In this article, we present an evolution language for graph databases and a method to realize evolution operations on graph databases and their schema. Graph database management systems like Neo4j can be used for different scenarios: they can store graphs where no semantic constraints are checked. It is also possible to use them to store graphs where the structure of nodes and relationships is regular, for example, because the nodes and relationships of a graph have been generated by an application. In the latter case, these structures may change, that means they can undergo evolution. Currently, there is no established evolutionary language for graphs. However, evolution operations (such as add, rename, delete, merge, copy, split and move) have already been developed for other database models. In this article, we will not only use the established evolution operations but additionally extend the operations appropriated. After analyzing evolution operators explicitly in the context of graph databases, we also created a new graph-specific operation: transform. Moreover, we suggest an evolution language to graph data and show how it can be executed on the graph database schema as well as on the instances (i.e. the graphs themselves). In doing so, some operations can be implemented native based on Cypher, others non-native using the APOC library for Neo4j. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

Facial expression recognition under occlusion conditions based on multi-feature cross-attention

Although facial expression recognition (FER) has a wide range of applications, it may be difficult to achieve under local occlusion conditions which may result in the loss of valuable expression features. This issue has motivated the present study, as a part of which an effective multi-feature cross-attention network (MFCA-Net) is proposed. The MFCA-Net consists of a two-branch network comprising a multi-feature convolution module and a local cross-attention module. Thus, it enables decomposition of facial features into multiple sub-features by the multi-feature convolution module to reduce the impact of local occlusion on facial expression feature extraction. In the next step, the local cross-attention module distinguishes between occluded and unoccluded sub-features and focuses on the latter to facilitate FER. When the MFCA-Net performance is evaluated by applying it to three public large-scale datasets (RAF-DB, FERPlus, and AffectNet), the experimental results confirm its good robustness. Further validation is performed on a real FER dataset with local occlusion of the face. © 2024 – IOS Press.

Feature selection using modified chaotic satin bowerbird algorithm with deep transfer learning for Multispectral Image Classification

Multispectral image classification has received significant attention among research communities and academicians. Recently, several artificial intelligence (AI) models can be used for the extraction of prominent features. Besides, deep learning (DL) methods become more familiar and gained interest in the remote sensing community for the classification of multispectral and hyperspectral images. With this motivation, this paper presents an optimized feature learning with deep transfer learning enabled multispectral image classification (OFLDTL-MSIC) technique. The proposed OFLDTL-MSIC technique aims to categorize the different class labels of the multispectral images. Besides, the OFLDTL-MSIC technique applies multi-level discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based image decomposition technique. Moreover, the EfficientNet technique is applied as a feature extractor to generate a collection of features. Furthermore, selecting optimal features extracted by a EfficientNet involves identifying and retaining the most relevant and informative features The improved chaotic satin bowerbird optimization (CSBO) algorithm which uses dynamic population size is proposed for feature selection and kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) model is applied for the classification process. In order to ensure the enhanced performance of the OFLTDL-MSIC technique, a wide range of simulations take place using the Madurai LISS IV multispectral images and the results are examined under several aspects. Person re-identification is the task of identifying people across different non-overlapping cameras. Despite significant advancements in this field, several key issues remain, such as viewpoint variation, illumination variation, clothing variation and random occlusions. Notable efforts have been made to leverage the information existing in additional modalities, such as depth, infrared, thermal, skeleton some of which can be obtained by using RGB-D sensors. Notwithstanding the existence of these sensors, various limitations such as monetary or technical, may disincentivize some people from using them. Nevertheless, leveraging other modalities can help significantly in improving re-identification accuracy. In this paper we use depth estimation and edge detection algorithms to extract dept and edge maps and use the fusion in dissimilarity space framework for levering both depth and edge information. We train four models RGB, RGB-D, RGB-E, and RGB-DE with the corresponding modality as the extra input channel. Then for ensemble, we fuse the dissimilarity scores computed from each model to form a final ranking. We compare the performance of different combinations of models. Experimental results on the public iLIDS-VID and Market1501 datasets show that, using a simple ResNet50 backbone, for the iDILS-VID dataset our 3-modal ensemble achieves up to 12.9% and 16% improvement in mAP and Rank 1 metrics, and for the Market1501 dataset achieves up to 12.44% and 13.81% improvement. © 2023, The Authors. Comparing Time-Series Analysis Approaches Utilized in Research Papers to Forecast COVID-19 Cases in Africa: A Literature Review

