Phishing attacks are a threat that continuously emphasizes the need for effective detection methods. This paper presents a machine learning detection method that employs a random forest classifier, which is an adaptable algorithm that can handle a variety of feature sets. The dataset used in this work offers a range of features extracted from various URLs, addressing elements such as URL length, domain structure, and keyword presence. We deployed a computational approach for feature engineering. The random forest classifier is employed for both prediction and to assess feature importance, guiding an automated feature selection process. By doing this, the model’s performance is optimized, and the most important features are utilized. The findings of this study show the effectiveness of our method with an impressive accuracy of 98.45% on a test set. The classifier exhibits balanced precision and recall for both phishing and legitimate instances. Moreover, the automated feature selection process improves the interpretation of the model, emphasizing key indicators of phishing attacks. The proposed approach not only produces outstanding outcomes but also offers a flexible and scalable approach to address the dynamically evolving threat landscape of phishing attempts. ©2024 IEEE.

We study the optimal scheduling of graph states in measurement-based quantum computation, establishing an equivalence between measurement schedules and path decompositions of graphs. We define the spatial cost of a measurement schedule based on the number of simultaneously active qubits and prove that an optimal measurement schedule corresponds to a path decomposition of minimal width. Our analysis shows that approximating the spatial cost of a graph is NP-hard, while for graphs with bounded spatial cost, we establish an efficient algorithm for computing an optimal measurement schedule.

Parkinson's disease (PD) profoundly impacts millions in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the importance of early detection for better patient outcomes. We introduce 'NeuraTrace PD,' an innovative application for early PD screening, combining brain MRI, hand-drawn image analysis, facial expression assessment, and voice analysis. For brain MRI analysis, we employed a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN), achieving an impressive accuracy of 91% and identifying distinct graph connectivity patterns using graph theory. We also use a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to reach 90% accuracy in analyzing hand-drawn images, while optimizing image resolution for efficiency and information retention. Facial expression analysis is a vital component, leveraging CNN and Constrained Local Models (CLM) to accurately extract Facial Action Units (FAUs), which contribute to a remarkable 95% accuracy using the XGBoost machine learning model. We introduce a Machine Learning (ML) algorithm and advanced signal processing to enhance voice feature analysis, offering a thorough understanding and classification of PD patients. It reaches 99% accuracy. In summary, our approach holds significant promise for advancing early PD diagnosis, ultimately improving the quality of life for those affected by this challenging condition. © 2023 IEEE.

One of the highly focused areas in the medical science community is segmenting tumors from brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The diagnosis of malignant tumors at an early stage is necessary to provide treatment for patients. The patient’s prognosis will improve if it is detected early. Medical experts use a manual method of segmentation when making a diagnosis of brain tumors. This study proposes a new approach to simplify and automate this process. In recent research, multi-level segmentation has been widely used in medical image analysis, and the effectiveness and precision of the segmentation method are directly tied to the number of segments used. However, choosing the appropriate number of segments is often left up to the user and is challenging for many segmentation algorithms. The proposed method is a modified version of the 3D Histogram-based segmentation method, which can automatically determine an appropriate number of segments. The general algorithm contains three main steps: The first step is to use a Gaussian filter to smooth the 3D RGB histogram of an image. This eliminates unreliable and non-dominating histogram peaks that are too close together. Next, a multimodal particle swarm optimization method identifies the histogram’s peaks. In the end, pixels are placed in the cluster that best fits their characteristics based on the non-Euclidean distance. The proposed algorithm has been applied to a Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) and brain MRI Images for brain Tumor detection dataset. The results of the proposed method are compared with those of three clustering methods: FCM, FCM_FWCW, and FCM_FW. In the comparative analysis of the three algorithms across various MRI slices. Our algorithm consistently demonstrates superior performance. It achieves the top mean rank in all three metrics, indicating its robustness and effectiveness in clustering. The quality of the air around us is a major concern nowadays, a lot of health issues are associated with air pollution. This article presents an application of mobile and cloud technologies for real-time air quality monitoring. An Android mobile application was developed for monitoring the values of pollutants in the air from an air quality station. The station was designed to continuously acquire values from different sensors and to send them to databases. The mobile application provides real-time updates, notifications and historical values for the air parameters monitored. © 2023 IEEE.

Online misinformation poses a significant challenge due to its rapid spread and limited supervision. To address this issue, automated rumour detection techniques are essential for countering the negative impact of false information. Previous research primarily focussed on extracting text features, which proved time-consuming and less effective. In this study, we contribute substantially to two domains: rumour detection on Twitter and the evaluation of text embeddings. We thoroughly analyse rumour detection models and compare the quality of text embeddings generated by various fine-tuned BERT-based models. Our findings indicate that our proposed models outperform existing techniques. Notably, when we test these models on combined datasets, we observe significant performance improvements with larger training and testing data sizes. We conclude that carefully considering the dataset, data splitting, and classification techniques is crucial for evaluating solution performance. Additionally, we find that differences in the quality of text embeddings between RoBERTa, BERT, and DistilBERT are insignificant. This challenges existing assumptions and highlights the need for future research to explore these nuances further. © The Author(s) 2025.

In the era of Big Data, information can be generated, extracted, and utilized in diverse ways. In business, information about business capabilities can be a crucial aspect in understanding the strengths and competencies of organizations. This information can empower stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding partnerships, acquisitions, and market positioning. Additionally, by comparing capabilities across companies and industries, organizations can identify their competitive advantages, industry trends, potential disruptions, and effective resource allocations, leading to improved strategies and better market opportunities. Traditional methods for extracting business capabilities primarily rely on keyword matching or rule-based techniques, which often fail to capture the complex relationships between words in a sentence. This paper presents a comprehensive study on extracting business capabilities using dependency parsing techniques in natural language processing (NLP) to overcome limitations of the traditional methods and improve the accuracy of business capability extraction. Dependency parsing utilizes pre-trained language models to analyze the grammatical structure of sentences, identifying the dependencies between words and capturing their relationships. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through experiments conducted on more than 40K real-world company descriptions crawled from Wikipedia. © 2023 IEEE.

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is widely utilized by organizations to facilitate process improvement. Among its 22 process areas, this paper focuses on the Organizational Process Performance (OPP) area, which assesses the effectiveness of a process. Specifically, this study examines one goal (establishing performance baselines and models) and two practices (establishing quality and process performance objectives and selecting processes within OPP. To measure these practices, the Goal Questions Metrics (GQM) approach is employed. Data was collected using a questionnaire, and the defined measures are validated quantitatively. 250 responses were used for analysis. The results obtained indicate that implementing the defined measures in companies would be beneficial for achieving high-quality processes in OPP and advancing the maturity level of CMMI. © 2023 IEEE.

Edge computing is a new technology that enables 6G development by bringing cloud capabilities closer to end users to overcome traditional cloud flaws such as high latency and a lack of security. Few studies identify recent advances, challenges, and opportunities in 6G edge computing. As a result, this paper presents a review to identify recent advances in edge computing in 6G. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities of such new trends in the computing landscape. The paper identifies challenges (security and privacy, offloading and task division, bandwidth, service management, advanced communication, general-purpose computing on edge nodes, quantum computing and edge computing, and IoT heterogeneous platforms) as well as opportunities (academic-industry collaborations, algorithms and libraries that are lightweight and virtualization and micro-operating systems). Finally, some conclusions have been drawn after identifying current research directions. © 2022 IEEE.
