Botanical gardens play a key role in the conservation of biodiversity and generate large amounts of data related to the management and maintenance of plants on a daily basis. In this sense, the Network of Botanical Gardens in Cuba stands out, made up of 12 institutions that, among other things, have in common that they manage these data by dividing them into three main registers: Introduction Register, Living Plant Register and Herbarium. The diversity of formats and the heterogeneity of the information make it difficult to manage by the Center’s specialists, as well as to make it accessible to researchers and students in search of references. In this context, there is an opportunity to use artificial intelligence and natural language processing techniques to facilitate access to the implicit and explicit information contained in these records. To this end, it is proposed to evaluate the results of their use in order to finally obtain a product capable of using the extracted knowledge to provide recommendations and guidelines for the management and conservation of plants. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

IoT seems to be the trending solution in all sectors notably because of the yield in productivity, efficiency, effective strategies, and results that are associated with adapting to this technology. These positive results are enormously experienced in one of the crucial sectors which determine and ensure the prolonged healthy life expectancy of mankind. Enhancing communication between Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) and Unmanned Automated Vehicles (UAVs) has significant potential to improve road safety. The need for this communication is due to the fact that VRUs will no longer be able to establish physical eye contact with UAVs, given the absence of a human driver behind the steering wheel. However, a challenge in the state-of-the-art technologies for Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM), i.e. ITS-G5 (IEEE 802.11p) and Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X), is the lack of a unified communication stack that connects all types of users. This is because the current generation of CCAM communication technologies requires dedicated hardware devices that cannot be easily installed on devices carried by VRUs (such as phones or wearables). This paper aims to address this challenge by providing a real-life, sophisticated solution that offers the CCAM communication stack as a Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) in the 5G and Beyond ecosystem. Integration is achieved by relying on the Service Enabler Architecture Layer (SEAL) principles standardised by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). These architectural principles are embedded in the design of Network-Aware Edge Applications (EdgeApps), which are the building blocks of vertical services in 5G and Beyond. This way, any device or user with the capability to connect to 5G will also be able to retrieve important CCAM services from the network by using EdgeApps. In addition, no dedicated CCAM hardware is needed. Furthermore, this paper provides key lessons learned from the challenges encountered in connecting VRUs and UAVs by integrating CCAM into the 5G and Beyond ecosystem. Moreover, we have conducted real-life experiments to evaluate the system-level latency characteristics of the proposed solution and compared them with those of ITS-G5 and C-V2X. © 2024 IEEE.

Noise and photon loss encountered on quantum channels pose a major challenge for reliable entanglement generation in quantum networks. In near-term networks, heralding is required to inform endpoints of successfully generated entanglement. If after heralding, entanglement fidelity is too low, entanglement purification may be utilized to probabilistically increase fidelity. Traditionally, purification protocols proceed as follows: generate heralded EPR pairs, execute a series of quantum operations on two or more pairs between two nodes, and classically communicate results to check for success. Purification may require several rounds while qubits are stored in memories, vulnerable to decoherence. In this work, we explore notions of optimistic purification, wherein classical communication required for heralding and purification is delayed, possibly to the end of the process. Optimism reduces the overall time EPR pairs are stored in memory, increasing fidelity while possibly decreasing EPR pair rate due to decreased heralding and purification failure. We apply optimism to the entanglement pumping scheme, ground- and satellite-based EPR generation sources, and current state-of-the-art purification circuits that include several measurement and purification checkpoints. We evaluate performance in view of a number of parameters, including link length, EPR source rate and fidelity;and memory coherence time. We show that while our optimistic protocol increases fidelity, the traditional approach may even decrease fidelity for longer distances. We study the trade-off between rate and fidelity under entanglement-based QKD, and find that optimistic schemes can yield higher rates compared to non-optimistic counterparts, with most advantages seen in scenarios with low initial fidelity and short coherence times. © 2023 IEEE.

