Leveraging Edge Intelligence for Solar Energy Management in Smart Grids

The rapid advancement of renewable energy, particularly solar power, has been significantly supported by the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, enabling optimized energy management in smart grid systems. However, accurate long-term solar energy forecasting remains a critical challenge, especially exploiting specific characteristics of data locality at the edge. This paper introduces an edge intelligence-driven hybrid deep learning model that integrates Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN) and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) for precise solar energy prediction. The proposed model leveraged TCN’s capability to capture long-range temporal dependencies and GRU’s efficiency in sequential data processing. To optimize performance for edge computing environments, we employed Neural Architecture Search, model pruning, and quantization techniques, reducing both model size and complexity. The model has been validated using two benchmark datasets (Alibaba Competition and GEFCom), achieving an impressive mean squared error of 0.0051 on long-term forecasts. The results demonstrate that our approach ensures high forecasting accuracy while maintaining computational efficiency, making it well-suited for real-time, IoT-enabled solar energy applications in smart grids. © 2013 IEEE.

In general, parallel applications require lots of computer power and grid computing. Efficient Resource Discovery (RD) algorithms determine grid resource allocation and execution time. To improve the resource distribution and reduce grid node communication costs, this study introduces hierarchical, weighted RD (WRD). A behavioral modeling technique checks the algorithm’s accuracy and efficacy. For complete analysis and simulation, StarUML implements a WRD algorithm behavioral model. The NuSMV model checker evaluates reachability and deadlock-free RD. The WRD algorithm is assessed using key performance metrics. To evaluate resource-finding efficiency, each request’s inspected nodes are counted. The number of re-discovery operations shows the algorithm’s resource flexibility. Algorithms that find free resources with high bandwidth links are also evaluated to optimize grid resource allocation. Resource information tables could improve resource location. Resource information is stored in a table to help the algorithm allocate resources. This research seeks to develop grid computing by solving RD problems. The hierarchical architecture and weighted resource selection of the WRD algorithm improve resource inspection, flexibility, and high-bandwidth RD. Behavioral modeling and verification show the algorithm’s accuracy and grid suitability. WRD and resource information tables boost grid computing RD efficiency and efficacy. This research optimizes grid performance and resource allocation.

Internet of Things, edge computing devices, the widespread use of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, and the extensive adoption of cloud computing pose significant challenges to maintaining fault tolerance in distributed systems. As the volume and complexity of systems continue to grow, the probability of system failures also grows, leading to downtime and poor performance. Fault tolerance is pivotal in modern computing systems by preventing downtime and service disruptions, even during failures. However, adopting fault tolerance comes with additional resource consumption, such as memory, CPU, disk, and network bandwidth usage, impacting system performance. Balancing fault tolerance with system performance is crucial to optimize resource utilization while minimizing the costs associated with detecting and recovering from faults. This paper introduces a node-to-node fault tolerance coordination mechanism for distributed systems to facilitate the tradeoff between fault tolerance and the cost of performance penalties and resource consumption. The proposed mechanism is preliminarily implemented on HDFS cluster. Our proposal enables opportunities to minimize the cost of the fault tolerance impact on performance and resource usage compared to the existing fault tolerance coordination mechanism. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed systems based on the Internet allow resources widely dispersed throughout the network to be utilized cooperatively and shared. This allows the end-user to obtain massive computational power to perform a computationally intensive task. This is where the essential function of resource finding comes into play. Even though different procedures have been presented to identify multi-attribute resources, these processes have been plagued by many problems, including significant overhead and inefficiency as the number of resources increases. Distributed Quadtree Overlay is the innovative technology presented in this academic study. With DOTO, distance-aware querying is used. Moreover, since DOTO is constructed via the local network, it does not need any communication. As a result of the trials, the Distributed Quadtree Overlay performed better than the Chord. According to the findings, Distributed Quadtree Overlay is superior to Chord in terms of communication time since it needs fewer hopes and messages, uses less memory, and produces better (shortened) communication times.

