This paper discusses cooperative distributed planning problems using multiple agents that share a very large database. It is an important framework for planning by multiple agents with incomplete information, and for evaluating behavior strategies and negotiation manners. The specific issue involves distributed constraint-satisfying problems on databases. The problem is described as concurrent execution and repetitive execution of transactions, where each agent is deemed as a transaction that operates on a very large database. Therefore, we propose a highly efficient parallel database processing algorithm for these two basic operations.

In this article a multimedia computer-assisted learning (MCAL) system is presented. The major objective of this work was to investigate the potential of using such systems as tools for transferring instructional course information through various types of computer media as opposed to the classic CAL systems. The philosophy and techniques employed to design the system are investigated. Usage of the implemented system and its merits have been illustrated through its application to teach engineering students and technicians the theory and concepts of marine radar. System design, implementation, test, and revision phases are presented and discussed.

A multithreaded processor is a good approach to increase the performance by utilizing coarse grain parallelism. The execution of multiple threads in parallel makes a performance prediction difficult because of a complicated behavior. Thus instruction-level simulation is necessary for a performance evaluation. In practice, it is very difficult to select optimum configuration of microarchitecture through a simulation of wide variety of candidates because of a long simulation time. The paper presents an evaluation method of microarchitecture for multithreaded processors. The method consists of three steps; first, the characteristics of the application are analysed, secondly, the candidates of microarchitecture are selected in consideration of the characteristics, lastly, the selected architectures are evaluated through the instruction-level simulation using practical application program. The experimental results using computer graphics application show that the proposed evaluation method of microarchitecture are very effective in order to increase the performance of multithreaded processors.< >

It is shown that it is easy to translate a natural-language-style task instruction given by a voice into a motion-level robot program by utilizing procedures having to do with the visualization of assembly parts by a human being. This method is similar to the process by which a human being carries out an assembly task by utilizing the function and role peculiar to each assembly part as the knowledge. The concept of object-oriented programming is used as the knowledge representation form. The operational procedures of the assembly parts and other attributes are constructured according to the object-oriented model. The translation into the robot program is executed by using the message passing facility of objects.< >

th This volume presents the proceedings of the 6 IEEE International Workshop on IP Operations and Management (IPOM 2006), which was held as part of Manweek 2006 rd th in Dublin, Ireland from October 23 to 25 , 2006. In line with its reputation as one ofthe pre-eminent venues for the discussion and debate of advances of management of IP networks and services, the 2006 iteration of IPOM brought together an international audience of researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia. The overall theme of Manweek 2006 was “Autonomic Component and System Management”,with IPOM taking this to be the application of autonomic principles to the IP operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) domain. IPOM 2006 is more relevant than ever to the emerging communications infrastr- ture that is increasingly focused on “convergence” of networks and services. Although arguably over-hyped, there is a fundamental truth to this convergence story, and this is based on the fact that the TCP/IP protocol suite (IPv4 and IPv6) has become the common denominator for a plethora of such converged services. One good example in the period between IPOM 2005 and IPOM 2006 has been the large scale deployment of consumer VoIP, linked to the success of Skype and alternatives including SIP-based approaches. In many countries VoIP is driving broadband deployment for SMEs where real costs savings can be accrued, especially for companies with remote staff in the ?eld.
