An Experimental Study on Dynamic Lifelong Learning with GPT for Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting in Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis

GPT is widely recognized as one of the most versatile and powerful large language models, excelling across diverse domains. However, its significant computational demands often render it economically unfeasible for individuals and small businesses, underscoring the need for efficient, domainspecific alternatives. In Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA), existing models are typically optimized for single domains, facing challenges in performing effectively across multiple domains. A key issue, known as "catastrophic forgetting," arises when models trained on one domain lose previously learned knowledge upon exposure to new domain data. This leads to two significant problems: limited cross-domain generalization and difficulty in retaining prior knowledge while learning domain-specific information. To address these challenges, we introduce the Dynamic Lifelong Learning Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis GPT (DllaGPT), a model designed to handle multiple domains while mitigating catastrophic forgetting. Leveraging datasets from four ABSA domains—Laptops, Restaurants, Tweets, and Finance—this study fine-tunes a pretrained GPT model from HuggingFace sequentially across domains. DllaGPT employs a mechanism to retain real data from earlier domains during new domain training, effectively preserving prior knowledge. Experimental results highlight that DllaGPT achieves an average accuracy of 0.85 and a Backward Transfer (BWT) score of -0.09 across the four domains, showcasing its high accuracy and robust lifelong learning capabilities. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. The English Translation of the Quran Tafsir (ETQT) is essential to understanding and interpreting Allah's words. Clustering is a common text mining technique for eliciting meaningful knowledge from a text collection. It is commonly used when the selected datasets lack typical ground truths. To the best of our knowledge, no study has evaluated and benchmarked ETQTs to select the most comprehensive and appropriate one. The process of evaluating and benchmarking ETQTs falls under the multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) problem because of different issues, namely, multiple internal clustering validation criteria, data variation, and trade-offs between different criteria. The fuzzy decision by opinion score method (FDOSM) is one of the most recommended MCDM ranking methods in the literature to address the said issues. FDOSM has been extended under different fuzzy set (FS) environments to address issues of uncertainty and vagueness caused by expert feedback subjectivity. Although prior versions of FDOSM improved the uncertainty and vagueness issues, they remain open issues. Therefore, this paper extended FDOSM into the complex Pythagorean fuzzy decision by opinion score method (CPFDOSM) to evaluate and benchmark ETQTs. The proposed method consists of two main phases. The first phase formulates decision-matrix-based cluster algorithms and internal cluster validation criteria. The second phase (CPFDOSM development) prioritizes ETQTs and selects the optimum one. Data generation is performed on five different cluster algorithms and six internal cluster validation criteria using 16 ETQTs based on three decision-makers (DMs). Results show the following: (1) 6.25% of the individual decision-making results are identical among the three DMs, whereas 93.75% (n = 15/16) are different when I = 0.5 and I = 2. When I = 0.5. Offsets Reconstruction Method for Clock Skew Measurement Over High-Jitter Communication

Measuring clock skew of devices over a network fully relies on the offsets, the differences between sending and receiving times. Offsets that shape a thick line are the most ideal one as their slope is directly the clock skew sought. When some outliers separate from the thick line due to higher delay jitter, current advanced approaches use the lower bound or the majority of offsets to derive accurate clock skew. However, outliers in offsets that shape parallel dotted lines, reduce the availability of offsets in the lower region, and scatter widely the offsets from their majority zone. These conditions drive the current skew estimation approaches to lose their accuracy. This paper then developed a new method, which reconstructs back the outliers into their origin positions, in order to provide ideal offsets for clock skew measurement. The experimental evaluations have demonstrated that the clock skew accuracy of dotted-lines offsets tampered by outliers was improved from 2.1 to 0.9 ppm by the proposed reconstruction method. For a broader purpose, the reconstruction method has been adjusted to be implemented also on non-dotted-lines offsets. The robustness of the proposed method for this case has also been exhibited by the very ideal reconstructed offsets that shape like a thick line. © The Author(s) 2025.

