Purpose - The main goal is to identify the skin surface temperature in the steady state. Since two types of equations (Laplace and Helmholtz) are considered, it is necessary to derive the Trefftz functions (T-functions) for the Helmholtz equation in the cylindrical system of coordinates (whereas for the Laplace equation they are known).Design/methodology/approach - Approximate solutions of two problems are expressed in the form of linear combination of the T-functions with unknown coefficients. For each problem, minimizing the functional that describes the matching of an approximate solution to the boundary conditions leads to a system of algebraic equations for these ***/novelty - T-functions for the Helmholtz equation are derived. An infinite set of these functions is a complete set of functions. Approximate solutions for temperature of skin surface caused by inflammation are determined both when perfusion is and is not taken into *** implications - The method presented in the paper is simpler than the ones used in the literature. The applied method always leads to results that fit the physics of the problem described by the used governing ***/value - The T-functions for the Helmholtz equation in cylindrical coordinates have been reported in this paper for the first time. The results are discussed with respect to practical applications.

Objectives. Enhancing police road traffic crash records with road traffic crash related data from other sources is of special importance. One of such sources are data on casualties' harm. However, it is time consuming to collect non-police data on casualties' harm, especially from scattered and structurally heterogeneous data resources. Thus, the objective of the work was to elaborate the concept of an appropriately organised central data acquisition system that refers to road crashes. After implementation, the system could support both road traffic safety research and road traffic safety decision making purposes. Methods. The investigation has been conducted taking into account the need of research on road traffic safety in which information from external road traffic crash casualty data sources and police databases are linked. It enabled drawing the conclusion that record-level road crash casualty data from multiple providers are generally not organised and accessible at a national level. In order to address a possible solution to the problem, in the work a systematic approach was used, in which selected elements of the system analysis were adopted. The component parts (subsystems) of the central data acquisition system and their possible interactions were identified and examined. Then, the system requirements and constraints were discussed. Results. The scheme of the central system has been elaborated, the organisation of which would make the provision of both road crash data from police and road crash casualty data from administratively diverse units possible for any stakeholders. A diagram of the data transfer was described and a selection of key fields for the data integration was proposed. As the whole issue has a country-specific nature, the approach was presented for Polish conditions. Conclusions. In this present manuscript, we investigate the Indian COVID-19 vaccination data sets from the beginning of the vaccination. We observed the artificial extreme events (AEE) in a vaccination process during the Teeka Utsav massive vaccination plan. We found some importance and effects of this event and subsequently we analyse the data set with the moving average. This study explores the reason behind the effects with respect to the second and third waves of COVID-19 in India. The importance of the extremely vaccinated days is discussed in this present manuscript.

This study presents a numerical investigation of transverse magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Casson nanofluid (CNF) flow over a nonlinear expanding surface, considering the effects of thermal radiation, heat generation/absorption, and chemical reactions. The research is significant due to its applications in biomedical engineering, polymer manufacturing, and industrial cooling systems, where precise control of heat and mass transfer is essential. The Casson fluid model is adopted to account for non-Newtonian behavior, and the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are incorporated to enhance the understanding of nanoparticle transport mechanisms. The governing boundary-layer equations are converted into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using similarity transformations. The Homotopy analysis method (HAM) is employed to obtain analytical solutions, providing a deeper insight into the parametric effects on flow characteristics. The study examines the influence of various parameters, including the Casson fluid parameter, Prandtl number (PN) (Pr), magnetic field parameter (M), Brownian motion parameter (Nb), nonlinear stretching parameter (n), Lewis number ( Le ), thermophoresis parameter (Nt), and chemical reaction rate, on velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions. Unlike previous studies, the PN is treated as a variable parameter to account for temperature-dependent viscosity variations. The findings reveal that increasing the Casson parameter reduces velocity due to enhanced fluid viscosity, while higher magnetic field strength suppresses flow due to Lorentz force effects. Additionally, Brownian motion and thermophoresis significantly impact temperature and nanoparticle concentration profiles, highlighting their importance in nanofluid transport. The study also presents graphical and tabular analyses of skin friction, heat transfer rate, and mass transfer rate, demonstrating their variations with key governing parameters. In this paper, an SIR spatiotemporal epidemic model is formulated as a system of parabolic partial differential equations with no-flux boundary conditions. Immunity is forced through vaccine distribution considered a control variable. Our principal objective is to characterize an optimal control that minimizes the number of infected individuals and the costs associated with vaccination over a finite space and time domain. The existence of solutions to the state system and the existence of an optimal control is proved. An optimal control characterization in terms of state and adjoint functions is provided. Furthermore, a second condition of optimality is given. The optimality systems are solved based on an iterative discrete scheme that converges following an appropriate test similar the one related to the forward–backward sweep method. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of our approach for several scenarios. © 2016, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

The paper presents the way in which hotel enterprises operate and how they delegate business functions and processes related indirectly to their core activities to external entities. Currently, the process of progressive corporate globalization can be observed in the Polish market. This phenomenon intensifies competition among hotels, in particular, on the part of significant rivals, namely global hotel concerns. Therefore hotels in their pursuit to increase their performance and competitiveness search for effective methods of organization and management. Among modern concepts of management, outsourcing deserves attention. Its growing significance among enterprises makes it an important management tool applied more and more often to non-productive business functions and processes of hotel enterprises. The aim of the paper is to present the type of tasks that are of key importance for the application of outsourcing in the modelling of business processes when creating the competitiveness of hotel enterprises operating during corporate globalization. The research shows that outsourcing can be used in many areas of hotel operations. As a result of the separation and delegation of specific tasks, an entity may focus on the execution of its core activities. The study indicates the benefits of building competitiveness through the implementation of the concept of outsourcing in the process of enterprise management. This increases the flexibility of operation from the perspective of corporate globalization.

