In iron and steel enterprises, it is difficult to obtain the lowest-cost optimal solution to an ore blending problem for blast furnaces by using the traditional trial-fault-trial (TFT) method because of the complexity of materials and burden of workflow. Here, we develop a set of decision support systems (DSS) software to solve the problem. Using the basics of analyzing business flow and the working process of ore blending, we pre-process the data for materials and elements, abstract a non-linear model of ore blending for a blast furnace, design the architecture for ore blending cost optimization DSS which integrates a database, a model base and a knowledge base, and solve the problem. The system has made economic gains since it was implemented in Xiangtan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd., China, in September 2008. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2010.

In this paper, a new desktop orthogonal-type robot, which has abilities of compliant motion and stick-slip motion, is first presented for lapping small metallic molds with curved surface. The robot consists of three single-axis devices with a high position resolution of 1 μm. A thin wood stick tool is attached to the tip of the z-axis. The tool tip has a small ball-end shape. The control system is composed of a force feedback loop, position feedback loop and position feedforward loop. The force feedback loop controls the polishing force consisting of tool contact force and kinetic friction forces. The position feedback loop controls the position in pick feed direction, e.g., z-direction. The position feedforward loop leads the tool tip along a desired trajectory called cutter location data (CL data). The CL data are generated from the main-processor of a CAM system. The proposed robot realizes a compliant motion required for the surface following control along a spiral path. In order to improve the lapping performance, a small stick-slip motion control strategy is further added to the control system. The small stick-slip motion is orthogonally generated to the direction of the tool moving direction. Generally, the stick-slip motion is an undesirable phenomenon and should be eliminated in precision machineries. However, the proposed robot employs a small stick-slip motion to improve the lapping quality. The effectiveness of the robot is examined through an actual lapping test of an LED lens mold with a diameter of 4 mm.

Locally indistinguishable subspaces spanned by three-qubit unextendible product bases

We study the local distinguishability of general multiqubit states and show that local projective measurements and classical communication are as powerful as the most general local measurements and classical communication. Remarkably, this indicates that the local distinguishability of multiqubit states can be decided efficiently. Another useful consequence is that a set of orthogonal n-qubit states is locally distinguishable only if the summation of their orthogonal Schmidt numbers is less than the total dimension 2n. Employing these results, we show that any orthonormal basis of a subspace spanned by arbitrary three-qubit orthogonal unextendible product bases (UPB) cannot be exactly distinguishable by local operations and classical communication. This not only reveals another intrinsic property of three-qubit orthogonal UPB but also provides a class of locally indistinguishable subspaces with dimension 4. We also explicitly construct locally indistinguishable subspaces with dimensions 3 and 5, respectively. Similar to the bipartite case, these results on multipartite locally indistinguishable subspaces can be used to estimate the one-shot environment-assisted classical capacity of a class of quantum broadcast channels.

We report the 3 rd year's progress of an internet based crossover robot remote control competition which is an international cooperative educational project among Japan, China, Thailand, and Taiwan. In 2009 we proposed a new competition model called “Cargo loading via internet based cooperation” in which a locally controlled humanoid robot and a wheeled mobile robot under remote control cooperate with each other to search for and find some cargos, then load them on the mobile robot or put them into a cargo box. The unique of the project is that everything concerned with the competition, e.g. the competition rules, the detailed technical problems, etc., are discussed and solved by students themselves from different partner universities via the internet based cooperation. The demonstration of the proposed competition between UEC and partner universities proves the project helps to improve students' practical ability, creative thinking, good teamwork spirit, and communication skills in English, etc.

This paper suggests a new stability analysis approach dedicated to a class of fuzzy control systems controlling multi input-multi output (MIMO) nonlinear processes by means of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic controllers. The approach is based on LaSalle's global invariant set theorem, and an original stability theorem offers sufficient stability conditions. The applicability and efficiency of the theoretical results are illustrated by a MIMO case study dealing with the fuzzy control of a spherical three tank system.

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is based on a collective method of various techniques for retrieving images through the appropriate features, such as color, texture and shape. Despite of selecting an effective collection of features for each image, it is significant to use appropriate and relevant criterion to measure the similarity between a query image and all the available images in the dataset. In this paper we are introducing a new and effective similarity measurement criterion. In other words, in order to retrieve the images in an impressive way, an artificial immune system (AIS) clustering algorithm, called Tecno_Streams, is proposed for content-based image retrieval. According to experimental results the proposed image retrieval immune-based system is more applicable and effective than the other methods such as histogram based criterion.

This paper describes a method using image processing and genetic algorithm-neural network (GA-NN) for automated Mycobacterium tuberculosis detection in tissues. The proposed method can be used to assist pathologists in tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis from tissue sections and replace the conventional manual screening process, which is time-consuming and labour-intensive. The approach consists of image segmentation, feature extraction and identification. It uses Ziehl-Neelsen stained tissue slides images which are acquired using a digital camera attached to a light microscope for diagnosis. To separate the tubercle bacilli from its background, moving k-mean clustering that uses C-Y colour information is applied. Then, seven Hu's moment invariants are extracted as features to represent the bacilli. Finally, based on the input features, a GA-NN approach is used to classify into two classes: `true TB' and `possible TB'. In this study, genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to select significant input features for neural network (NN). Experimental results demonstrated that the GA-NN approach able to produce better performance with fewer input features compared to the standard NN approach.

Conventional clinical diagnosis of tuberculosis disease such as manual screening by microbiologist are tedious, laborious and time consuming. Therefore, more research has been carried out to develop technologies that able to automate the detection process. This paper presents an automated approach to tuberculosis bacilli detection in tissue section. The proposed approach employs image processing technique and neural network for the segmentation and detection of tuberculosis bacilli. First, images of tuberculosis bacilli in tissue samples are captured using light microscope after stained with Ziehl-Neelsen staining method. Then colour image segmentation using moving k-mean clustering is used to extract tuberculosis bacilli from the tissue image. Two colour spaces, RGB and C-Y colour, were utilised in order to improve the quality of segmentation and robust against various staining condition. Next, geometrical features of Zernike moments are calculated. From these features, the best features that could detect tuberculosis bacilli with higher accuracy were selected using hybrid multilayered perceptron network. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is efficient and accurate to detect the tubercle bacilli in tissue.

Segmentation of tuberculosis bacilli in Zeihl-Neelsen tissue slide images is a crucial step in computer-assisted tuberculosis bacilli detection. In this paper, an automatic colour image segmentation using moving k-mean clustering was proposed. First, initial filter is used to remove the tissues images which remain blue after counterstaining process. After that, moving k-mean clustering using green component of RGB colour model and R y component of C-Y colour model are used to segment the TB bacilli from its undesirable background which also remains red even after decolourization process. Then a 5×5 median filter and region growing was used to eliminate small regions and noises. The proposed methods have been analysed for several TB slide images under various conditions. Experimental results indicate that the proposed techniques were successfully segment TB bacilli from its background.

Thirdly, a 5 × 5 median filter and region growing was used to eliminate small regions and noises. The proposed methods have been analysed for several TB slide images under various conditions. The results show that the proposed techniques were successfully segment TB bacilli from its background. Hence, the resultant images would furnish more useful information for further analysis by pathologists.
