In vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), moving vehicles carry data and exchange it as they pass each other. Storage in a vehicle, in other words, the amount of saved data is limited resource in general. Therefore, attributes of data that should be carried by vehicles is an important factor in order to efficiently disseminate desired data. In this paper, we focus on popularity of data and propose probabilistic data deployment based on its popularity. The proposed method deploys the data to vehicles randomly according to its relative popularity. By this simple operation, data can be deployed inside a vehicular network and as a result, data with high popularity tends to have larger number of copies inside the network than lower-popularity data. Performance evaluation shows that our deployment can work well in limited storage. © 2010 IEEE.

In the recent years, with the expansion of the Internet there has been tremendous growth in the volume of electronic text documents available information on the Web, which making difficulty for users to locate efficiently needed information. To facilitate efficient searching for information, research to summarize the general outline of a text document is essential. Moreover, as the information from bulletin boards, blogs, and other sources is being used as consumer generated media data, text summarization become necessary. In this paper a new method for document summary using three attribute information called: the field, associated terms, and attribute grammars is presented, this method establish a formal and efficient generation technology. From the experiments results it turns out that the summary accuracy rate, readability, and meaning integrity are 87.5%, 85%, and 86%, respectively using information from 400 blogs. ©2010 IEEE.

Employing a parallel crawler as a multi processes crawler causes different issues of concern in comparison to applying a single-process crawler. These issues impact on achieving the results with higher or even the same quality from a parallel crawler in comparison to a centralized one. Existed parallel crawlers' architectures employ link dependant metrics -such as Backlink count or PageRank - for URL importance determination in order to prioritize the queue of each process. Then the specific number of the most important pages is sent to the index section of the crawler for further processing on their content. Application of metrics with link dependent nature causes considerable overhead on the overall parallel crawler resulted from the link information exchange among different processes. In this paper we propose the application of clickstream analysis as a link independent Web page importance metric in a parallel crawler. Our approach includes proposing an algorithm for a balanced performance of different processes within a parallel crawler which results in the discovery of higher quality pages by the overall parallel crawler with less overhead in comparison to a centralized crawler which employs link dependant metrics of importance. © 2010 IEEE.

intelligent wheelchairs operating in dynamic environments need to sense its neighborhood and adapt the control signal, in real-time, to avoid collisions and protect the user. In this paper we propose a robust, real-time obstacle avoidance extension of the classic potential field methodology. Our algorithm is specially adapted to share the wheelchair's control with the user avoiding risky situations. This method relies on the idea of virtual forces, generated by the user command (attractive force) and by the objects detected on each ultrasonic sensor (repulsive forces), acting on the wheelchair. The resultant wheelchair's behavior is obtained by the sum of the attractive force and all the repulsive forces at a given position. Experimental results from drive tests in a cluttered office environment provided statistical evidence that the proposed algorithm is effective to reduce the number of collisions and still improve the user's safety perception. ©2010 IEEE.

The rapid growth of the computer technologies and the advent of World Wide Web have increased the amount and the complexity of multimedia information. Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system has been developed as an efficient image retrieval tool whereby user can provide their query to the system to allow it to retrieve the user's desired image from image database. However, the traditional relevance feedback of CBIR has some limitations that decrease the performance of the CBIR system that are the imbalance of training set problem, classification problem, limited information from user problem, and insufficient training set problem. Therefore, in this paper we propose a modified relevant feedback method to support the user query and user profiles based on the weight ranking of the image retrieved. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) has been used to support the learning process in order to reduce the semantic gap between user and the CBIR system. From the experiments, the proposed learning method has enabled the users to improve their search results based on the precision and accuracy. © 2010 ISAROB.

One of the main recent achievements in engineering is description of complex products and their physical environment in a single object model. This model has capabilities to serve engineering from the first specification of a product to recycling. New research programs were needed in order to establish a new style of engineering where engineers communicate model creation and application procedures. The authors joined to these efforts and developed new modeling methods for the above purpose. In this paper they introduce some of these methods considering needs by the complex and knowledge intensive engineering for robot systems. Paper starts with an outline of application of virtual spaces in robot system modeling. Following this, a content based contextual object definition is explained considering robotic application. Next, application of human control by contextual spaces for adaptive definition of engineering objects and the related control of product definition are shown. Finally, object space for robot system is outlined as application related issue of the proposed modeling. © 2010 IEEE.

In order to select a small subset of informative genes from gene expression data for cancer classification, recently, many researchers are analyzing gene expression data using various computational intelligence methods. However, due to the small number of samples compared to the huge number of genes (high-dimension), irrelevant genes, and noisy genes, many of the computational methods face difficulties to select the small subset. Thus, we propose an enhancement of binary particle swarm optimization to select a small subset of informative genes that is relevant for classifying cancer samples more accurately. In this proposed method, three approaches have been introduced to increase the probability of bits in particle's positions to be zero. By performing experiments on two gene expression data sets, we have found that the performance of the proposed method is superior to previous related works, including the conventional version of binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) in terms of classification accuracy and the number of selected genes. The proposed method also produces lower running times compared to BPSO. © 2010 ISAROB.

Microarrays technology offers the ability to measure the expression levels of thousands of genes simultaneously in biological organisms. Gene expression data that produced by the technology are expected to be of significant help in the development of efficient cancer diagnoses and classification platforms. The main problem that needs to be addressed is the selection of a small subset of genes from the thousands of genes in the data that contributes to a cancer disease. Therefore, this article proposes particle swarm optimization (PSO) with the constraint of particle's velocities to select a near-optimal (small) subset of informative genes that is relevant for cancer classification. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by two well-known gene expression data sets and obtained encouraging results as compared with the standard version of binary PSO. © 2010 ISAROB.

As devices such as computers, sensors and motors have decreased in size, wearable computing has become an increasingly active area of research. Guidance of general human behavior by expert navigation is expected to be realized through the development of wearable computing. We aim to apply this technology to first-aid treatment. If an injured or ill person requires first-aid treatment but only non-experts are nearby, guidance from an expert at a remote site would be necessary. We focus on the sharing of visual information between a first-aid expert at a remote critical care center and a nonexpert at the patient's location. Visual information about the remote site is captured by a head-mounted camera worn by the assistant and is shared with the expert, thus providing rich information on the status of the patient, the environment and the situation. In a typical master-slave configuration, the shared visual information is tightly linked between the expert and the assistant;that is, the assistant views what the expert wants to see. However, a tight link or synchronization is required only in certain situations, rather than at all times. The aim of this research is to develop a virtual viewing direction operation system with image stabilization for asynchronous visual information sharing between an expert and an assistant. The proposed system consists of three main parts: image stabilization, virtual viewing direction operation and the relative orientation display. The effectiveness of the developed system was confirmed experimentally. © 2010 IEEE.
