This paper proposes an abnormality detection system for bather sitting in bathtub. Increasing number of in-bathtub drowning accidents in Japan draws attention. Behind this large number of bathing accidents. Japan's unique social and cultural background come surface. For majority of people in Japan, bathing serves purpose in deep warming up of body, relax and enjoyable time. Therefore it is the custom for the Japanese to soak in bathtub. However overexposure to hot water may cause dizziness or fainting, which is possible to cause in-bathtub drowning. For drowning prevention, the system detects bather's abnormal state using an ultrasonic sensor array. The array, which has many ultrasonic sensors, is installed on the ceiling of bathroom above bathtub. The abnormality detection system uses the following two methods: posture detection and behavior detection. The function of posture detection is to estimate the risk of drowning by monitoring bather's posture. Meanwhile, the function of behavior detection is to estimate the risk of drowning by monitoring bather's behavior. By using these methods, the system detects bathers' different state from normal. As a result of experiment with a subject in the bathtub, the system was possible to detect abnormal state using subject's posture and behavior. Therefore the system is useful for monitoring bather to prevent drowning in bathtub.

This paper proposes switch synchronizing delayed feedback control (abbr. SSDFC) in the piecewise linear systems. This control method weeds out the unsuitable control input from the different piecewise continuous functions. As an illustrated example, we then apply this general methodology to a simple circuit containing state-period dependent switch. Although the finite element analysis represents a well-known numerical solution for complex engineering problems, the right choice of the finite elements that should be used for the analysis is often a problem even for experienced analysts. The paper presents a prototype of the consultative knowledge-based system Z88FESES that was developed to support this initial pre-processing phase of the analysis in order to make it less experience-dependent. The system is adjusted to the freeware finite element analysis program Z88. The knowledge base consists of 24 data-driven production rules that are applied to select the appropriate finite element type out of the list of 20 different types that are available in the current version of the Z88 program. The most appropriate type of finite elements is proposed by the system considering problem description given by the user, who needs to answer some questions interactively. The prototype of the system has been experimentally used in practice within design process, and also as an educational tool. The results of these experiments are encouraging and can be used as guidelines for further developments.

Semantic dependency analysis has extensive applications in Natural Language Processing (NLP). In this paper, we present an integrated system for semantic dependency analysis of Chinese. The system is composed of 3 main modules;Syntactic analysis, headword assignment, and semantic dependency assignment. For the semantic dependency module, many classifiers are tested. Primarily, we focus on assigning headwords and determining semantic relations between headwords and modifiers. For headword assignment, we handcrafted a set of rules and achieved a very high precision of 99.54%. For determining semantic relations, we experiment with four supervised machine learning algorithms with varying features for Headword-Modifier relations assignment, and achieved precision of 84%. The experimental results show that our approaches are an effective step in developing a semantic dependency analyzer for Chinese.

Recently it has been shown that sum and product are not the only operations that can be used in order to define concrete approximation operators but several operations provided by fuzzy logic can be used. In this sense, in the present paper, pseudo-linear approximation operators of Shepard-type are studied from the practical point of view, in function approximation. It is shown that in several cases these outperform classical approximation operators based on sum and product operations.

Natural language has attracted importance to some researchers working on Emotion recognizing. We have made a Chinese emotion classification model and this time we add a new element to the emotion thesaurus of this model-metaphor. Through the studying of emotion, we find the metaphor is an important way of people's communication in natural language. In this paper, firstly, we introduce every part of our emotion classification model and are focus on the new element of metaphor in our emotion thesaurus. And then we do comparative experiments in order to test our model using metaphor before and after. At last the evaluation of our model is given and our model improved through using metaphor is proved to be a more effective model in recognizing emotion from text.

Intelligence and Emotion are two kinds of phenomena related to humans that are interesting, attractive, important and yet full of mysteries to scientific researchers. Both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Artificial Emotion (AE) have received more and more attentions from academic as well as engineering circles. As is well known that structuralism, functionalism and behaviorism have been the three dominant approaches to the simulation of intelligence in history up to the present. All the approaches have made progresses so far whereas they are also, however, facing critical difficulties in their development. Further more, there have been no connections between the research in AI and that in A.E. An attempt was thus made in the paper to propose a new approach to the research in AI and AE. Different from the structuralism, functionalism and behaviorism, this approach is featured by the direct concern with the central mechanism of intelligence and emotion and is therefore termed mechanism approach. It has been discovered as consequence that the transformations from information to knowledge and further to intelligence are the nucleus of the mechanism both for AI and AE and that a by-product that seems of significance has also been achieved at the same time - the three named approaches to AI can well be unified within the framework of mechanism approach. These discoveries, both AI and AE can successfully be simulated by mechanism approach and the three approaches can harmoniously be unified into one unity, may open up a new stage for the research in AI and AE as well as the integration of these two.
