SECP-AKE: Secure and efficient certificateless-password-based authenticated key exchange protocol for smart healthcare systems

Due to the importance and sensitivity of medical data, the security protection and privacy preservation of the Healthcare Internet of Things (IoT) are current research hotspots. However, existing research schemes still suffer from incomplete security properties, imperfect authentication mechanisms, and inadequate privacy preservation. Therefore, this paper presents SECP-AKE, a secure and efficient certificateless-password-based authenticated key exchange protocol for IoT-based smart healthcare, which enables batch authentication, resists physical attacks, and provides strong anonymity. Specifically, using certificateless cryptography, the SECP-AKE protocol enables batch authentication of authorized users and devices while also resolving the key escrow problem. In particular, the SECP-AKE protocol incorporates Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) to resist physical attacks, thus enhancing device security and ensuring reliable medical service delivery. Additionally, the design of a pseudonym update mechanism can achieve user unlinkability, thereby providing enhanced privacy preservation. The results from both formal verification using SVO logic and informal security analyses demonstrate that the SECP-AKE protocol is secure and offers more comprehensive security properties. Meanwhile, the use of a well-known automated security verification tool Scyther further evaluates the protocol’s security reliability. Ultimately, comparative experiments on communication overhead and computational overhead demonstrate that the SECP-AKE protocol is efficient and feasible compared to state-of-the-art existing works.

Economic Load Dispatch depicts a fundamental role in the operation of power systems, as it decreases the environmental load, minimizes the operating cost, and preserves energy resources. The optimal solution to Economic Load Dispatch problems and various constraints can be obtained by evolving several evolutionary and swarm-based algorithms. The major drawback to swarm-based algorithms is premature convergence towards an optimal solution. Fitness Dependent Optimizer is a novel optimization algorithm stimulated by the decision-making and reproductive process of bee swarming. Fitness Dependent Optimizer (FDO) examines the search spaces based on the searching approach of Particle Swarm Optimization. To calculate the pace, the fitness function is utilized to generate weights that direct the search agents in the phases of exploitation and exploration. In this research, the authors have carried out Fitness Dependent Optimizer to solve the Economic Load Dispatch problem by reducing fuel cost, emission allocation, and transmission loss. Moreover, the authors have enhanced a novel variant of Fitness Dependent Optimizer, which incorporates novel population initialization techniques and dynamically employed sine maps to select the weight factor for Fitness Dependent Optimizer. The enhanced population initialization approach incorporates a quasi-random Sabol sequence to generate the initial solution in the multi-dimensional search space. A standard 24-unit system is employed for experimental evaluation with different power demands. Empirical results obtained using the enhanced variant of the Fitness Dependent Optimizer demonstrate superior performance in terms of low transmission loss, low fuel cost, and low emission allocation compared to the conventional Fitness Dependent Optimizer. Zodiacal light (ZL) is sunlight scattered by interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) at optical wavelengths. The spatial distribution of IDPs in the Solar System may hold an important key to understanding the evolution of the Solar System and material transportation within it. The number density of IDPs can be expressed as n(r) ∼ r−α, and the exponent α ∼ 1.3 was obtained by previous observations from interplanetary space by Helios 1/2 and Pioneer 10/11 in the 1970s and 1980s. However, no direct measurements of α based on ZL observations from interplanetary space outside Earth’s orbit have been performed since then. Here, we introduce initial results for the radial profile of the ZL at optical wavelengths observed over the range 0.76-1.06 au by ONC-T aboard the Hayabusa2# mission in 2021-2022. The ZL brightness we obtained is well reproduced by a model brightness, although there is a small excess of the observed ZL brightness over the model brightness at around 0.9 au. The radial power-law index we obtained is α = 1.30 ± 0.08, which is consistent with previous results based on ZL observations. The dominant source of uncertainty arises from the uncertainty in estimating the diffuse Galactic light (DGL). © 2023, CC BY.

Excursion search for constrained bayesian optimization under a limited budget of failures

When learning to ride a bike, a child falls down a number of times before achieving the first success. As falling down usually has only mild consequences, it can be seen as a tolerable failure in exchange for a faster learning process, as it provides rich information about an undesired behavior. In the context of Bayesian optimization under unknown constraints (BOC), typical strategies for safe learning explore conservatively and avoid failures by all means. On the other side of the spectrum, non conservative BOC algorithms that allow failing may fail an unbounded number of times before reaching the optimum. In this work, we propose a novel decision maker grounded in control theory that controls the amount of risk we allow in the search as a function of a given budget of failures. Empirical validation shows that our algorithm uses the failures budget more efficiently in a variety of optimization experiments, and generally achieves lower regret, than stateof-the-Art methods. In addition, we propose an original algorithm for unconstrained Bayesian optimization inspired by the notion of excursion sets in stochastic processes, upon which the failuresaware algorithm is built. Local planning is one of the key technologies for mobile robots to achieve full autonomy and has been widely investigated. To evaluate mobile robot local planning approaches in a unified and comprehensive way, a mobile robot local planning benchmark called MRPB 1.0 is newly proposed in this paper. The benchmark facilitates both motion planning researchers who want to compare the performance of a new local planner relative to many other state-of-the-art approaches as well as end users in the mobile robotics industry who want to select a local planner that performs best on some problems of interest. We elaborately design various simulation scenarios to challenge the applicability of local planners, including large-scale, partially unknown, and dynamic complex environments. Furthermore, three types of principled evaluation metrics are carefully designed to quantitatively evaluate the performance of local planners, wherein the safety, efficiency, and smoothness of motions are comprehensively considered. We present the application of the proposed benchmark in two popular open-source local planners to show the practicality of the benchmark. In addition, some insights and guidelines about the design and selection of local planners are also provided. The benchmark website [1] contains all data of the designed simulation scenarios, detailed descriptions of these scenarios, and example code.

Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as transcranial infrared (tNIR) stimulation, offer promising advancements in sleep monitoring and regulation. To enhance sleep stage classification without relying on traditional polysomnography (PSG) systems, we propose a novel approach integrating single-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, heart rate variability (HRV) features, and tNIR stimulation. The maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) is applied for multi-resolution analysis of ECG signals, followed by peak information extraction. Based on the first-order deviation of peak positions, multi-dimensional HRV features are extracted. To identify HRV features strongly associated with different sleep stages, we introduce a feature selection method combining the ReliefF algorithm and Gini index. The selected features are then processed using the INFO-ABC Logit Boost method to establish correlations between HRV dynamics and sleep stages. Experimental results on publicly available datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves an overall accuracy of 83.67%, a precision of 82.59%, a Kappa coefficient of 77.94%, and an F1-score of 82.97%. Compared with conventional sleep staging methods, our approach enhances sleep quality assessment and facilitates real-time, non-invasive monitoring in home and mobile healthcare settings, leveraging the potential of tNIR-based NIBS for sleep modulation. © 2025 The Author(s)

COVID-19 analysis from medical imaging is an important task that has been intensively studied in the last years due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, medical imaging has often been used as a complementary or main tool to recognize the infected persons. On the other hand, medical imaging has the ability to provide more details about COVID-19 infection, including its severity and spread, which makes it possible to evaluate the infection and follow-up the patient’s state. CT scans are the most informative tool for COVID-19 infection, where the evaluation of COVID-19 infection is usually performed through infection segmentation. However, segmentation is a tedious task that requires much effort and time from expert radiologists. To deal with this limitation, an efficient framework for estimating COVID-19 infection as a regression task is proposed. The goal of the Per-COVID-19 challenge is to test the efficiency of modern deep learning methods on COVID-19 infection percentage estimation (CIPE) from CT scans. Participants had to develop an efficient deep learning approach that can learn from noisy data. In addition, participants had to cope with many challenges, including those related to COVID-19 infection complexity and crossdataset scenarios. This paper provides an overview of the COVID-19 infection percentage estimation challenge (Per-COVID-19) held at MIA-COVID-2022. Details of the competition data, challenges, and evaluation metrics are presented. The best performing approaches and their results are described and discussed. © 2024 by the authors.

Single-path Bit Sharing for Automatic Loss-aware Model Compression

Network pruning and quantization are proven to be effective ways for deep model compression. To obtain a highly compact model, most methods first perform network pruning and then conduct quantization based on the pruned model. However, this strategy may ignore that the pruning and quantization would affect each other and thus performing them separately may lead to sub-optimal performance. To address this, performing pruning and quantization jointly is essential. Nevertheless, how to make a trade-off between pruning and quantization is non-trivial. Moreover, existing compression methods often rely on some pre-defined compression configurations (i.e., pruning rates or bitwidths). Some attempts have been made to search for optimal configurations, which however may take unbearable optimization cost. To address these issues, we devise a simple yet effective method named Single-path Bit Sharing (SBS) for automatic loss-aware model compression. To this end, we consider the network pruning as a special case of quantization and provide a unified view for model pruning and quantization. We then introduce a single-path model to encode all candidate compression configurations, where a high bitwidth value will be decomposed into the sum of a lowest bitwidth value and a series of re-assignment offsets. Relying on the single-path model, we introduce learnable binary gates to encode the choice of configurations and learn the binary gates and model parameters jointly. More importantly, the configuration search problem can be transformed into a subset selection problem, which helps to significantly reduce the optimization difficulty and computation cost. In this way, the compression configurations of each layer and the trade-off between pruning and quantization can be automatically determined. Extensive experiments on CIFAR-100 and ImageNet show that SBS significantly reduces computation cost while achieving promising performance. For example, our SBS compressed MobileNetV2 achieves

The traditional production paradigm of large batch production does not offer flexibility towards satisfying the requirements of individual customers. A new generation of smart factories is expected to support new multi-variety and small-batch customized production modes. For that, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enabling higher value-added manufacturing by accelerating the integration of manufacturing and information communication technologies, including computing, communication, and control. The characteristics of a customized smart factory are to include self-perception, operations optimization, dynamic reconfiguration, and intelligent decision-making. The AI technologies will allow manufacturing systems to perceive the environment, adapt to external needs, and extract the processing knowledge, including business models, such as intelligent production, networked collaboration, and extended service models. This paper focuses on the implementation of AI in customized manufacturing (CM). The architecture of an AI-driven customized smart factory is presented. Details of intelligent manufacturing devices, intelligent information interaction, and the construction of a flexible manufacturing line are showcased. The state-of-the-art AI technologies of potential use in CM, i.e., machine learning, multi-agent systems, Internet of Things, big data, and cloud-edge computing are surveyed. The AI-enabled technologies in a customized smart factory are validated with a case study of customized packaging. The experimental results have demonstrated that the AI-assisted CM offers the possibility of higher production flexibility and efficiency. Accurate and secure classifying informal documents related to mental disorders is challenging due to factors such as informal language, noisy data, cultural differences, personal information and mixed emotions. Conventional deep learning models often struggle to capture patterns in informal text, as they miss long-range dependencies, explain words and phrases literally, and have difficulty processing non-standard inputs like emojis. To address these limitations, we expand data dimensionality, transforming and fusing textual data and signs from a 1D to a 2D space. This enables the use of pre-trained 2D CNN models, such as AlexNet, Restnet-50, and VGG-16 removing the need to design and train new models from scratch. We apply this approach to a dataset of social media posts to classify informal documents as either related to suicide or non-suicide content. Our results demonstrate high classification accuracy, exceeding 99%.
