Scrum is one of the most prominent agile development frameworks as it delivers the project in many sprints in an incremental manner. Sprint delivery capability is a crucial concept in the scrum projects as it assesses whether sprint can capable of delivering its issues on its length. It is difficult to consider forecasting sprint delivery capability in large scrum projects as multiple sprints are processed simultaneously and agile dynamics. Machine Learning (ML) models were applied in the existing studies to forecast sprint delivery but, had limitations in finding non-linear and hidden patterns. To address these problems, this research exploited the untapped ensemble learning approach to bridge the gap to improve the prediction of sprint delivery capability in different project progression levels. The study gathered the data from one of the large open-source scrum projects, JIRA which included 1873 iterations and 10853 issues in table format spanning at 30%, 50%, and 80% project progression levels. data preprocessing enabled to refinement of the data for analysis. The author enhanced the feature aggregation by using both statistical and automatic feature learning to derive the new features from the issue table and combine them with the iteration table. The key features affecting sprint delivery capability were identified using hybrid feature selection approach. The study developed the untapped ensemble models by choosing the different combinations of ML, Deep Learning (DL), and ensemble algorithms using appropriate ensemble methods and combination rules. The author examined the models and concluded that Categorical Boost (CatBoost) gained the highest accuracy of 96.8% at the 80% project progression level. This prediction assists in improving sprint planning, delivering the software on time, and getting more insights about sprint performance.

This paper examines several widespread assumptions about artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, that are often taken as factual premises in discussions on the future of patent law in the wake of 'artificial ingenuity'. The objective is to draw a more realistic and nuanced picture of the human-computer interaction in solving technical problems than where 'intelligent' systems autonomously yield inventions. A detailed technical perspective is presented for each assumption, followed by a discussion of pertinent uncertainties for patent law. Overall, it is argued that implications of machine learning for the patent system in its core tenets appear far less revolutionary than is often posited. © 2022 Published by OUP and CH Beck on behalf of GRUR e.V.

Understanding evolutionary trends in emerging viruses,such as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is crucial for effective public health management and ***,extensive debates have arisen concerning viral evolutionary trends,particularly the interplay between transmissibility,pathogenicity,and immune *** this context,we have developed a novel computational model named SIRSVIDE(Susceptible-Infected-Recovered-Susceptible-Variation-Immune Decay-Immune Escape)to simulate the transmission and evolutionary dynamics of viral *** simulation results indicate that under conditions of high mutation rates,elevated transmission rates,and larger susceptible host populations,viral populations exhibit prolonged increases in transmissibility and immune escape,accompanied by reductions in pathogenicity and noticeable short-term fluctua***,when the total susceptible population size and mutation rate decrease,substantial uncertainty in the evolutionary trends of viral populations becomes *** summary,the SIRSVIDE model establishes a comprehensive framework for generating both short-and long-term viral epidemiological and evolutionary *** simulation outcomes align with existing evidence indicating that SARS-CoV-2 is undergoing selection for heightened transmissibility,decreased pathogenicity,and enhanced immune ***,the model sheds light on the possible evolutionary dynamics of other viruses.

The rise in heart-related diseases has driven the development of advanced techniques for identifying irregular heart conditions, and with the progress in artificial intelligence and signal processing, automated arrhythmia classification using machine learning and electrocardiograms (ECG) has become increasingly effective and widely utilized by healthcare professionals. This paper presents an efficient machine learning solution for robust arrhythmia classification using 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) by leveraging blending ensemble learning. Our developed blending model utilizing six base models-Adaptive boosting, Extreme gradient boosting, Decision trees, K-nearest neighbors, Random forest, and Support vector machine-with a Logistic regression meta-model, demonstrates enhanced efficiency in classifying arrhythmias based on 12-lead ECGs. This approach not only exploits the unique strengths of each base model but also captures diverse predictive patterns, which are combined by the LR meta-model into a refined and cohesive output. The use of LR as the meta-model enhances interpretability and generalization, reducing the risk of overfitting and optimizing overall performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed blending ensemble outperforms conventional notable works in terms of accuracy and offers a robust and effective solution for accurate arrhythmia classification, i.e. up to 97.2% accuracy, supporting clinical decision-making.

Fuzzy Rule Interpolation (FRI) is important for fuzzy inference systems modeling pertaining to a sparse fuzzy rule base system. The focus of this paper is on a specific class of FRI, i.e., monotone FRI (MFRI), for modeling monotone Takagi-Sugeno-Kang Fuzzy Inference System (TSK-FIS) in the presence of a monotone sparse fuzzy rule base. On the other hand, a function is denoted as an n-ary aggregation function for a given n-dimensional input space and an output space when both the monotone and boundary properties are satisfied. In this paper, a set of sufficient conditions derived from the principles of Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) and the concept of orness for TSK-FIS to obey the monotone property is firstly formulated. We show that it is necessary to have a dense fuzzy rule base, which can be obtained by interpolation of fuzzy rules in a sparse fuzzy rule base, for constructing a monotone TSK-FIS. We then devise a two-stage MFRI for establishing monotone TSK-FIS. The first stage comprises a sufficient condition, inspired from the orness concept, to generate intermediate fuzzy membership functions (FMFs). The second stage deduces the monotone consequent of each intermediate rule from the available sparse fuzzy rules. We further extend our MFRI formulation to form TSK-FIS-like n-ary aggregation functions.