LoRa technology contributes to green energy by enabling efficient,long-range communication for the Internet of Things(IoT).This paper addresses the challenges related to coverage range in outdoor monitoring systems utilizing LoRa,where the network performance is affected by the density of gateways(GWs)and end devices(EDs),as well as environmental *** mitigate interference,data throughput losses,and high-power consumption,the proposed spreading factor(SF)and hybrid(data rate|SF)models dynamically adjust the transmission *** orchestration of concurrent data modifications within the network server(NS)is crucial for uninterrupted communication between GWs and EDs,especially in monitoring electric vehicle(EV)stations to reduce traffic congestion and *** K-means and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise(DBSCAN)algorithms optimizes ED allocation,averts data congestion,and improves the signal-tointerference noise ratio(SINR).These methods ensure seamless information reception by meticulously allocated EDs across various GW *** estimate the free-space losses(FSL),a log-distance path loss model(log-PL)is *** various bandwidths(BWs),bidirectional communications,and duty cycles(DCs)helps to prevent saturation,thus prolonging the operational lifespan of *** findings reveal a notable packet rejection rate(PRR)of 0%for the DBSCAN(hybrid model).In contrast,the K-means exhibits a PRR ranging from 5%(hybrid model)to 35.29%(SF model)for the ten GWs ***,the network saturation is reduced to 10.185%and 9.503%,respectively,highlighting an improvement in the average efficiency of slotted ALOHA(91.1%)and pure ALOHA(90.7%).These enhancements increase the lifespan of EDs to 15,465.27 days.

Multi-objective optimization is a branch of computation to solve mathematical optimization problems when conflicting multiple objective functions must be simultaneously optimized. Many population-based algorithms, such as NSGA-II are used to find an optimal Pareto set of solutions in a short time. However, previous research works showed the performance of classic NSGA-II is degraded when solving problems with many objectives (M ≥ 5). In this work, we aim to take advantage of center-based sampling scheme to increase the exploration and exploitation capability of NSGA-II algorithm. This sampling strategy has demonstrated promising results on several single-objective evolutionary algorithms such as GA, DE, and PSO. Recently, a novel clustering center-based strategy has been proposed, which motivated us to utilize center-based sampling scheme in NSGA-II to solve multi-objective optimization problems. The outcomes confirm that the proposed clustering center-based NSGA-II is able to effectively solve CEC-2017 multi-objective benchmark problems with 2, 3, 5, 10, and 15 objectives. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, design and modeling of an all-optical 2×1 multiplexer based on 2D photonic crystals and artificial neural networks (ANNs) are presented. The proposed structure aims to maximize the difference between the output powers in logical states, which is critical for enhancing the system ability to distinguish between these states. In this study, an ANN model is employed to accurately predict the normalized output power of the designed photonic crystal multiplexer, providing a time-efficient alternative to conventional simulation methods for analyzing multiplexer behavior across various logical states. The results demonstrate significant improvements in signal separation and overall performance compared to previous works. Additionally, a detailed comparison of the normalized output power for different logic states is provided, highlighting the advantages of the proposed design. © 2025, Advanced Electromagnetics. With the rising prevalence of smart homes, there's an increasing demand for comprehensive automation solutions to mitigate fire risks, especially when homeowners are absent or in homes with elderly residents. This study focuses on enhancing flame detection techniques, particularly for smaller, hard-to-detect fire sources. A customized Yolov5 neural network was developed to improve detection precision. This enhancement was facilitated using a dataset of over 2,000 images from lab camera observations and online platforms. These images were then manually labeled and clustered for anchor dimensions using the K-means++ algorithm. The CIOU and diou - nms techniques were integrated to optimize the network's performance. Upon training, the refined model was tested on the Jet Nano, revealing its high efficacy in flame detection. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, Digital Twin (DT) has gained significant interestfrom academia and industry due to the advanced in information technology,communication systems, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing (CC),and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The main concept of the DT isto provide a comprehensive tangible, and operational explanation of anyelement, asset, or system. However, it is an extremely dynamic taxonomydeveloping in complexity during the life cycle that produces a massive amountof engendered data and information. Likewise, with the development of AI,digital twins can be redefined and could be a crucial approach to aid theInternet of Things (IoT)-based DT applications for transferring the data andvalue onto the Internet with better decision-making. Therefore, this paperintroduces an efficient DT-based fault diagnosis model based on machinelearning (ML) tools. In this framework, the DT model of the machine isconstructed by creating the simulation model. In the proposed framework,the Genetic algorithm (GA) is used for the optimization task to improvethe classification accuracy. Furthermore, we evaluate the proposed faultdiagnosis framework using performance metrics such as precision, accuracy,F-measure, and recall. The proposed framework is comprehensively examinedusing the triplex pump fault diagnosis. The experimental results demonstratedthat the hybrid GA-ML method gives outstanding results compared to MLmethods like LogisticRegression (LR), Na飗e Bayes (NB), and SupportVectorMachine (SVM). The suggested framework achieves the highest accuracyof 95% for the employed hybrid GA-SVM. The proposed framework willeffectively help industrial operators make an appropriate decision concerningthe fault analysis for IIoT applications in the context of Industry 4.0.
