The increasing density of mobile networks has made the identification of optimal new coverage sites a critical challenge for mobile operators. Traditional methods relying on manual inspections and council plans are labour-intensive and insufficient. This study addresses this issue by leveraging data science and machine learning techniques to predict the suitability of new mobile cell sites. Utilizing data from Radio Spectrum Management New Zealand and Stats New Zealand, the study employs Random Forest as Machine learning model. Key factors considered include existing operator information and population density. The methodology integrates data cleaning, feature engineering, and model training, with validation performed using Power BI. Results demonstrate an accuracy of 84.62% for the Random Forest model, highlighting the importance of geographical location and population density in site suitability predictions. This approach will streamline the site selection process and enhance service quality, positioning operators as leaders in underserved areas.

The Mobile crowdsourcing network (MCN) leverages collaborative intelligence to solve complex tasks through group cooperation. It comprises three main components: the end-user, the service provider, and the mobile user. The end-user requests crowd-sensing and computing services from the service provider, who handles task decomposition, distribution, re-composition, and recommendation. Mobile users perform the crowd sensing and computing tasks. Despite its benefits, MCN faces significant security and privacy challenges. Communications between the service provider and the end-user involve sensitive data, and mobile users and service providers communicate over open channels, making them vulnerable to security threats. To address these concerns, we propose a secure authentication framework for MCN, called SAF-MCN. This framework combines the lightweight cryptographic primitive ' ASCON' with elliptic curve cryptography. SAF-MCN allows the service provider to authenticate mobile users before they join the MCN. Once authenticated, a secure channel is established for encrypted communication over the public Internet. The security of SAFMCN is validated using both formal and informal methods, demonstrating its resilience against potential attacks. The use of Scyther further ensures the security of SAF-MCN. Comparative analysis shows that SAF-MCN is superior in terms of security features, computational efficiency, and communication cost. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Among various technologies being applied for indoor localization, WiFi has become a common source of information to determine the pedestrian’s position due to the widespread of WiFi access points in indoor environments. However, the fluctuation of the WiFi signals makes it difficult to achieve a good localization result. In this paper, to handle this problem, the valued tolerance rough set and decision rules method (VTRS-DR), which is firstly registered to WiFi fingerprinting-based localization, will be implemented and evaluated in big and complicated environments using two public datasets. The first one was conducted by a subject using a smartphone at a multi-floor library for several months. Furthermore, to evaluate the localization accuracy when WiFi data was collected from different pedestrians as well as different smartphones, a crowdsourced WiFi fingerprinting dataset was utilized. From the deep analyses of localization results, the VTRS-DR method shows high accuracy and high robustness when testing in different environments with a mean error of 3.84 m, which is 27.87% lower than other compared methods. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In the proposed paper, simulating the Finite State Markov Chain (FSMC) to be implemented as Rayleigh Block-fading channel. Indeed, FSMC is regarded as a practical fading channel because of its random choice for future transmission probability. Accordingly, this paper introduces the FSMC technology with the theoretical limits and equations; moreover, the uplink and downlink Rayleigh Block-fading channel scenarios are also investigated and supported by the simulation set-up. The results for the Rayleigh fading channel for the Long-Term Evaluation-Advanced network were obtained as an example of the channel's attitude. The findings demonstrate that FSMC provides such reliable results and is suitable for use as a practical fading channel, particularly in terms of burst error behavior.

The Internet of Things (IoT) devices have been deployed to realize smart environments such as smart cities, smart homes, smart health and smart grids. In these domains, the IoT devices collect and forward high volumes of sensitive and private data. It is therefore important that security schemes be developed to protect the exchanged data. In this regard, a myriad of authentication protocols have been developed over the recent past. However, these schemes deploy cryptographic primitives that result in extremely high communication, storage and computation complexities. In addition, some of these protocols still have numerous security and privacy issues that render them unsuitable for deployment in an IoT environment. For instance, untraceability, anonymity, key escrow problems and attack vectors such as de-synchronization and forgery attacks are frequently ignored. In this paper, a transient session key derivation protocol is developed to address some of these security and efficiency challenges. The security analysis executed shows that this protocol offers untraceability, device anonymity and perfect forward key secrecy. In addition, it is robust against de-synchronization, known secret key leakage, eavesdropping and forgery attacks. In terms of operational efficiency, this protocol incurs the lowest computation and communication complexities. © 2023, ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

