A novel Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) based Hidden Markov Module (HMM) for face recognition is presented in this letter. To improve the accuracy of HMM based face recognition algorithm, DWT is used to replace Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) for observation sequence ex- traction. Extensive experiments are conducted on two public databases and the results show that the proposed method can improve the accuracy significantly, especially when the face database is large and only few training images are available.

Web service composition provision which requires efficient coordination of the execution of component services is a critical issue in service-oriented computing. Nowadays, BPEL4WS, the de facto industry standard for service compositions, is predominantly deployed in a way in which all interactions and intermediate data must go through one server. This centralised management results in problems such as poor performance, impaired reliability, limited scalability, and restricted flexibility. To address these problems, this research proposes an agent-based decentralised process management framework for Web service composition. This framework allows distributed BPEL engines, each of which is represented by a software agent, to manage the execution of relevant sub-processes, and to interact with one another directly to coordinate the execution of the whole process. Such a framework naturally reflects the distributed and dynamic features of the Web services environment and subsequently offers improved coordination support for service composition provision.

Grid computing allows the utilization of vast computational resources for solving complex scientific and engineering problems. However, development tools for grid applications are not as mature as their traditional counterparts, especially in the area of debugging and testing. Debugging grid applications typically requires a programmer to address non-trivial issues such as heterogeneity, job scheduling, hierarchical resources, and security. This paper presents the design and implementation of a grid service debug architecture that is compliant with the Web Service Resource Framework standard. The debugger provides a library with a set of well-defined debug APIs.

With the proliferation of grid computing, a large number of computational resources are available for solving complex scientific and engineering problems. Nevertheless, it is non-trivial to write, deploy, and test grid applications over heterogeneous and distributed resources. Further complicating matters, programmers may need to manually manage variations in source code due to resource heterogeneity. This paper presents an implementation of an integrated grid development environment that leverages IBM's Eclipse IDE and our application development framework, Worqbench. It provides novel tools to develop and debug grid software. It regards resources as first-class objects in the IDE and allows tight integration between the test beds and the code development process. We discuss how the environment assists programmers in developing grid applications.

The research and development results of agent technology are awaited as the software solution with autonomy and social ability, which can provide the way to realize social activities on the Internet. However, the current status of the agent research is that research is for a specific application domain and is not so much generalized, and it is hard to apply the framework of the existing research to other fields. Moreover, it is thought that practical usage of agent is in immature state that there are few practical application examples and the system development methodology is not sufficient. In this research, the problem solving system by the multi-agents is first shown as an application development framework by the agents. Then, we present usage of templates of the agent model and the task model as the development support technique. And the evaluation according to an application construction experiment in the field of remote product management is discussed.

Artificial neural networks are intended to be used in emerging technologies as information processing systems because their biological equivalents seem to be tolerant to internal failures of computational elements. In this paper, we introduce a measurement which can identify significant neurons of the local cluster neural network and can be used to increase the fault tolerance of this network architecture. Furthermore, it show that this technique can control the network's complexity. Moreover, by this quality different parameter sets of the network and training techniques can be judged with respect to their fault tolerant properties.
