characteristics. Furthermore, we utilize K-means clustering to group Virtual Machines (VMs) according to their capabilities, facilitating more efficient task-to-VM mapping. Through simulations conducted with real-world workload traces in the CloudSim toolkit, DP-ARTS demonstrates superior performance in reducing makespan and energy consumption, while also improving resource utilization and load balancing compared to existing solutions. © (2025), (International Association of Engineers).
