Design of an OEO with a voltage-controlled phase shifters-based phase-locked loop

In this paper， an optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) with a voltage-controlled phase shifter-based phase-locked loop (VCP-PLL) has been designed， analyzed and experimentally investigated. The experimental results show that the free-running OEO produces a frequency drift of 36 kHz within 60 minutes， whereas that of the designed VCP-PLL OEO is within 400 Hz. At frequency offsets of 1 kHz， and 10 kHz， the phase noise of the free-running and VCP-PLL OEOs are -76.1 dBc/Hz and -79.5 dBc/Hz， -98.4 dBc/Hz and -100.5 dBc/Hz， respectively. Additionally， in comparison with the OEO with a piezoelectric ceramic transducer-based PLL (PZT-PLL)， the frequency of the VCP-PLL OEO can be stable for a longer time. However， both the VCP-PLL and PZT-PLL OEOs have lower phase noise compared to the free-running OEO， while the VCP-PLL OEO exhibiting the lowest phase noise at low frequency offsets.

In the field of automated language processing, distinguishing between Moroccan Arabic (Darija) in multilingual contexts is a major challenge. This study addresses this challenge by exploiting feature selection techniques to improve the accuracy of tongue detection. Using a comprehensive methodology integrating various feature selection methods, including TF-idf, CBOW, Word2Vec for feature extraction, LASSO regression, decision trees for machine learning techniques, and statistical feature selection such as ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Mutual information, alongside semantic techniques by developing our semantic encoders adapted to Arabic data, we strive to uncover the most important, relevant language features while attenuating the noise. As a result, we have obtained robust results by applying the famous XGBOOST, with conventional extraction methods and SVD as a dimensional reduction method with a very reasonable execution time. Our experimental results highlight the effectiveness of feature selection techniques to reinforce supervised learning tasks. This research not only advances the field of natural language processing but also highlights the central role of feature selection in deciphering complex linguistic landscapes. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management 2024.

TERMS: Task management policies to achieve high performance for mixed workloads using surplus resources

Resource contentions and performance interferences can lead to workload performance degradation in mixed-workload deployment clusters. Previous work guarantees the resource requirements of latency-sensitive tasks and reduces performance losses to batch jobs by reclaiming surplus resources from over-provisioned tasks. While the fragmentation of resources leads to a mismatch between provisioned resources and task requirements, resulting in high operation overheads and losses of task fairness. This paper proposes TERMS, the task management policies based on task relevance, resource distribution, and task fairness to achieve efficient and low-cost task management. TERMS mainly includes three types of management policies. The task scheduling policy can schedule new tasks according to task relevance. Task selection strategies select tasks for resource provisioning and task resumption based on resource requirements and task fairness. If necessary, the node selection strategy can be used to choose befitting target nodes based on task relevance and node resource information for task migration when eliminating straggler tasks. Evaluation results show that TERMS can further improve the performance of latency-sensitive services and batch jobs, reduce management overheads, and avoid operation failures. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the criticality of timely intervention in a situation exacerbated by a shortage in medical staff and equipment. Pain-level screening is the initial step toward identifying the severity of patient conditions. Automatic recognition of state and feelings help in identifying patient symptoms to take immediate adequate action and providing a patient-centric medical plan tailored to a patient's state. In this paper, we propose a framework for pain-level detection for deployment in the United Arab Emirates and assess its performance using the most used approaches in the literature. Our results show that a deployment of a pain-level deep learning detection framework is promising in identifying the pain level accurately. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

A phase demodulation method immune to laser phase noise based on time-delay beat-frequency coherent Φ-OTDR is proposed. In this method, the two Rayleigh backscattered light beams with time delay are beat with local light beams respectively, and the phase difference of the two beat signals is used instead of the traditional distance-difference phase to obtain the local disturbance information. In this way, the impact of laser phase noise introduce by the distance-difference phase is avoid, and the constraint of laser linewidth on phase demodulation performance is weakened. In the experiment, a demodulation accuracy of -63.5dB rad2/Hz is achieved under the condition of a laser with a linewidth of 100kHz, which is improve by 11dB compared to traditional phase demodulation method. © 2023 IEEE.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is a major global health threat that was spreading very quickly around the world. Many mathematical models are being formulated to study the spread of COVID-19 and to predict its evolution, in order to help mitigating future outbreaks. The Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Recovered (SEIR) model is considered a prevalent model that describes various diseases outbreaks including COVID-19. The model divides the individuals into four groups;susceptible, exposed, infectious, recovered. To predict the evolution of the pandemic using the SEIR model, we first estimate the parameters as well as initial conditions. In this work, we model the spreading of COVID-19 pandemic using the SEIR in Gaza Strip to identify the better fitting model for forecasting future spread. The data required for estimation was collected between March 1st, 2021 and December 31st, 2021. The simulation results using SEIR model showed a significant model fitting, as there is no considerable difference from the real data compared to the respective model values. We also study the severity of the pandemic by identifying two important parameters;the basic reproduction rate (Ro), which determines the speed of the spread of COVID-19;and the infection fatality ratio (IFR) which estimates the proportion of deaths among all infected individuals. We obtained a value of Ro = 0. 89. IFR value is ranged between 0.079% and 0.085%, which is less than the global average of about 0.15%. © 2023 IEEE.

A technological interview was conducted with representatives of the judiciary to determine their expectations and beliefs related to the technological solution (involving detection of child sexual abuse materials using CNNs), being developed. The obtained results lead to the following conclusions: 1. Representatives of the judiciary recognize the advantages of the technological solution being created in the form of accelerating the work of experts and minimizing the risk of mistakes. 2. Representatives of the judiciary see the limitations of the technological solution being created in the form of the inability to replace court experts and emphasize that it also depends on the stage of the case. *** selection of pornographic materials from a specific set for later verification by a forensic expert is of the greatest importance. The increasing use of the Internet of Things (IoT), which has resulted in an exponential growth in network traffic, has serious implications on energy consumption and network performance. To reduce power consumption in cloud data centers, a server vacation-based energy-efficient traffic management solution is recommended. The primary idea is that using software-defined network (SDN) technologies, cloud system virtual machines (VMs) can take vacations. The goal of the energy-saving optimization task is to reduce the number of virtual machines (VMs) in use while maintaining service quality standards. This research study focuses on impatient client behaviour, several vacations, limited buffer and queuing system with many servers. Impatient customers may be kept in the cloud system by implementing certain customer retention strategies. The steady-state probability for the proposed SDN-assisted cloud system have been determined using recurrences. To determine the efficiency of the proposed system, several performance studies are conducted. © 2023 IEEE.

Increasing global energy consumption has become an urgent problem as natural energy sources such as oil,gas,and uranium are rapidly running *** into renewable energy sources such as solar energy is being pursued to counter *** energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources,as it has the potential to meet the world’s energy needs *** study aims to develop and evaluate artificial intelligence(AI)models for predicting hourly global *** hyperparameters were optimized using the Broyden-FletcherGoldfarb-Shanno(BFGS)quasi-Newton training algorithm and STATISTICA *** from two stations in Algeria with different climatic zones were used to develop the *** error measurements were used to determine the accuracy of the prediction models,including the correlation coefficient,the mean absolute error,and the root mean square error(RMSE).The optimal support vector machine(SVM)model showed exceptional efficiency during the training phase,with a high correlation coefficient(R=0.99)and a low mean absolute error(MAE=26.5741 Wh/m^(2)),as well as an RMSE of 38.7045 Wh/m^(2) across all ***,this study highlights the importance of accurate prediction models in the renewable energy,which can contribute to better energy management and planning.
