In this paper we present generic database model tools for L-systems (DBM-L). DBM-L allows representation of L-systems objects as database structures by a generic automatic translation process. This research contributes the idea of pre-computing recursive structures data into derived attributes using compiler generation. In this paper we supplied a method to allow a correspondence biologist's terms and compiler generated terms and to apply a biological friendly computing environment. We also present a visualization tool (VT) to representing the different data structures. The whole DBM-L provides a valuable package for biological scientific database management.

Low bit rate video coding has triggered intensive research in both academia and industry. To address the problem of heterogeneity, and meeting a very small bandwidth of mobile wireless networks, low bit rate scalable video compression is becoming more important. This paper discusses the current approach to wireless visual communications for the need of low bit rate scalable video compression, using discrete wavelet transform techniques. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has provided an efficient framework of multiresolution space-frequency representation with promising applications in image processing. This codec is based on 3D wavelet coding and adaptive quantization of the subbands coefficients. A common problem with some existing quantization methods is that the inherent image structures are severely distorted with course quantization. The Moving Picture Expert Group-4 (MPEG-4), an important component of the ITU standard is referred to as the benchmark of video standards for low bit rate video transmission.

This paper describes a design of an associative memory array processor that can be used in the acquisition and processing of ultrasonograph images. The major concept is to design a parallel architecture that reduces task's execution time by analyzing multiple parts of the image concurrently. The architecture constitutes a distinctive type of single-instruction stream, multiple-data stream machine that is built around content-addressable associative memory slabs, that allow parallel access of multiple memory words. The basic building block of this architecture is a one-pixel processing element, which can perform the standard load (data acquisition) function and also contains some special comparison logic to enable its content to be compared with an external data. Several image processing operations are implemented in parallel, among them: component labeling, size filtering, pattern centralization, and pattern recognition. The proposed novel architecture can label specific regions into the image and isolate them intelligently. It is also capable of storing templates that may be considered as references for similar cases. The system is able to perform learning process and extract features from several input patterns and store the reference pattern in a slice. Moreover, the system is capable of comparing an input image with a pre-stored template during recognition process. The proposed architecture is of interest because it speeds up the recognition process and helps radiology specialists to write their reports confidently.

Proposes a texture modelling method based on the pattern spectrum. The pattern spectrum is a mathematical morphological method to describe the size distribution of objects contained in an image. Our method is based on the idea of obtaining a model of the elementary particles that form a texture by optimizing a gray scale structuring element to fit the shape of elementary particles. The optimization method is applied in two stages: the first stage optimizes the extent of the structuring element and the second optimizes the pixel values in the extent.

This paper addresses state-space realizations for nonlinear adjoint operators. In particular the relationship among nonlinear Hilbert adjoint operators, Hamiltonian extensions and port-controlled Hamiltonian systems are clarified. The characterization of controllability, observability and Hankel operators, and controllability and observability functions will be derived based on it. Furthermore a duality between the controllability and observability functions will be proven. The statespace realizations ofsuch operators provide new insights to nonlinear control systems theory.

In order to evaluate a supply chain, simulation is a one of powerful approaches because of its uncertain factors. However, there are a large number of components in a supply chain, so that it is difficult to define a supply chain model for simulation. We propose a language for modeling and simulation which represents a supply chain in the combination of some functional types of graphical description. A definition and simulation tool with the proposed language has been also developed. By applying this tool to a sample supply chain, the efficiency of model definition is confirmed.

In ITS (intelligent transport systems), driving support systems for a driver is very important. The paper aims at providing the driver with blind spot information, in advance, taking his intention into consideration in a commuter system considered as one realization form of ITS. For such a system. we propose a "distributed sensory-intelligence architecture," which is an architecture that interconnects multiple sensory-intelligence agents. These sensory-intelligence agents are arranged in an "intelligent space" and interact to provide support for drivers. Through experiments we showed that the proposed "distributed sensory-intelligence architecture" enables valuable driving-support information to be provided to the driver by combining re-composition of environmental information with recognition of the driver's intention.
