Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a group of inherited muscular diseases that are commonly diagnosed with the help of techniques such asmuscle biopsy, clinical presentation, and Muscle Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI). Among these techniques, Muscle MRI recommends the diagnosis ofmuscular dystrophy through identification of the patterns that exist in musclefatty replacement. But the patterns overlap among various diseases whereasthere is a lack of knowledge prevalent with regards to disease-specific ***, artificial intelligence techniques can be used in the diagnosis ofmuscular dystrophies, which enables us to analyze, learn, and predict forthe future. In this scenario, the current research article presents an automated muscular dystrophy detection and classification model using SynergicDeep Learning (SDL) method with extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost),called SDL-XGBoost. SDL-XGBoost model has been proposed to act as anautomated deep learning (DL) model that examines the muscle MRI dataand diagnose muscular dystrophies. SDL-XGBoost model employs Kapur’sentropy based Region of Interest (RoI) for detection purposes. Besides, SDLbased feature extraction process is applied to derive a useful set of featurevectors. Finally, XGBoost model is employed as a classification approach todetermine proper class labels for muscle MRI data. The researcher conductedextensive set of simulations to showcase the superior performance of SDLXGBoost model. The obtained experimental values highlighted the supremacyof SDL-XGBoost model over other methods in terms of high accuracy being96.18% and 94.25% classification performance upon DMD and BMD respectively. Therefore, SDL-XGBoost model can help physicians in the diagnosis of muscular dystrophies by identifying the patterns of muscle fatty replacementin muscle MRI.

Through the recent progress in the field of microelectronics and the emergence of wireless communication technologies, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have seen the light of day. However, one of the major problems of this type of networks is the energy efficiency. The overage is also a key problem as it determines the ability of a set of sensors to monitor a geographic area efficiently. In order to improve network deployment and throughput, this paper proposes a PSO-based approach to deploy nodes and select cluster heads efficiently. The suggested work has undergone significant QoS experimentation in a variety of scenarios. The results of this algorithm are investigated by implementing the Mod-LEACH algorithm in the data routing process. It is concluded that the PSO based clustering algorithm enhances the network throughput by improving nodes emplacement. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The rise of connected and autonomous vehicles signifies an era of intelligent transportation systems, where robust and continued network connectivity is essential for critical applications and enhanced in-vehicle Consumer Electronics (CE) experiences. Slicing at the network's edge offers tailored and dedicated logical networks for diverse and low-latency vehicular demands, including Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS) and in-car infotainment. However, seamless migration of network slices as vehicles traverse coverage areas of different network operators presents formidable challenges, such as ensuring continuous connectivity and uninterrupted service for both safety-critical systems and consumer-oriented services. In this paper, we introduced dynamic network slicing for continuous connectivity in connected vehicles and onboard CE using the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) framework in a highly dynamic and mobile environment. We implemented an xAPP within O-RAN that enables Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agent to learn optimal policies through interaction with the network, guiding intelligent decisions on slice migration, resource allocation, and handover optimization. We conducted simulations and evaluations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed xAPP in maintaining optimal Quality of Service (QoS), ensuring efficient RAN resource utilization, minimizing service interruptions, and prioritizing safety-critical slices, all while supporting seamless operation of CE within vehicles during mobility. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is increasingly being used to recognize hand signs due to its internal sensing capabilities. EIT systems operate by injecting a lowamplitude electrical current into the forearm through a set of electrodes and recording the resulting voltages for signal processing. However, this method can result in high power consumption in wearable hand gesture recognition applications due to the current injection-based principle. To overcome this limitation, our investigation focuses on reducing the power consumption of EIT systems by minimizing the number of injected currents. In this study, we propose an injection reduction approach based on ambiguity analysis and the reduction of non-relevant voltage readings. As a result, the proposed method eliminates 3 out of 8 current injections, leading to a 37.5 % reduction in power consumption. This decreases energy usage by 22.5 mW per measurement for a current amplitude of 150 μ A over 10 trials. Further, acquisition time was reduced from 1 second to 0.6 seconds. The classification accuracy using the KNN classifier reached 99 % with full measurements and 96 % with reduced injections. Moreover, a comparative analysis of the reduced injections to forearm anatomy is performed. It demonstrates that bones and high-density muscle areas can affect the current flow and result in inaccurate measurements. These findings demonstrate the potential for reducing current injections in EIT to produce more energy-efficient wearable hand sign recognition systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Handwritten signature verification (HSV) models are notably recognized for their ability to discern whether a signature is forged in an offline document. Recently, HSV technology has made significant development. However, these methods have primarily focused on the shape features of the text image and overlooked the textual feature information inherent in the text itself, which makes the HSV model overfit. In this paper, we propose a novel network model named OCR4HSV to solve the above shortcomings. The proposed OCR4HSV first attempts to combine OCR and HSV to learn textual features in a multi-task learning manner. The model employs a dual-parameter approach, combining shared parameters and independent parameters. Specifically, Within the shared parameters, the Laplace attention module (LAM) is incorporated for edge information extraction. For independent parameters, CN-Mamba is utilized for sequence feature extraction in OCR, and the multi-scale global fusion block (MGFB) is designed to enhance the distinction between reference and test sample pairs. Leveraging OCR-related information and these architectural enhancements can fully mine the inherent textual feature information and significantly mitigate overfitting in the HSV task, thereby boosting verification accuracy. Federated learning (FL) trains a shared global model by periodically aggregating gradients from local devices. Communication overhead becomes a principal bottleneck in FL since participating devices usually suffer from limited bandwidth and unreliable connections in uplink transmission. To address this problem, the gradient compression methods based on compressed sensing (CS) theory have been put forward recently. However, most existing CS-based works compress gradients independently, ignoring the gradient correlations between participants or adjacent communication rounds, which constrains the achievement of higher compression rates. In view of the above observation, we propose a novel gradient compression scheme named FedDCS, guided by distributed compressed sensing (DCS) theory. Following the design philosophy of separate encoding and joint decoding in DCS, FedDCS compresses gradients for participants in each round separately while reconstructing them at the central server jointly via fully exploiting correlated gradients from the previous round, which are known as side information (SI). Benefiting from this design, reconstruction performance is significantly improved with fewer decoding errors also iterations under the identical compression rate, and the total uploading bits to achieve model convergence are considerably reduced. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments conducted on MNIST and Fashion-MNIST both verify the effectiveness of our approach. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel filtering balun based on microstrip-to-slotline transition is proposed. Utilizing the inherent out-of-phase electric field distributions on the adjacent grounds of slotline, the balun function is realized. In order to realize the wide notched-band and stopband performance for radio astronomical applications, spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) metamaterial and multi-mode hairpin ring resonators (HRRs) are adopted. With these novel structures loaded, the proposed filtering balun exhibits a wide band from 1GHz to 6 GHz. The notched band is from 3.2 GHz to 4.4 GHz, within the notched band, the rejection level is better than 15 dB. Besides, the out-of-band suppression is below 35 dB in the wide frequency range from 6 GHz to 8 GHz. © 2023 IEEE.