Qualitative risk assessment of passive house design and construction processes

Global climate change and increasing energy costs as well as environmental concerns have led to increased worldwide interests in passive buildings, which have minimal energy consumption and reduced environmental impact. Passive houses design and construction processes are much more complex than it is in the case of buildings developed in the traditional standard and they are associated with many risks. In this work, the selected problems related to the design and construction of passive buildings were presented. The risks were divided into three categories: problems with the architectural and construction design, problems with the installation design, and problems at the building site. All in all, 30 risks in the design and construction of passive houses were identified. Their causes, consequences, and possibilities of detection were investigated. Qualitative risk assessment of passive houses design and construction applying Failure Mode and Effect Analysis was presented. That allowed it allowed to gather information for making decisions in the risk management process. The qualitative risk assessment results (the list of the most important risk factors, their causes, consequences, and detection possibilities) enhance avoiding undesirable problems and errors, as well as additional costs associated with the project failure and support meeting the deadline for the passive house investment. The qualitative risk assessment results are also the starting point for development of a comprehensive risk management model for the design and construction of a passive building.

中国城市在全球碳减排中扮演着核心角色,然而中国城市间巨大的经济发展差异深刻影响了中国城市减排的进程.城际供应链连接了城市的生产和消费,被认为是塑造地区分化和减排疲软的因素之一,但该效应在先前的研究中往往没有得到充分的考虑.本文对2012年中国309个城市的供应链进行建模.利用该模型,我们揭示了城市间存在显著的碳不平等:中国最富裕的10个城市的人均碳足迹相当于美国的水平,而中国一半的城市则低于全球平均水平.然而,这种显著的碳不平等也蕴含着新的减排机遇,即对32个超高排放城市,根据其富裕程度、产业结构和供应链的位置采取不同的减排策略,将可创造高达1.4亿吨的碳配额,距离碳达峰值增加了30%的空间.额外的碳配额足够使经济发展欠发达人口的平均生活水平达到中上收入水平,突出了城市层面的合作机制具有促进公平和减排目标收敛的巨大潜力.

Throughout its history, Operational Research has evolved to include a variety of methods, models and algorithms that have been applied to a diverse and wide range of contexts. This encyclopedic article consists of two main sections: methods and applications. The first aims to summarise the up-to-date knowledge and provide an overview of the state-of-the-art methods and key developments in the various subdomains of the field. The second offers a wide-ranging list of areas where Operational Research has been applied. The article is meant to be read in a nonlinear fashion. It should be used as a point of reference or first-port-of-call for a diverse pool of readers: academics, researchers, students, and practitioners. The entries within the methods and applications sections are presented in alphabetical order. The authors dedicate this paper to the 2023 Turkey/Syria earthquake victims. We sincerely hope that advances in OR will play a role towards minimising the pain and suffering caused by this and future catastrophes. © 2023, CC BY.

Accurate estimate of tree biomass is essential for forest *** recent years,several climate-sensitive allometric biomass models with diameter at breast height(D)as a predictor have been proposed for various tree species and climate zones to estimate tree aboveground biomass(AGB).But the allometric models only account for the potential effects of climate on tree biomass and do not simultaneously explain the influence of climate on D *** this study,based on the AGB data from 256 destructively sampled trees of three larch species randomly distributed across the five secondary climate zones in northeastern and northern China,we first developed a climate-sensitive AGB base model and a climate-sensitive D growth base model using a nonlinear least square regression separately.A compatible simultaneous model system was then developed with the climate-sensitive AGB and D growth models using a nonlinear seemingly unrelated *** potential effects of several temperature and precipitation variables on AGB and D growth were *** fitting results of climatic sensitive base models were compared against those of their compatible simultaneous model *** was found that a decreased isothermality([mean of monthly(maximum temperatureminimum temperature)]/(Maximum temperature of the warmest month-Minimum temperature of the coldest month))and total growing season precipitation,and increased annual precipitation significantly increased the values of AGB;an increase of temperature seasonality(a standard deviation of the mean monthly temperature)and precipitation seasonality(a standard deviation of the mean monthly precipitation)could lead to the increase of *** differences of the model fitting results between the compatible simultaneous system with the consideration of climate effects on both AGB and D growth and its corresponding climate-sensitive AGB and D growth base models were very small and insignificant(p>0.05).Compared to the base models,the in
