The most scientific papers dealing with handwriting recognition systems make statements relating to recognition performance based on a forced-recognition rate. This rate describes the ratio between the number of the correct recognized samples and the number of all possible samples. This paper proposes a new technique to improve the previous research work in order to have a better result. As part of the preprocessing phase the image file is checked for skewing. If the image is skewed, it is corrected by a simple rotation technique in the appropriate direction. Character fragmentation process is done based on the existing technique. The improvement of feature extraction process is made by detecting details of glyph and used as an input for the classification process of ANN (Artificial Neural Network) to develop a full OCR system. Result indicated that some versions, even upon first using them, were at least as good as last methods of recognition.

Traditional access control solutions suffer from difficulties in access rights authorization and usage policy enforcement, especially in highly distributed environments. The layered nature of common digital content should also be exploited to efficiently provide the user with choices over digital content layers. This paper presents a layered access control architecture L-UCON based on usage control model UCON and trusted computing. We are motivated to design LUCON as a general access solution by binding policies to usage-controlled digital content. Moreover, LUCON is a negotiable solution caring about both the user's and the owner's benefits. Test results show that performance of L-UCON is acceptable. © 2009 IEEE.

The performance of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is tightly coupled with the geometric environment in which sensors are deployed. In a practical environment, bottleneck regions, for example bridges, may exist due to the existence of physical obstacles or energy depletion. In this paper, we propose a Load-balancing Based Optimal Routing Protocol (LORP). By finding the boundaries of holes in a sensor network with bottlenecks, LORP first identifies the bridges in the sensor field using our MACB algorithm. A centralized routing algorithm, "balance-first" routing is then employed to prolong the lifetime of a WSN with bottlenecks. Theoretical analysis prove that LORP can improve the load distribution among different bridges, increase the lifetime of a WSN, and enhance the quality of network services. This conclusion is reinforced in our simulation results. © 2009 IEEE.

Publisher identifier scheme for printed documents using neural networks

This study investigates means used to extract embedded specifications of printing layout in a document when handled as an image rather than to recognize its characters and word constituents. These specifications are manifested by the most significant attributes frequently found in page printouts like advertisements, conference proceedings and magazines. The commonly used tools for printing document are word processors, provided by different software packages along with operating systems for PCS, like MS Windows and Mackintosh. Most of the supported packages in addition to Win Word specify the significant attributes of document formats to fall into font and paragraph design. Font design includes type, size and style characteristics. Moreover, line spacing and inter-character gaps provide another important attributes of paragraph specifications. These attributes were extracted, analyzed and exploited in this study with the aim of constructing the proposed publisher identification system. A three stage software scheme is proposed that consists of paragraph layout and font layout detection algorithms based on statistical measures followed by feed forward neural network identifier. This technique is implemented as a tool for the overall analysis and investigations. Several experiments have been conducted to validate the procedure of the designed system. The system achieved 95% successful publisher identification. This identification inaccuracy can be attributed to the poor quality of printing in addition to the effect of noise. Hence, it can be considered as acceptable performance measure for detection and identification purposes once bad quality printed samples are excluded. © 2009 Asian Network for Scientific lnformation.

The primary objective of object-oriented design metrics is to evaluateobject-oriented design quality characteristics such as traceability, complexity,testability, and maintainability in a quantitative way through establishingrelationships between object-oriented design quality characteristics, andobject-oriented design metrics such as depth of inheritance tree, the number ofchildren, and response for a class. In this paper, we propose a set of improvedobject-oriented design metrics to measure the design quality of object-orientedsystems at the inheritance level specializing on incremental and subtyp-inginheritance. The metrics serve as early quality indicators of object-orienteddesign faults such as faulty classes and components in object-oriented *** augmented the metrics from two existing metrics, namely Attribute InheritanceFactor and Method Inheritance Factor. The metrics specialize on measuring theoverall inheritance density of classes and components based on several qualityattributes such as maintainability and testability. This paper presents a new forecasting model to ensure project success. This new model is based on improvement on earned value (EV) method. This model improves earned value management system (EVMS) and forecasting time and cost for projects. These method use established consists of four variables: scheduled performance index (SPI), cost performance index (CPI), cost variance (CV), schedule variance (SV). The model has been validated by a simulation study using a progress generator a new software. This software was developed in Visual Studio 2008 - Visual Basic .NET 2008 and Microsoft Office Project 2007 and it included some basic assumptions and data were generated day by day randomly. The results show a strong relationship between response variable and above four predictors. Therefore, it can be concluded that the model could be used in a wide range of projects for EAC estimation.

Financial charting software is widely used for technical analysis of price movements in financial markets. Commercial off-the-shelf charting components are often used to build such software. However, the outputs of some charting components are difficult to be verified because the correct outputs are unknown. In many cases, charting output verification relies on subjective visual judgment and manual construction of the chart by the testers, which are prone to human errors. Hence, the charting components could be poorly tested before being integrated into software. In this paper, we perform a study on the Point and Figure charting component and propose an automatic testing technique that is built upon the notions of assertion checking and metamorphic testing to alleviate these problems. Experiments on pre-release builds of Nextwave software Point and Figure charting component show that this automatic testing technique has successfully detected real faults in the charting component tested. © 2009 IEEE.

The AAAI-10 workshop program was held on July 11-12, 2010, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop program included 13 workshops covering a wide range of topics in artificial intelligence. There were several presentations on particular formalisms for combining the levels of planning from the perspectives of classical planning, motion planning, POMDPs, search-based planning, and temporal logic-based constraints. Henry Lieberman from Massachusetts Institute of technology Media laboratory presented work developing a platform for knowledge acquisition and usage from expert users, built upon experience with eliciting information from nonexperts in a collaborative manner. The objective of the AAAI Workshop on Goal-Directed Autonomy (GDA) was to encourage discussion and novel contributions on intelligent agents that can self-select their goals. Jeremy Baxter from QinetiQ focused on user interaction, while Nick Hawes described a goal-directed reasoning framework for controlling a mobile robot.

There is a variety of approaches to use case modeling, especially regarding their textual description as their true form. Under certain circumstances, the use of each one of these approaches may be justified. A consistent application of a particular approach requires the existence of its metamodel. It appears that use case modeling notations are close enough to each other to allow for constructing a common, configurable use case modeling metamodel. Such a metamodel is proposed in this paper. It is based on the UML metamodel elements relevant to use case adapted and extended to cover different use case modeling notations with a special attention given to the elements of use case description. The configuration options of the proposed use case modeling metamodel are identified and the actual values for Jacobson's and Cockburn's notation presented and discussed. The metamodel is evaluated by a configurable use case modeling tool prototype.

Method to determine α in rough set model based on connection degree

An improvement of tolerance relation is proposed in regard to rough set model based on connection degree by which reflexivity of relation can be assured without loss of information. Then, a method to determine optimal identity degree based on relative positive region is proposed so that the identity degree can be computed in an objective method without any preliminary or additional information about data, which is consistent with the notion of objectivity in rough set theory and data mining theory. Subsequently, an algorithm is proposed, and in two examples, the global optimum identity degree is found out. Finally, in regard to optimum connection degree, the method of rules extraction for connection degree rough set model based on generalization function is presented by which the rules extracted from a decision table are enumerated.
