Enhanced quantum resources via two distant atom-cavity systems under the influence of atomic dissipation

Quantum resources such as entanglement and coherence are the holy grail for modern quantum technologies. Although the unwanted environmental effects tackle quantum information processing tasks, suprisingly these key quantum resources may be protected and even enhanced by the implementation of some special hybrid open quantum systems. Here, we aim to show how a dissipative atom-cavity-system can be accomplished to generate enhanced quantum *** do so, we consider a couple of dissipative cavities, where each one contains two effective two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode cavity field. In practical applications, a classical laser field may be applied to drive each atomic subsystem. After driving the system, a Bell-state measurement is performed on the output of the system to quantify the entanglement and coherence. The obtained results reveal that the remote entanglement and coherence between the atoms existing inside the two distant cavities are not only enhanced, but can be stabilized, even under the action of dissipation. In contrast, the local entanglement between two atoms inside each dissipative cavity attenuates due to the presence of unwanted environmental ***, the local coherence may show the same behavior as the remote ***, the system provides the steady state entanglement in various interaction regimes,particularly in the strong atom-cavity coupling and with relatively large detuning. More interestingly, our numerical analyses demonstrate that the system may show a memory effect due to the fact that the death and revival of the entanglement take place during the interaction. Our proposed model may find potential applications for the implementation of long distance quantum networks. In particular, it facilitates the distribution of quantum resources between the nodes of large-scale quantum networks for secure communication.

Cancers have emerged as a significant concern due to their impact on public health and society. The examination and interpretation of tissue sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) play a crucial role in disease assessment, particularly in cases like gastric cancer. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is suggested to contribute to the carcinogenesis of specific gastrointestinal tumors. However, due to the nonspecific morphology observed in H&E-stained tissue sections, MSI determination often requires costly evaluations through various molecular studies and immunohistochemistry methods in specialized molecular pathology laboratories. Despite the high cost, international guidelines recommend MSI testing for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus, there is a pressing need for a new diagnostic modality with lower costs and widespread applicability for MSI detection. This study aims to detect MSI directly from H&E histology slides in gastric cancer, providing a cost-effective alternative. The performance of well-known deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and a proposed architecture are compared. Medical image datasets are typically smaller than benchmark datasets like ImageNet, necessitating the use of off-the-shelf DCNN architectures developed for large datasets through techniques such as transfer learning. Designing an architecture proportional to a custom dataset can be tedious and may not yield desirable results. In this work, we propose an automatic method to extract a lightweight and efficient architecture from a given heavy architecture (e.g., well-known off-the-shelf DCNNs) proportional to a specific dataset. To predict MSI instability, we extracted the MicroNet architecture from the Xception network using the proposed method and compared its performance with other well-known architectures. A directed acyclic graph (DAG) is a specialized form of directed graph used extensively for analyzing relationships and dependencies across various domains. However, spectral analysis - a core technique in signal processing on graphs - has been challenging to apply directly to DAGs due to their inherent acyclic structure. In this paper, we introduce a spectral filtering approach for DAGs using graph zero-padding. By adding extra nodes to the DAG, we create a modified graph structure that enables spectral analysis. This new structure supports the application of the graph Fourier transform (GFT) and spectral filtering techniques, enabling spectral filtering while maintaining key aspects of the DAG's topology and dynamics. © 2024 IEEE.

Spectral analysis of signals defined on Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) poses significant challenges due to the presence of zero eigenvalues in the adjacency matrix and equivalent shift operators, such as the random walk matrix. This characteristic hinders the differentiation between spectral components of signals on such graphs, rendering conventional spectral analysis impossible. To mitigate this issue, a zero-padding technique for signals defined on DAGs was recently proposed. Given the similarity between the properties of the random walk matrix and the adjacency matrix, this paper explores the feasibility of Fourier analysis using the eigen-decomposition basis of such matrices. The extension of the zero-padding concept to signals on DAGs described by the random walk matrix involves introducing additional nodes connected to the existing structure, with the signal values on these added nodes set to zero. The primary objective of this approach is to facilitate the computation of vertex-domain convolution, thereby enabling the output of graph filters without encountering aliasing issues. © 2024 IEEE.

