Crowdsourcing is a new wave of outsourcing which has become a new society paradigm that might change the outsourcing landscape in the future. Crowdsourcing offers substantial benefits to the involved parties. For crowdworkers, crowdsourcing offers flexibility in terms of time, locations and durations of doing tasks given to them and the most important is crowdsourcing will give them additional income to complement existing income that will help them to uplift their lifestyle. To organizations, crowdsourcing offers access to pool of talents or skills from all over the world which would not be economically feasible to maintain in-house or acquire out of house. In addition, faster execution as the tasks can be completed without having to hire or/and train new employees. Since crowdsourcing is considered as a new business concept which involves different integrations of crowd worker, job provider and crowdsourcing web based platform, proper crowdsourcing initiatives need to be strategically planned and evaluated. Hence, this study will look into one of crowdsourcing important part which is crowdsourcing business model. Business models are very crucial as it will explain a plan for the successful operation of a business, identifying sources of revenue, the intended customer base, products, and details of financing. This paper reviews the existing business model of crowdsourcing and critical analysis for each business model.

E-learning is not going to work if the system is not used in accordance with user needs. User Interface is very important to encourage using the application. Many theories had discuss about user interface usability evaluation and technology acceptance separately, actually why we do not make it correlation between interface usability evaluation and user acceptance to enhance e-learning process. Therefore, the evaluation model for e-learning interface acceptance is considered important to investigate. The aim of this study is to propose the integrated e-learning user interface acceptance evaluation model. This model was combined some theories of e-learning interface measurement such as, user learning style, usability evaluation, and the user benefit. We formulated in constructive questionnaires which were shared at 125 English Language School (ELS) students. This research statistics used Structural Equation Model using LISREL v8.80 and MANOVA analysis.

High performance computing on cluster and multicore architecture

Computing needs that is growing rapidly and more and more the need to make extensive computing resources commensurate. High computing needs can be met by using cluster and high speed processor technology. This study analyzes and compares the performance between cluster and processor technology to determine the high performance computer architecture that can support the process of computation data. Research using Raspberry Pi devices that run with the model cluster then be tested to get the value of the performance, FLOPS, CPU Time and Score. FLOPS value obtained then made equivalent to the load carried by the cluster computing Raspberry Pi. Research is also doing the same thing on the i5 and i7 processor architecture. The research use himeno98 and himeno16Large to analysis the processor and the memory allocation. The test is run on 1000x1000 matrix then benchmark with OpenMP. The analysis focuses on CPU Time in FLOPS and every architecture score. The result shows on raspberry cluster architecture have 2576.07 sec in CPU Time, 86.96 MLPOS, and 2.69 score. The result on Core i5 architecture has 55.57 sec in CPU time, 76.30 MLOPS, and 0.92 score. The result in Core i7 architecture has 59.56 sec CPU Time, 1427.61 MLOPS, and 17.23 score. The cluster and multicore architecture result shows that the architecture models effect to the computing process. The comparison showed the computing performance is strongly influenced by the architecture of the processor power source indicated on the i5 and i7 performance is getting better. Research also shows that both models of cluster and core i5 and i7 alike can process the data to complete. © 2015 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.

Speech, as the most important means of communication between human beings, underwent several scientific studies, but until now there remains much to do with this phenomenon. After more than 60 years of research, the representation of speech has not exceeded the representation of the content (standard MPEG7). This paper presents a step towards a standard semantic indexing of continuous speech (indexing by the sense). The index is presented based on the meaning of the elements (Verbs, Names) of the sentences. Also other information that we can extract from speech. The index will be simpler and more meaningful. We tried not to use any external source to represent the meaning, which makes it more difficult and need resources that not in mostly exist. Also it focuses only on the speech, making specific and effective index, and because the speech she is rich enough to have its own standard. This work presents a step towards our goal of a standard semantic indexing continuous speech.

Inter-channel Correlation in the EEG Activity During a Cognitive Problem Solving Task with an Increasing Difficulty Questions Progression

Correlation analysis allows detecting the degree of relatedness between two variables. Even when correlation does not mean necessarily causation, in a time series, it indicates the degree of synchrony of two comparing variables and in many aspects renders similar information compared with cross-coherence analysis of the electroencephalographic signal. In this work we explore rather simple statistical features to mine into deeper underlying aspects of the functional organization of the brain during performing an intelligence test. We studied time length duration taken to solve a series of questions ordered with increasing difficulty and the correlation values reached by tine series data synchronization between the 14 EEG channels placed in the subject's scalp, during the mental task. The intelligence test consisted in an abbreviated (15 questions) version of the Raven Matrices test. Results coming from the correlation analysis showed relevant information about functional organization strategies of the brain solving a cognitive problem, as well as good discrimination for inter-individual differences in the way inter-channel correlation values distribute differently for each subject around central values of R.

