Performance evaluation is a serious challenge in designing or optimizing reconfigurable instruction set processors. The conventional approaches based on synthesis and simulations are very time consuming and need a considerable design effort. A combined analytical and simulation-based model (CAnSO*) is proposed and validated for performance evaluation of a typical reconfigurable instruction set processor. The proposed model consists of an analytical core that incorporates statistics gathered from cycle-accurate simulation to make a reasonable evaluation and provide a valuable insight. Compared to cycle-accurate simulation results, CAnSO proves almost 2% variation in the speedup measurement.

In this study, we proposed a powder-layered manufacturing process, a type of rapid prototyping technique, to produce desired bone shapes for transplants using biomaterial powder. In the experiments, we used conventional inkjet-type equipment and orthopedic filling-paste powder (BIOPEX), mainly containing alphatribasic calcium phosphate as the forming material. To solidify the powder, we used a sodium chondroitin sulfate? dibasic sodium succinate anhydride aqueous solution as the binder liquid. This paper discusses the results of investigations on the internal and surface chemical characteristics of formed artificial bones, formed artificial bones hardened by immersion process, and paste type artificial bones used in clinical applications, to determine the suitability of the immersion conditions. The bones were immersed for five hours in immersion fluid made of water and binder liquid at 90 °C?To analyze the chemical constituent, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used. The results showed that the hydrate reaction caused by the application of the binder fluid during forming enhances hydroxyapatite (HA) concentration by about 6.5 times. With samples immersed in water, HA was found internally as well as from the surface, the quantity of which was about 80?, 11 times more than conventional paste type artificial bone. On the other hand, with the samples immersed in the binder fluid, no HA crystals were detected internally. The percentages of P and Ca present on the surface were minute. Given the high quantities of C, O, and Na present, the immersion process is thought to have formed a thin layer of binder fluid. These results from the experimental samples indicate that immersion in binder fluid which showed no problems in terms of chemistry and strength is most appropriate for clinical applications.

In order to make modern measurement systems more flexible, faster and easier to configure and use, the implementation of wireless technology is needed into the Distributed Measurement System (DMS). There is a number of wireless standards available on the market, each one with unique characteristics. The paper is an attempt at categorizing different wireless standards to meet specific requirements of the DMSs. Innovative system architectures making use of modern microcontrollers and multiple wireless transmission standards were taken into account. In order to analyze the characteristics different wireless transmission standard (such as ZigBee and SimpliciTI.) in the operating condition available into the wireless DMS, experimental tests were devoted. The information obtained from theses experimental tests are used to develop a new design approach of the wireless connection into the DMS to integrate different standards and to achieve best transmission properties.

Modeling parasitic parameters of Through-Silicon-Via (TSV) structures is essential in exploring electrical characteristics such as delay and signal integrity (SI) of circuits and interconnections in three-dimensional (3-D) integrated circuits (ICs). This paper presents a complete set of self-consistent equations including self and coupling terms for resistance, capacitance and inductance of various TSV structures. Further, a reduced-order electrical circuit model is proposed for isolated TSVs as well as bundled structures for delay and SI analysis, and extracted TSV parasitics are employed in Spectre simulations for performance evaluations. Critical issues in the performance modeling for design space exploration of 3-D ICs such as cross-talk induced switching pattern dependent delay variation and cross-talk on noise are discussed. The error in these metrics when using the proposed models as compared to a field solver is contained to a few percentage points.

Background: Human ovarian carcinoma is a silent killer. Most patients with human ovarian carcinoma are diagnosed in the advanced stages. Currently, no effective means of early detection are available. Identifying genes that distinguish early cancers from normal tissue may provide insight to the initiation and progression of ovarian cancer. Methods: A large-scale gene expression profiling using 9,600 genes-complementary DNA array to study ovarian tumors was conducted. We analyzed 13 benign tumors, 22 invasive cancers (seven stage I and 15 stage III), and 16 normal ovaries. Cluster analysis revealed two major groups: the early-stage cluster that included 13 benign tumors and seven stage I cancers;and the late-stage cluster that included all stage III cancers. Results: There were 433 upregulated and 60 downregulated genes from the early-stage cluster, and 395 upregulated and 101 downregulated genes from the late-stage cluster. These genes showed altered functions for tumor/cancers, functions such as cell growth, cell cycle control, differentiation, signaling, apoptosis, ion transport, and morphogenesis. Of most interest is the downregulation of nuclear receptor proteins. Differentially expressed genes between early-stage cluster and late-stage clusters were identified. We found 90 genes preferentially overly expressed and 165 genes relatively downregulated at late-stage cancers. The advanced cancer appears differently from early-stage cancer in cell growth, cell adhesion, hormone activity, morphology, and cell-cell signaling compared with benign or early-stage cancer. Of particular interest are enzymes corresponding to pteridine biosynthesis, reported for the first time in this study. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that GCH1, KRT18, H3F3A, and MYBL2 were overly expressed in all cancer tissues, while MDFI, ARP3BETA, COL16A1, and MLN discriminated late-stage from early-stage cancers. This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W− production cross section in s=7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb−1 of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7±0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41−16+20(stat)±5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44±3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full data set (∫Ldt=36 pb−1) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 s=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high-energy regime.

A search for a Higgs boson has been performed in the H→WW→ℓνjj channel in 1.04 fb−1 of pp collision data at s=7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed over the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 240 GeVsection for H→WW production is 3.1 pb, or 2.7 times the standard model prediction.

This Letter reports on a search for narrow high-mass resonances decaying into dilepton final states. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in pp collisions at s=7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 1.08 (1.21) fb−1 in the e+e− (μ+μ−) channel. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% C.L. on the cross section times branching fraction of Z′ resonances and Randall-Sundrum gravitons decaying into dileptons as a function of the resonance mass. A lower mass limit of 1.83 TeV on the sequential standard model Z′ boson is set. A Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling k/M¯Pl=0.1 is excluded at 95% C.L. for masses below 1.63 TeV.

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework, extending previous limits. Within this framework, for A0=0 GeV, tan β=3, and μ>0 and for equal squark and gluino masses, gluino masses below 700 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.
