Modelling code mobility and migration: An OPM/Web approach

Web applications exhibit dynamic behaviour through such features as animation, rapidly changing presentations, and interactive forms. The growing complexity of web applications requires a rigorous modelling approach capable of clearly and explicitly addressing code mobility issues. While mobile agent systems and programming languages support the implementation of code mobility with features such as applets or mobile agents, existing system analysis and design methods lack the facilities to model code mobility satisfactorily. OPM/Web is an extension of object-process methodology (OPM) for modelling distributed systems and web applications that enables intuitive modelling of code mobility concepts in a single framework. We propose generic OPM/Web models for common code mobility design paradigms, including Remote Evaluation, Code-on-Demand, PUSH and Mobile Agents. An OPM/Web model of a mobile application that handles requests for Quality of Service over the internet exemplifies the use and advantages of modelling such systems in OPM/Web. Every activity has some Risk involved in it. Analyzing the Risk involved in a transaction is important to decide whether to proceed with the transaction or not. Similarly in Peer-to-Peer communication analyzing the Risk involved in undertaking a transaction with another peer too is important. It would be much easier for the trusting peer to make a decision of proceeding a transaction with the trusted peer if he knows the Risk that the trusted peer is worthy of. In this paper develop and propose such a methodology which allows the trusting peer to rate the trusted peer in terms of Risk that he deserves after the transaction is over. © 2005 IEEE.

Risk is associated with almost every activity that is undertaken on a daily life. Risk is associated with Trust, Security and Privacy. Risk is associated with transactions, businesses, information systems, environments, networks, partnerships, etc. Generally speaking, risk signifies the likelihood of financial losses, human casualties, business destruction and environmental damages. Risk indicator gives an early warning to the party involved and helps avoid deserters. Until now, risk has been discussed extensively in the areas of investment, finance, health, environment, daily life activities and engineering. However, there is no systematic study of risk in Decentralised communication, which involves e-business, computer networks and service oriented environment. In this paper, we define risk associated with trusted communication in e-business and e-transactions;provide risk indicator calculations and basic application areas. © 2005 IEEE.

Takemaru-kun system is a practical speech-oriented guidance system developed to examine spoken interface through longterm operation in a public place that collected natural humanmachine interaction data. In 2004 the following advances improving reliability of the system were introduced, which conduced acquiring positive increase of access from users: (1) Rejection of unintended speech based on Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs);(2) Removal of short, unnecessary inputs of impulsive noise;(3) Child or adult user discrimination;(4) Web-based monitoring mechanisms. This paper summarizes the Takemaru-kun system and analysis of 177,789 data collected by two-years actual operation. Experiments with the collected data proved that a combination of GMM-based verification and short input removal can excise 85% of the invalid inputs, including laughter, incomprehensible utterances, and even some background utterances.

Workflow technology has recently been employed as a framework for implementing large-scale business-to-business (B2B) information systems over the Internet. This typically requires collaborative enactment of complex workflows across multiple organizations. To tackle the complex of these cross-organizational interactions, we propose a methodology to break down workflow requirements into five types of elementary flows: control, data, semantics, exception, and security flows. Then, we can determine the subset of each of five types of flows necessary for the interactions with each type of business partners. These five subsets, namely, flow views, constitute a workflow view, based on which interactions can be systematically designed and managed. We further illustrate how these flows can be implemented with various contemporary Web services standard technologies. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

The proposed scaling algorithm outperforms other standard and widely used scaling techniques. The algorithm uses a mask of maximum four pixels and calculates the final luminosity of each pixel combining two factors;the percentage of area that mask coves from each source pixel and the difference in luminosity between the source pixels. The interpolation is capable of scaling both grey-scale and color images of any resolution in any scaling factor. Its key characteristics and low complexity make the interpolation very fast and capable of real time implementation. The performance results in a variety of standard tests are presented and compared to other scaling algorithms. © 2005 IEEE.

We show that a Horn SAT and logic programming approach to obtain polynomial time algorithms for problem solving can be fruitfully applied to finding plans for various kinds of goals in a non-deterministic domain. We particularly focus on finding weak, strong, and strong cyclic plans for planning problems, as they are the most studied ones in the literature. We describe new algorithms for these problems and show how non-monotonic logic programming can be used to declaratively compute strong cyclic plans. As a further benefit, preferred plans among alternative candidate plans may be singled out this way. We give complexity results for weak, strong, and strong cyclic planning. Finally, we briefly discuss some of the kinds of goals in non-deterministic domains for which the approach in the paper can be used. Speeding-up normalized neural networks for face/object detection

Finding an object or a face in an input image is a search problem in the spatial domain. Neural networks have shown good results in detecting a certain face/object in a given image. In this paper, faster neural networks for face/object detection are presented. Such networks are designed based on cross correlation in the frequency domain between the input image and the input weights of neural networks. This approach is developed to reduce the computation steps required by these faster neural networks for the search process. The principle of divide and conquer strategy is applied through image decomposition. Each image is divided into small-size sub-images, and then each of them is tested separately using a single faster neural network. Furthermore, the fastest face/object detection is achieved using parallel processing techniques to test the resulting sub-images simultaneously using the same number of faster neural networks. In contrast to using faster neural networks only, the speed-up ratio is increased with the size of the input image when using faster neural networks and image decomposition. Moreover, the problem of local subimage normalization in the frequency domain is solved. The effect of image normalization on the speed-up ratio for face/object detection is discussed. Simulation results show that local subimage normalization through weight normalization is faster than subimage normalization in the spatial domain. The overall speed-up ratio of the detection process is increased as the normalization of weights is carried out off line.

This paper proposes a detection procedure for the interval change of two chest X-ray images with different rotation angles of the human body around the axis parallel to the projection plane (such as anterior-posterior inclination and rotation around the body axis). The difference in angles causes shadow exchange between two images, which is difficult to handle precisely by the conventional position alignment procedure using nonlinear deformation. We developed a novel alignment procedure for each depth which was inspired by the fact that the position of the shadow on the X-ray image depends on the 3D depth (distance from the X-ray source) of the tissue which corresponds to the shadow. In this paper, the results of applying the proposed method to X-ray images taken from a chest phantom and an actual human body are presented and the effectiveness of the method is discussed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

A radical change (Feenstra, Holmer, Tromans, Moos and Mieritz 2003) in manufacturing is starting to occur. The Rapid Manufacturing, which can be defined as "the use of an additive manufacturing process to construct parts that are used directly as finished products or components", is set to supersede many current uses of moulds and dies. Rapid Manufacturing (Wohlers 2003) is based on new additive manufacturing techniques that produce fully functional parts directly from a 3D CAD model without the use of tooling. The ambitious scope of the European Initiative CUSTOM-FIT, a Framework 6 Integrated Project, is to create a fully integrated system for the design, production and supply of individualized custom-products. Within the cases under study there are strong connections to sporting articles. This project is being funded by the European Commission over the next four years and a half and will become central to European research concerning Rapid Manufacturing (RM).