The development of a dynamic model for a popular implemented solar power plant is a critical task for power engineers aiming to enhance the plant’s performance and reliability. In this study, we utilized the prediction error method (PEM), a robust algorithm for system identification, to capture the plant’s operational characteristics with precision. Additionally, we employed both recursive and hierarchical algorithms to identify the system parameters effectively. The results from each identification method are rigorously quantified and analyzed, allowing for a detailed comparison of their performance. This comprehensive evaluation not only highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, but also provides valuable insights into their practical applications in the context of solar power systems. © The Author(s) 2024.

The main contribution lies in presenting an application of the Lanczos algorithm to provide an eigenbasis for a specific type of discrete Sine transform, referred to the signal processing literature as DST of type one. This method, suggesting a new approach, opens up new possiblilities for finding the eigenbasis of other discrete trigonometric transforms, which serve as the key tool in image and video compression. © 2024 IEEE.

Directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) are often utilized for modeling causal relationships, dependencies, and flows in various systems. However, spectral analysis becomes impractical in this setting because the eigendecomposition of the adjacency matrix yields all eigenvalues equal to zero. This inherent property of DAGs results in an inability to differentiate between frequency components of signals on such graphs. To address this limitation, we propose, in this paper, a zero-padding approach for connected DAGs. This approach involves augmenting the original connected DAG with additional nodes that are connected to the existing structure. These added nodes are characterized by signal values set to zero and does not interfere with the original DAG except at the source and sink. The proposed technique enables the spectral evaluation of system outputs on DAGs, that is the computation of vertex-domain convolution (output of a graph filter) in without the adverse effects of aliasing due to the added nodes (added nodes do not change the original output of a filter on a DAG). © 2023 IEEE.

Neural networks have become a leading model in modern machine learning, able to model even the most complex data. For them to be properly trained, however, a lot of computational resources are required. With the carbon footprint of ever-growing adoption of neural networks in mind, an approach to reduce the required training resources would be very welcome. We designed a new training effort reduction method based on the calculation of area under the normalized loss curve and assessed it on the electricity consumption forecasting problem with the recurrent neural networks. The results show that the proposed method was able to considerably reduce the amount of computational resources, while maintaining the predictive performance, and thus contributing towards the Green AI. © 2024 IEEE.

ViGT: proposal-free video grounding with a learnable token in the transformer

The video grounding(VG) task aims to locate the queried action or event in an untrimmed video based on rich linguistic descriptions. Existing proposal-free methods are trapped in the complex interaction between video and query, overemphasizing cross-modal feature fusion and feature correlation for VG. In this paper, we propose a novel boundary regression paradigm that performs regression token learning in a transformer. Particularly, we present a simple but effective proposal-free framework, namely video grounding transformer(ViGT), which predicts the temporal boundary using a learnable regression token rather than multi-modal or cross-modal features. In ViGT, the benefits of a learnable token are manifested as follows.(1) The token is unrelated to the video or the query and avoids data bias toward the original video and query.(2) The token simultaneously performs global context aggregation from video and query ***, we employed a sharing feature encoder to project both video and query into a joint feature space before performing cross-modal co-attention(i.e., video-to-query attention and query-to-video attention) to highlight discriminative features in each modality. Furthermore, we concatenated a learnable regression token [REG] with the video and query features as the input of a vision-language transformer. Finally, we utilized the token [REG] to predict the target moment and visual features to constrain the foreground and background probabilities at each timestamp. The proposed ViGT performed well on three public datasets:ANet-Captions, TACoS, and YouCookⅡ. Extensive ablation studies and qualitative analysis further validated the interpretability of ViGT.