TEXCEL: text encryption with elliptic curve cryptography for enhanced security

Elliptic curve cryptography has emerged as a potent tool for safeguarding data communications. This research paper addresses the problem of traditional text encryption methods relying on shared code tables between senders and receivers. This reliance not only adds complexity but also increases the risk of security breaches and requires significant communication overhead. In the present paper, we introduce TEXCEL, an innovative, efficient and authenticated text encryption scheme. TEXCEL begins with a pioneering method for crafting a customized permuted ASCII table elevating cryptographic security by leveraging elliptic curve coordinates as keys. These coordinates serve as seeds for a random number generator ensuring reproducibility. Here, the technique used to map the characters of the message to a point on elliptic curve eliminates the traditional approach of sharing a code table between sender and receiver, thus reducing communication overhead. TEXCEL undergoes a thorough security analysis, including NIST evaluation, key and plaintext sensitivity, and resilience against common attacks like known-ciphertext, known-plaintext, chosen-plaintext, and chosen-ciphertext. To test and validate the proposed methodology, experimental results present that TEXCEL demonstrates plaintext sensitivity exceeding 98%, high randomness, and a robust key space. Additionally, encryption and decryption of a 5000-character text takes only 0.027 s and 0.007 s respectively, with a cipher size of 9.8 KB, ensuring both security and efficiency. Furthermore, as compared with the existing schemes, TEXCEL shows enhanced resilience against modern cryptanalysis and outperforms existing schemes with a 53.50% improvement in encryption time, 94.86% in decryption time, 53.31% in cipher data size and better plaintext sensitivity. The highly volatile nature of cryptocurrencies, particularly Bitcoin, exhibits extreme price volatility, making accurate price prediction a challenging task for traditional forecasting models. This paper proposes an enhanced ARIMA model, called ARIMA_T, which incorporates time-reversed data and optimizes model selection using the Backward Validated information Criterion (BVIC). The ARIMA_T model aims to improve forecasting accuracy by capturing both linear and non-linear patterns in the data that standard ARIMA models often overlook. We apply this model to predict Bitcoin prices over short and medium-term horizons, specifically 1-day, 7-days, and 30-days ahead predictions. The dataset spans from April 2013 to February 2024. Experimental results demonstrate that ARIMA_T consistently outperforms the traditional ARIMA model across all forecast horizons, as evidenced by lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values. The ARIMA_T model provides more accurate and robust predictions, particularly for short-term forecasting, making it a valuable tool for navigating the volatile cryptocurrency market. This study also discusses the limitations of both models in handling longer-term predictions and suggests future work in integrating ARIMA_T with machine learning techniques for further improvements. © 2025 IEEE.

We present a verifier of quantum programs called AutoQ 2.0. Quantum programs extend quantum circuits (the domain of AutoQ 1.0) by classical control flow constructs, which enable users to describe advanced quantum algorithms in a formal and precise manner. The extension is highly non-trivial, as we needed to tackle both theoretical challenges (such as the treatment of measurement, the normalization problem, and lifting techniques for verification of classical programs with loops to the quantum world), and engineering issues (such as extending the input format with a support for specifying loop invariants). We have successfully used AutoQ 2.0 to verify two types of advanced quantum programs that cannot be expressed using only quantum circuits: the repeat-until-success (RUS) algorithm and the weak-measurement-based version of Grover’s search algorithm. AutoQ 2.0 can efficiently verify all our benchmarks: all RUS algorithms were verified instantly and, for the weak-measurement-based version of Grover’s search, we were able to handle the case of 100 qubits in ∼20 minutes. © The Author(s) 2025.

This paper presents the influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness, aspect ratio and damaged core on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite sandwich beams resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The distributions of CNTs are considered functionally graded (FG) or uniform along the thickness of upper and bottom layers of the sandwich beam and their mechanical properties are estimated by an extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes’ effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. A damage model is introduced to provide an analytical description of an irreversible rheological process that causes the decay of the mechanical properties, in terms of engineering constants. An isotropic damage is considered for the core of the sandwich beams. The equations of motion are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory and employing Hamilton’s principle. The problem is modeled using a semi-analytical approach composed of generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) and series solution adopted to solve the equations of motion. Detailed parametric studies are carried out to investigate the mechanical behavior of these multi-layered structures depending on the damage features, through-the-thickness distribution and boundary conditions. Also, the effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness, CNT aspect ratio, Winkler foundation modulus, shear elastic foundation modulus and geometrical conditions on the vibrational behavior of the sandwich structure are studied. © 2025 Techno-Press, Ltd.

This research examines the effectiveness of nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatment in mitigating Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation (LeTID) in Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact (PERC) solar cells, employing a 30-kW photovoltaic (PV) system for evaluation. As a photosensitive device, solar cells are susceptible to damage from laser irradiation, leading to reduced photoelectric conversion efficiency, structural damage, and functional loss. To minimize this loss, nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatments were applied, followed by the analysis of LeTID effects on untreated, Nafion-treated, and combined nitrogen-annealed and Nafion-treated PERC cells. Untreated cells showed an 8 % fall in open-circuit voltage (Voc) and a 7 % fill factor (FF) loss. The combined treatment (Combination of Nitrogen & Nafion Treatment) improved stability, reducing losses to 6 % in Voc and 5 % in FF. The Nafion treatment yielded the best results, limiting deterioration to 4 % in Voc and 3 % in FF. PVsyst simulations, incorporating real-world data, confirmed enhanced stability and efficiency, aiding in optimizing PV system design and maintenance. © 2025 Korean Physical Society