This research proposes a method to extract landmark of leaf shape using static threshold of polygonal approximation. Leaf shape analysis has played a central role in many problems in vision and perception. Landmark-based shape analysis is the core of geometric morphometric and has been used as a quantitative tool in evolutionary and developmental biology. In this research, the polygonal approximation is used to select the best points that can represent the leaf shape variability. We used a static threshold as the control parameter of fitting a series of line segment over a digital curve of leaf shape. This research focuses on seven leaf shape, i.e., eliptic, obovate, ovate, oblong and special. Experimental results show static polygonal approximation shows can be used to find the important points of leaf shape.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology is used to help couple that have problem in their reproduction organs. However, the success rate of IVF is just 30%, so it is a challenging task to increase that success rate. In this paper, we proposed an ellipse detection method on single and multiple embryo image by modifying the ArcPSO method on ellipse fitting process and the process on extract the arc segment for ellipse detection. The experiment results on single embryo data showed that the proposed method has a 24% better on F-Measure, 21% better on precision, and 28% better on recall as compared to the original ArcPSO method. While the experiment results on multi embryo data showed that the proposed method has a 7% better on F-Measure, 11% better on Precision, and 2% better on Recall as compared to the original ArcPSO method.

The expansion of data sources existed in the web affects on the quality of research information. The correct answer (answer specific) of a request is all depend terms selected for their construction. Such as these terms sometimes mean more sense, the intended meaning may not be found. Fort this need, the Semantic Web has come to cover the semantic level, it proposed an ontological representation of data sources. This representation is implemented by OWL (Web Ontology Language). The current challenge of the Semantic Web is the transformation of data formats exist (SQL, XML ...) to the form of ontology (RDF, OWL ...), in order to facilitate the integration of data sources exist in the semantic web. Our target is to provide a series of extension concepts of DTD2OWL method, a simple and effective method for transforming XML documents into OWL ontologies.

Identifying Problem Solving Strategies for Learning Styles in Engineering Students Subjected to Intelligence Test and EEG Monitoring

The cognitive approach of learning agrees in that behavior of the individual correlates with certain complex and dynamic mental processing operations modulated by certain internal mechanisms learned or improved during life. Applied to university learning, the demand towards students no longer focuses only in the results of the process but, ideally, in the development of individual styles based on cognitive preferences and learning strategies. Several tests such as Kolb and VAK or Hermann dominances allow distinguishing some learning styles such as: Divergent, Assimilator, Convergent and Accommodator; Visual; Kinesthetic; and Auditory. Meanwhile, by using electrophysiological tools like an electroencephalographic (EEG) recording it is now possible to measure individual differences in the varying electrical activity present in the cerebral cortex while a student face a cognitive problem or performs a test of intelligence. In this study, we tested 20 students from their early years of engineering to be classified in three systems of learning styles. The students were then subjected to a test of intelligence (Raven test, abbreviated version of 15 questions) with increasing levels of complexity. The time length to solve the test taken for students previously classified in four main styles yielded by the Kolb test, were analyzed. Then we grouped them by correspondences with the visual, auditory and kinesthetic predominance yielded by the VAK test. The response time was measured and the absolute frequency of response time for each question was calculated. During the Raven test execution an electroencephalogram with Emotiv Epoc Brain-computer Interface of 14 channels was recorded. After subtracting baseline and eliminating common artifacts with the help of EEGLAB toolbox under Matlab, we obtained clean signals for theta, alpha, beta and gamma bands. Order and Chaos in the Brain: Fractal Time Series Analysis of the EEG Activity During a Cognitive Problem Solving Task

The study of brain dynamics has been approached from different mathematical strategies with the aim to obtain more information of the bioelectrical signals coming from an electroencephalogram (EEG). Although several of these tools try to conciliate the fact of using linear approaches to study a non-linear phenomenon, during the last years a set of complementary and alternative approaches has been used to mine deeper into the nature of the brain dynamics and its correlates with experience, thoughts and actions. One of these approaches comes from chaos theory and fractal geometry and considers a model where brain activity, as a time series of an electrical potential variation (EEG) recorded from the scalp, can be assumed as a dynamical state that moves in the range of 1/ f α (fractal) noise. In this model it is possible to see brain dynamics as a functional state who moves from more chaotic or unpredictable dynamics (Brown or Gaussian uncorrelated noise), to quasi-chaotic or statistical noise (fractal or self-similar noise). The amount of order into the chaotic EEG background must be an indicator of the organization of brain procedural resources dealing with different circumstances. At the same time, it must reflect the degree of inter-individual differences and intra-individual variability in the way each different brain works. To test this hypothesis we implemented a study where EEG activity was recorded during the performing of a simple visual intelligent test (Raven test, abbreviated version of 15 questions) in a set of 10 adults to study their similarities and differences in the rendering of the test (estimated range of IQ) and in the process of solving the easy and the difficult part of the test. We estimated the Hurst exponent and the fractal dimension of the time series for each of the 14 EEG channels (Emotiv-Epoc® BCI headset) and searched for correlations and consistencies in the values of H and the difficulty level of the cognitive task.
