A measurement of event-plane correlations involving two or three event planes of different order is presented as a function of centrality for 7 μb−1 Pb+Pb collision data at sNN=2.76 TeV, recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Fourteen correlators are measured using a standard event-plane method and a scalar-product method, and the latter method is found to give a systematically larger correlation signal. Several different trends in the centrality dependence of these correlators are observed. These trends are not reproduced by predictions based on the Glauber model, which includes only the correlations from the collision geometry in the initial state. Calculations that include the final-state collective dynamics are able to describe qualitatively, and in some cases also quantitatively, the centrality dependence of the measured correlators. These observations suggest that both the fluctuations in the initial geometry and the nonlinear mixing between different harmonics in the final state are important for creating these correlations in momentum space.

The green ICT is becoming extremely important for energy saving. The power consumption of network devices i.e., switches and routers, can be reduced by changing the transmission rate on their interfaces according to the amount of traffic. Energy-efficient routing based on the power reduction of devices may be attractive way for effectively saving energy over networks. Some schemes for energy-efficient routing have been studied in which traffic from some sources is aggregated on the particular link/node for power saving of others when the amount of traffic on network becomes low. Effectiveness of these schemes were shown by computer simulations and experiments in their own network environments. Therefore in this paper, we first implement some schemes on our test-bed network to compare both power consumption and transmission performance of them. We also investigate the applicability and scalability of these schemes on large scale networks and finally discuss important issues for more general and effective schemes.

A search is presented for production of dark-matter particles recoiling against a leptonically decaying Z boson in 20.3 fb−1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with large missing transverse momentum and two oppositely charged electrons or muons consistent with the decay of a Z boson are analyzed. No excess above the Standard Model prediction is observed. Limits are set on the mass scale of the contact interaction as a function of the dark-matter particle mass using an effective field theory description of the interaction of dark matter with quarks or with Z bosons. Limits are also set on the coupling and mediator mass of a model in which the interaction is mediated by a scalar particle.

Concurrent adoption of software engineering process improvement frameworks have been widely practiced by the software organizations. The software development organizations leverage these frameworks to better address process improvement challenges. This paper develops an integrated framework for software engineering process improvement practices and unifies the theories in process definition and establishment. The unified framework provides a set of formal descriptions for software engineering process improvement frameworks. Requirements and architectures for software engineering process improvement frameworks are investigated. The main challenge in the integration is the interoperability of the frameworks. Inaccurate integration approach results in inefficiency of the integration process. Common interoperability issues in the integration of current process models and methodologies are addressed. In addition to this, omissions, differences and gaps can be identified and further examined for development of new unified framework. Taxonomy for software engineering process framework is used to support the understanding and comparison of diverse software quality frameworks. The taxonomy should be based on discipline-specific framework. Besides, other alternative approaches for comparing the software engineering process improvement framework are presented. The research outcome is expected to identify the structural relationships among the frameworks. Derivation from the taxonomy includes characteristics and categories of attributes tailored to the discipline-specific framework.

The IEEE 802.11e MAC protocol enhances the 802.11 CSMA/CA contention mechanism by allowing the adjustment of previously fixed MAC parameters. This paper studies the IEEE 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function (EDCA) traffic priority mechanism performance based on its priority parameter values, namely AIFSN, CWmin, CWmax and TXOP-Limit on a different traffic wireless transmission. In particular, we investigate how the changes of the QoS-parameters affect the throughput and the delay at WLAN traffic. The simulations results show that the changes of the QoS parameter can successfully prioritize video and voice transmission over data in a real EDCA Network. High priority traffic (the traffic with low AIFSN: Voice and Video) can give better QoS than the traffic with low priority.

The standard reinforcement learning algorithms have proven to be effective tools for letting an agent learn from its experiences generated by its interaction with an environment. Among others, reinforcement learning algorithms are of interest because they require no explicit model of the environment beforehand and learning happens through trial and error. This property makes them suitable for real control problems like traffic control. Especially when considering the performance of a network where for instance a local ramp-metering controller needs to consider the performance of the network, since limitations needs to be considered, like the maximum permissible queue length, reinforcement learning algorithms are of interest. Here, a local ramp-metering control problem with queuing consideration is taken up and the performance of standard Q-learning algorithm as well as a newly proposed multi-criterion reinforcement learning algorithm is investigated. The experimental analysis confirms that the proposed multi-criterion control approach has the capability to decrease the state-space size and increase the learning speed of controller while improving the quality of solution.

Learning Management System (LMS) is software that has been developed for the administration, documentation, tracking, and reporting the educational resources. Assignment Box Alert (ABA) is a type of LMS which has been developed to manage the student in assignment submission. Before the development of ABA, the submission assignments from the students to lecturer have been done manually either through the hardcopy by printing material or softcopy by using the compact disc. The manual system consumes lot of time, besides quite easily being damaged or misplace. In this project, the development of ABA using the Remote Method Invocation has able to manage the assignment submission efficient and effectively. This is due the transferred file by student can be view more systematically by the lecturer, while at the same time the notification from the system remind the student to upload assignment on time

Software project success depends on various reasons including project control, software standards and procedures. Software development organizations realize the importance of using best practices to improve software development practices. An increasing number of literature have described about process improvement best practices and standards. Formal process improvement frameworks have emerged widely to promote the use of systematic processes for software engineering. These approaches identify best practices for managing software engineering quality. They provide methods for assessing an organization's process maturity level and capability. In this article, recent process improvement best practices and standards are presented. Its objective is to analyze the existing approaches towards software process improvement initiatives. Another objective is to determine the issues related to adoption of process improvement and standards. The research outcome is to obtain the significant process improvement issues and formulate a classification of generic steps for process improvements.

Regression models are well known and widely used as one of the important categories of models in system modeling. In this paper, we extend the concept of fuzzy regression in order to handle real-time implementation of data analysis of information granules. An ultimate objective of this study is to develop a hybrid of a genetically-guided clustering algorithm called genetic algorithm-Fuzzy C-Means (GA-FCM) and a convex hull-based fuzzy regression approach being regarded as a potential solution to the formation of information granules. It is anticipated that the setting of Granular Computing will help us reduce the computing time, especially in case of real-time data analysis, as well as an overall computational complexity. We propose an efficient real-time granular fuzzy regression analysis based on the convex hull approach in which a Beneath-Beyond algorithm is employed to design a convex hull. In the proposed design setting, we emphasize a pivotal role of the convex hull approach, which becomes crucial in alleviating limitations of linear programming manifesting in system modeling. © 2011 IEEE.