This article is devoted to the actual topic of studying scenarios for adapting a network infrastructure to a network of remote patient monitoring systems (PCMS). The paper presents an overview and analysis of scenarios for adapting the network infrastructure of monitoring systems. The stages of scenario execution have been studied and simulation models of the RPMS network infrastructure have been developed that implement various adaptation scenarios. A comparative analysis of adaptation scenarios was carried out according to several criteria, such as the speed of request delivery, delivery time, and network load. Simulation models built in the Anylogic environment, a powerful simulator of mass service system, showed the effectiveness of the mesh topology in relation to the ad-hoc topology according to several criteria. The theoretical significance of the work lies in carrying out analytical work on scenarios for adapting the network infrastructure of the RPMS, as well as in studying the network architecture. The practical significance of the work lies in the development of a simulation model that allows you to explore scenarios for adapting the network architecture. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper proposes a barrier function-based adaptive control strategy with a nonlinear sliding surface for a class of uncertain dynamic systems with input saturation. Its main objectives are to ensure robustness to parametric and non-parametric uncertainties whilst eliminating the reaching phase. A global nonlinear switching surface is defined and an adaptive barrier function sliding mode control approach is derived. The barrier strategy is adopted to ensure the convergence of the states to the desired values without overestimating the control gains. System stability is analyzed using the Lyapunov stability theory. The control parameters are obtained using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The control law is designed to remove the reaching phase. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was validated using a simulation study. The proposed control approach can easily be implemented to various nonlinear uncertain systems. © 2023 THE AUTHORS

Weighted Sparse Partial Least Squares for Joint Sample and Feature Selection

Sparse Partial Least Squares (sPLS) is a common dimensionality reduction technique for data fusion, which projects data samples from two views by seeking linear combinations with a small number of variables with the maximum variance. However, sPLS extracts the combinations between two data sets with all data samples so that it cannot detect latent subsets of samples. To extend the application of sPLS by identifying a specific subset of samples and remove outliers, we propose an ∞/0-norm constrained weighted sparse PLS (∞/0-wsPLS) method for joint sample and feature selection, where the ∞/0-norm constrains are used to select a subset of samples. We prove that the ∞/0-norm constrains have the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz property so that a globally convergent algorithm is developed to solve it. Moreover, multi-view data with a same set of samples can be available in various real problems. To this end, we extend the ∞/0-wsPLS model and propose two multi-view wsPLS models for multi-view data fusion. We develop an efficient iterative algorithm for each multi-view wsPLS model and show its convergence property. Resisting Noise in Pseudo Labels: Audible Video Event Parsing With Evidential Learning

Perceiving temporal events and discriminating their modality types in audible videos, which is also called audio-visual video parsing (AVVP), is becoming a research hotspot in multimodal video understanding. The AVVP task generally follows weakly supervised learning settings, since only video-level labels are provided. Most existing works usually generate modalitywise pseudo labels (PLs) first and then learn to parse audio or visual events from the audible videos. However, this paradigm inevitably results in two defects: 1) the generated PLs for each modality are not fully reliable, which may confuse models if they are adopted as supervision signals for discriminating modalities; and 2) the absence of temporal annotations increases the ambiguities in localizing foregrounds in videos, furtherly causing models prone to being disturbed by noisy labels. To tackle these problems, we propose a novel AVVP framework termed noise-resistant event parsing (NREP), which introduces evidential deep learning (EDL) to overcome the limitations of noisy pseudo supervision. Specifically, our NREP framework consists of three key components: 1) modalitywise evidential learning (MEL) that discriminates the modality-class dependency; 2) temporalwise evidential learning (TEL) that explores meaningful foregrounds; and 3) foreground-background consistency learning (FBCL) for collaborating two evidential learning branches above. Through perceiving meaningful video content and learning evidence for modality dependencies, our method suppresses the disturbance of noise in generated PLs thus achieving remarkable performance with different PL generation strategies. We evaluate our NREP method on two AVVP benchmark datasets and demonstrate it consistently to establish new state-of-the-art. Our implementation codes are available at https://***/CFM-MSG/NREP .

The eye-mind hypothesis suggests that people tend to look at what they’re actively thinking about, forming the basis of eye and gaze tracking. This concept is gaining attention in deep learning due to its broad applications. The use of AI alongside webcams to monitor eye movements is increasingly popular and expected to grow further. This is further emphasized by recent data showing a growing use of eye gaze estimation techniques, especially in marketing research, e-commerce, and educational tools. Accordingly, multiple previous research works have developed various eye and gaze estimation and tracking models. However, one main limitation is that many models use their own datasets for performance evaluation as well as having different underlying computing resources that are used during training. Consequently, it becomes harder to compare the effectiveness and efficiency of these models. To that end, this work aims at providing a comprehensive comparative study of three well-established eye gaze estimation models, namely OpenGaze, GazeRefineNet, ODABE, and FAZE models using a unified evaluation framework. Experimental results conducted using GazeCapture dataset illustrate that OpenGaze model achieves a mean error of 2.27 cm mean error, GazeRefineNet model achieves 1.91 cm, ODABE model achieves 3.46 cm, and FAZE model achieves 2.9 cm. This indicates that GazeRefineNet outperforms the other models in terms of accuracy while having comparable computational complexity.