This literature review aimed to compare various time-series analysis approaches utilized in forecasting COVID-19 cases in Africa. The study involved a methodical search for English-language research papers published between January 2020 and July 2023, focusing specifically on papers that utilized time-series analysis approaches on COVID-19 datasets in Africa. A variety of databases including PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of science were utilized for this process. The research papers underwent an evaluation process to extract relevant information regarding the implementation and performance of the time-series analysis models. The study highlighted the different methodologies employed, evaluating their effectiveness and limitations in forecasting the spread of the virus. The result of this review could contribute deeper insights into the field, and future research should consider these insights to improve time series analysis models and explore the integration of different approaches for enhanced public health decision-making. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

DCOR: Anomaly Detection in Attributed Networks via Dual Contrastive Learning Reconstruction

Anomaly detection using a network-based approach is one of the most efficient ways to identify abnormal events such as fraud, security breaches, and system faults in a variety of applied domains. While most of the earlier works address the complex nature of graph-structured data and predefined anomalies, the impact of data attributes and emerging anomalies are often neglected. This paper introduces DCOR, a novel approach on attributed networks that integrates reconstruction-based anomaly detection with Contrastive Learning. Utilizing a Graph Neural Network (GNN) framework, DCOR contrasts the reconstructed adjacency and feature matrices from both the original and augmented graphs to detect subtle anomalies. We employed comprehensive experimental studies on benchmark datasets through standard evaluation measures. The results show that DCOR significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is one of the most widely recognized psychological tools for categorizing personality types, often used in various professional and personal development contexts. This study presents a data-driven approach to MBTI personality classification using a range of machine learning models. By leveraging a dataset comprising user responses and linguistic patterns, we aim to predict the MBTI personality types with greater accuracy and reliability. Various models, including Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forests, and Gradient Boosting Machines, were evaluated to determine their effectiveness in classifying the 16 MBTI types. Our findings reveal that machine learning models can significantly enhance the predictive accuracy of MBTI classification compared to traditional methods. The Random Forest model, in particular, demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of [insert specific accuracy here] across the dataset. We also explore the importance of feature selection and data preprocessing in improving model outcomes, highlighting key features that contribute to personality type prediction. The results of this study suggest that a data-driven approach, combined with machine learning techniques, provides a promising avenue for more nuanced and accurate MBTI personality assessments. This approach not only enhances our understanding of personality prediction but also offers practical implications for applications in psychology, human resources, and personal development. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we employ dual-mode unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with both the active radio frequency (RF) module and aerial reconfigurable intelligent surface (ARIS) to assist ground users (GUs) for both the downlink energy transfer and uplink data transmission in a wireless-powered network. To maximize the GUs' minimum throughput, we propose a collaborative mode switching scheme for the dual-mode UAVs to dynamically switch between the active RF and passive ARIS modes according to the time-varying channel conditions. Besides, we jointly optimize the GUs' transmission control, the UAVs' beamforming, and the trajectory planning strategies. This optimization problem is intractable directly due to the non-convexity in both the objective and constraints. We design an iterative algorithm to first decompose the original problem into several subproblems, and then solve each subproblem individually by approximate optimization methods. Numerical results verify that the UAVs' collaborative mode switching along with their trajectories efficiently improves the transmission performance compared to the benchmarks in which both UAVs are operating in one fixed mode. © 2024 IEEE.