Various feature selection strategies such as brute-force search, randomized and sequential search have been suggested to remove the redundant features, among which, sequential search strategy is computationally efficient. In this paper, an efficient sequential feature selection method based on greedy search and gain ratio criterion is proposed to select the most informative features from a feature set. The proposed method called greedy overall-relevancy (GOR) which overcomes the blemishes of forward and backward sequential search as commonplace greedy methods. To examine the goodness of selected features, nearest neighbor (NN), Naïve Bayes and edited KNN classifiers were employed. Ten well-known datasets from the standard UCI repository data sets are used to assess the performance of the proposed algorithm in comparison with other state-of-the-art sequential methods. Applying the proposed feature selection and the modified NN to the UCI datasets enhanced the classification accuracy remarkably compare to the other employed methods.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Accurate and early detection of PD is crucial for effective management and treatment. A study proposes a High-Dimensional Feature-Based Support Vector Regression (HDFSVR) method for enhancing the accuracy of PD detection. This method integrates advanced normalization and feature selection techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy. Sensitivity analysis shows a prediction accuracy of 83%, while precision analysis indicates an accuracy of 87%. Recall analysis further highlights the method's efficacy with a prediction accuracy of 92.78%. The HDFSVR method achieves an accuracy of 94.78%, outperforming contemporary approaches such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Adaptive Genetic Weighted Optimizer (AGWO). It represents a substantial advancement in PD diagnostics, addressing the limitations of traditional support vector machines in handling high-dimensional data. The method can be seamlessly adopted in clinical settings, enhancing early and accurate detection of Parkinson's disease. © 2024 IEEE.

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems have seen significant advancements in recent years, driven by deep learning and large-scale pre-training methods. However, achieving high accuracy across multiple accents remains a challenging task, especially for languages with rich phonetic diversity like Vietnamese. The Vietnamese language encompasses a wide range of regional accents, each with unique phonetic characteristics that can hinder the performance of conventional ASR. To address this issue, we present a Vietnamese language processing model called Wav2Vn as a novel approach to scalable unsupervised pretraining and adaptation for ASR targeting multiple Vietnamese accents. Our method leverages the power of the Mixture of Experts (MoE) to effectively handle the diverse phonetic variations across different Vietnamese accents. Our results demonstrate a significant performance improvement in terms of word error rate (WER) and robustness to accent variability compared to the current state-of-the-art PhoWhisper.

Pattern Transformation of Low-Profile Multi-Mode Antenna for A Phased Array with Simultaneous Wide-Angle Scanning and High-Gain Properties

In this article, a novel multi-mode design approach for pattern transformation of low-profile multi-mode microstrip patch antenna (MPA) has been proposed and developed, aiming to simultaneously achieve the wide-angle scanning and high-gain properties for a phased array. Herein, the TM00, TM01, TM20, and TM21 modes of the MPA are employed. Firstly, the working principle about how to move these four modes closely to each other in resonant frequency is deeply studied, the results prove that the shorting pins and slots could be loaded on the radiator for frequency reallocation of these four modes. Secondly, the radiation pattern transformation of the MPA at TM00, TM20, and TM21 modes are deeply investigated, which demonstrates that the non-broadside beam of its TM21 mode could be reshaped into the broadside one, and the omnidirectional pattern of its TM00 mode could be reshaped into the dual beam at yoz-plane. Most importantly, the radiation pattern of its TM20 mode could be rotated into the dual-beam with co-polarized Eθ component at yoz-plane. With these arrangements, the broadside-beam and dual-beam could be excited under same frequency at different modes. Thirdly, based on these two beams with different phases at two ports, the antenna element has successfully gained the improved beam scanning and gain performance simultaneously. Fourthly, the proposed multi-mode array is arranged in a triangular grid. By controlling the phase difference between these ports, the antenna could achieve both wide-beam scanning and high gain.
