Digital disruption creates a lot of new entrepreneurship opportunities, affecting existing businesses at a very fast pace. Therefore using traditional classroom method to teach entrepreneurship to only business schools students no longer applicable. Students in the 21st century should be trained via project-based learning by leveraging the strength of the members from multi-disciplines. This research proposes a model on how entrepreneurship education (EE) could be introduced into university undergraduate programs across faculties towards entrepreneurial and commercialization pathway. The model has been developed and tested within 2 years, with few hundreds of computing and information technology students, supported by other faculties, related centers and representatives from the industry. It is believed that project-based learning does not only affect students' attitudes to be more industry-relevant and stimulate entrepreneurial intention, but also creating actual start-up and commercialization opportunities. © 2019 IEEE.

Strain is extensively used to controllably tailor the electronic properties of materials. In the context of indirect band-gap semiconductors such as silicon, strain lifts the valley degeneracy of the six conduction band minima, and by extension the valley states of electrons bound to phosphorus donors. Here, single phosphorus atoms are embedded in an engineered thin layer of silicon strained to 0.8% and their wave function imaged using spatially resolved spectroscopy. A prevalence of the out of plane valleys is confirmed from the real-space images, and a combination of theoretical modelling tools is used to assess how this valley repopulation effect can yield isotropic exchange and tunnel interactions in the xy-plane relevant for atomically precise donor qubit devices. Finally, the residual presence of in-plane valleys is evidenced by a Fourier analysis of both experimental and theoretical images, and atomistic calculations highlight the importance of higher orbital excited states to obtain a precise relationship between valley population and strain. Controlling the valley degree of freedom in engineered strained epilayers provides a new competitive asset for the development of donor-based quantum technologies in silicon. Entanglement potentials are popular measures of the nonclassicality of single-mode optical fields. These potentials are defined by the amount of entanglement (measured by, e.g., the negativity or concurrence) of the two-mode field generated by mixing a given single-mode field with the vacuum on a balanced beam splitter. We generalize this concept to define the potentials for Bell nonlocality and quantum steering in specific measurement scenarios, in order to quantify single-mode nonclassicality in a more refined way. Thus, we can study the hierarchy of three types of potentials in close analogy to the well-known hierarchy of the corresponding two-mode quantum correlations. For clarity of our presentation, we focus on the analysis of the nonclassicality potentials for arbitrary vacuum-one-photon superpositions (VOPSs), corresponding to a photon-number qubit. We discuss experimentally feasible implementations for the generation of single-mode VOPS states, their mixing with the vacuum on a balanced beam splitter, and their two-mode Wigner-function reconstruction using homodyne tomography to determine the potentials. We analyze the effects of imperfections, including phase damping and unbalanced beam splitting on the quality of the reconstructed two-mode states and nonclassicality potentials. Although we focus on the analysis of VOPS states, single-mode potentials can also be applied to study the nonclassicality of qudits or continuous-variable systems. © 2023, CC BY.

Fast consensus clustering in complex networks

Algorithms for community detection are usually stochastic, leading to different partitions for different choices of random seeds. Consensus clustering has proven to be an effective technique to derive more stable and accurate partitions than the ones obtained by the direct application of the algorithm. However, the procedure requires the calculation of the consensus matrix, which can be quite dense if (some of) the clusters of the input partitions are large. Consequently, the complexity can get dangerously close to quadratic, which makes the technique inapplicable on large graphs. Here, we present a fast variant of consensus clustering, which calculates the consensus matrix only on the links of the original graph and on a comparable number of additional node pairs, suitably chosen. This brings the complexity down to linear, while the performance remains comparable as the full technique. Therefore, our fast consensus clustering procedure can be applied on networks with millions of nodes and links.

This paper proposes an unsupervised algorithm for learning a finite mixture model of the exponential family approximation to the Dirichlet Compound Multinomial (EDCM). An important part of the mixture modeling problem is determining the number of components that best describes the data. In this work, we extend the Minimum Message Length (MML) principle to determine the number of topics (clusters) in case of text modeling using a mixture of EDCMs. Parameters estimation is based on the previously proposed deterministic annealing expectation-maximization approach. The proposed method is validated using several document collections. A comparison with results obtained for other selection criteria is provided. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.

