This paper focuses practical use of Shibboleth and its extension. Shibboleth is the open source framework that has been introduced in recent years for higher education in Europe. Shibboleth facilitates identity federation. However, this framework does not satisfy the all requirements of operational environment. We propose a method of solving the requirement that occur at during operation and perform an assessment of our extension.

Self-organizing map (SOM) proposed by T. Kohonen is a neural network with unsupervised leaning to classify multi-dimensional vectors. The performance of SOM implemented in software decreases as the number of neurons increases. Therefore, performance acceleration of SOM by custom hardware is highly desired. In addition the hardware implementation can make the best use of the parallelism embedded in the SOM algorithm. VHSIC hardware description language (VHDL) is widely used to describe and design digital hardware but the VHDL description becomes larger in proportion to the size of SOM. This paper discusses the automatic generation of VHDL description of the hardware SOM by software. A hardware SOM generator is developed and its preliminary results are presented.

To solve large scale 3-D non-stationary incompressible flow problems, an algorithm to perform an Incomplete Balancing Domain Decomposition (IBDD) is constructed in this work; as an improvement of the Balancing Domain Decomposition (BDD) method, it reduce the computation cost of the coarse problem by replacing the exact balancing procedure with an inexact balancing procedure; the nonlinear convection term of the Navier-Stokes equation is approximated by a characteristic-curve method, which is advantageous as it renders the matrix for linear equations symmetric, thus enabling the Conjugate Gradient (CG) method to be used together with the Schur complement system of Domain Decomposition Method (DDM); the algorithms are all implemented in parallel by the Hierarchical Domain Decomposition Method (HDDM) system, and the program provides solvability for models of over 10 million degrees of freedom (DOF).

We provide a feasible necessary and sufficient condition for when an unknown quantum operation (quantum device) secretly selected from a set of known quantum operations can be identified perfectly within a finite number of queries, and thus complete the characterization of the perfect distinguishability of quantum operations. We further design an optimal protocol which can achieve the perfect discrimination between two quantum operations by a minimal number of queries. Interestingly, we find that an optimal perfect discrimination between two isometries is always achievable without auxiliary systems or entanglement.

In this paper a possible application of a novel adaptive control approach is reported that fits to the “traditional line of thinking” according to which in the most practical cases neither very precise, nor even complete system model is needed for obtaining precise control for dynamical systems. The validity of this statement is briefly pointed out in the most popular approaches as the main idea of the Robust Sliding Mode / Variable Structure Controllers, in Lyapunov's 2nd Method, and in a recently published problem tackling based on the simple geometric interpretation of the Singular Value Decomposition. In the present approach differential equations are deduced from iterative Cauchy sequences to realize adaptive control of a coupled nonlinear system in “decoupled manner”, using single dimensional projections of the “acceleration space”. The paradigm on which the method is demonstrated is a 2 dimensional generalization of the originally single dimensional Φ 6 -type Van der Pol oscillator that is a popular paradigm of chaotic systems. Further possible generalizations of the novel method is outlined, too.

Field Association (FA) terms form a limited set of discriminating terms that give us the knowledge to identify document fields. The primary goal of this research is to make a system that can imitate the process whereby humans recognize the fields by looking at a few Chinese FA terms in a document. This paper proposes a new approach to build a Chinese FA terms dictionary automatically from Wikipedia. 104,532 FA terms are added in the dictionary. The resulting FA terms by using this dictionary are applied to recognize the fields of 5,841 documents. The average accuracy in the experiment is 92.04%. The results show that the presented method is effective in building FA terms from Wikipedia automatically.