Mobile computing devices and social networks have become very popular for contact away from home or in the office. Though meant for increased productivity in the workplace, the benefits are not without risks. Human resources and systems are recognized as essential to society and business operations. Challenges to information security professionals require, first of all, convincing management about the problem and then considering awareness programs for the workforce to inculcate information security as a highly valued attribute. Such awareness raising could be developed to transform attitudinal changes to follow risk management procedures for regular use with the use of mobile devices. Rules and restrictions take time to materialize. Self-control from an individual made aware of the risks takes no time. Now, with the Internet of Things (IoT) it is possible for various devices to hover around mobile users and make use of control features in buildings and automobiles as well. Personalised learning enables instructions to be tailored specific to students learning needs, while making sure learning outcomes are attained. Instructors require information that could facilitate them in adapting their pedagogy design so the learning delivery could be optimized. However, existing solutions are limited to descriptive analytic and intervention facilitation is confined to students at risk prediction based on their course engagement frequency. Tools to predict final grade is available but very scarce. Besides, realtime monitoring of reaction to learning events are not available. Therefore, this paper proposes a solution that integrates Internet of Things, learning analytic and chatbot to fill the said gaps. The paper also presents the experience of pilot developments towards the current version of solution.

Sign Language Recognition is a breakthrough for communication among deaf-mute society and has been a critical research topic for years. Although some of the previous studies have successfully recognized sign language, it requires many costly instruments including sensors, devices, and high-end processing power. However, such drawbacks can be easily overcome by employing artificial intelligence-based techniques. Since, in this modern era of advanced mobile technology, using a camera to take video or images is much easier, this study demonstrates a cost-effective technique to detect American Sign Language (ASL) using an image dataset. Here, "Finger Spelling, A" dataset has been used, with 24 letters (except j and z as they contain motion). The main reason for using this dataset is that these images have a complex background with different environments and scene colors. Two layers of image processing have been used: in the first layer, images are processed as a whole for training, and in the second layer, the hand landmarks are extracted. A multi-headed convolutional neural network (CNN) model has been proposed and tested with 30% of the dataset to train these two layers. To avoid the overfitting problem, data augmentation and dynamic learning rate reduction have been used. With the proposed model, 98.981% test accuracy has been achieved. It is expected that this study may help to develop an efficient human-machine communication system for a deaf-mute society.

We present iterative back-translation, a method for generating increasingly better synthetic parallel data from monolingual data to train neural machine translation systems. Our proposed method is very simple yet effective and highly applicable in practice. We demonstrate improvements in neural machine translation quality in both high and low resourced scenarios, including the best reported BLEU scores for the WMT 2017 German↔English tasks. © 2018 Association for Computational Linguistics

In this paper, a flexible tri-band reflective metasurface, the metapocket, is presented to work with smartphone antennas to enhance its realized gain, and radiation efficiency and reduce its Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). Considering the limitation of the on-body scenario, the metasurface unit cell number is considered as a variable, and an artificial intelligence-driven method (the self-adaptive Bayesian neural network surrogate-model-assisted differential evolution for antenna optimization (SB-SADEA)) is applied to achieve the optimal performance. The designed reflection phase operates at 2.33-2.44 GHz (WIFI band), 3.39-3.56 GHz (5G N77 band) and 5.05-5.39 GHz (WLAN band). Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate is utilized for good flexibility and biocompatibility. A state-of-the-art 5G smartphone (VIVO IQOO) is employed in both simulation and measurement. In free space, realized gain enhancement by 4.23, 4.67, 5.8 dB are achieved, radiation efficiency enhancement by 16.6%, 11.5%, 12.1% are achieved, respectively. Furthermore, calculated SAR reduction by 90.2%, 88.9%, 89.9% are achieved. All results verify that the proposed tri-band metapocket is of significant value to smartphone antenna performance in an on-body scenario. © 2002-2011 IEEE.