Delay-Tolerant Networks (DTN) are mobile networks specifically designed to operate in challenging wireless environments where connectivity is not guaranteed, and various issues such as frequent disconnections, long delivery delays, low delivery rates, and high error rates are common. One of the major problems of DTN networks is limited energy resources which impose strict constraints on the operational lifespan of DTN nodes. To solve these problems, we propose the adoption of a long-term strategy for energy management, based on the exploitation of renewable energies and the improvement of the HRTT topological architecture through the direct integration of renewable energy sources within DTN nodes. Indeed, DTN nodes powered by renewable energy resources, such as solar energy, have the potential to recharge themselves, extending their operational lifespan, increasing their storage and transmission capabilities, and reducing dependence on non-renewable energy resources. In this article, we assess the impact of limited energy resources and renewable energy resources like solar panels on the energy performance of DTN networks in the context of the Hierarchical Routing Tree Topology (HRTT), taking into account the average remaining energy as a performance metric. The evaluation of energy performance and the implementation of the HRTT topology are carried out using the ONE (Opportunistic-Network-Environment) simulator. According to the simulation results, the average remaining energy of nodes using renewable resources is significantly higher compared to the initial energy levels of nodes for all DTN protocols adopted by the nodes in the context of the HRTT topology. However, the average remaining energy of nodes using limited resources is lower compared to their initial energy levels for all DTN protocols adopted by the nodes in the context of the HRTT topology. © 2024 The Authors. With the increasing demand for indoor 5G communications, distributed antenna system (DAS) has received more attention as an important way to deploy indoor signals. As an important part of DAS design, the wiring planning largely affects the deployment cost and the output power of each antenna. Regrettably, the wiring planning problem has been somewhat neglected in past studies. This paper establishes a two-stage solution model for this problem as a way to fastly solve the DAS wiring planning problem. In addition, in order to accelerate the solution process for the wiring planning problem, an algorithm that utilizes a local search strategy and a diagonal turning points path retracing strategy is proposed. In two real scenarios, computer simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm is better than the comparison algorithm in solving the problem and reduces the solving time greatly. © 2023 IEEE.

The amount of written text on the internet has grown exponentially. When pairing that with the difficulties in sourcing the author of a text, a need emerges to be able to verify claimed author of text and attribute anonymous text to its author. These tasks fall under the umbrella of author identification, which is the process of identifying who, among a set of authors, wrote a given text. For many reasons, it is a challenging task in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). This paper compares the performance of different machine learning and deep learning models on the task of Arabic author identification between. The results surprisingly show that most models failed except for the feedforward neural network and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). © 2024 IEEE.

The use of convolutional neural networks (CNN) in the preservation of cultural heritage monuments, especially in conflict-affected regions such as Gaza, Ukraine, Iraq and others, represents a significant advancement in heritage conservation efforts. This paper presents an approach that uses a Multi-CNN model to classify images of cultural heritage monuments into various categories, encompassing period, monument type and location. By leveraging the capabilities of CNNs, this model demonstrates a high level of accuracy in categorizing heritage monuments based on multiple attributes. The study highlights the superior performance of the Multi-CNN model compared to other popular models such as DenseNet169, GoogleNet and MnasNet, highlighting its effectiveness in accurately classifying images of cultural heritage monuments in various dimensions. According to the evaluation results, the top-performing multi-CNN model achieves a classification accuracy of 94.52%, outperforming the single CNN models. The DenseNet196 model achieves 93.70% accuracy, the MnasNet model achieves 92.80% accuracy, and the GoogleNet model achieves 88.18% accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

Generative AI and text-based image synthesis are being pursued with more interest than ever and adopt a growing audience. This work offers a new way of producing images within a broad range of quality levels, deducing the extra value of the increase resolution. The system applies sophisticated technologies such as diffusion and upscaling models that are guided by the pre-Training of the Contrastive Language-Image PreTraining (CLIP). However, the model shines primarily in its ability to generate visually cohesive and artistic images which are a good illustration of each specified textual prompt. Upsampling technique resolved the major translation problems by generating more high resolution and detailed resultant images of base images. Beyond that, the system also thoroughly illustrated its diversity by accurately producing a comprehensive collection of images based on the text input. This work would largely be a demonstration of the suitability of it for different fields like digital art, advertising, and content creation. Moreover, it delimits the chances of producing innovative and unique content. Future development of many other applications of the system will include the improvement of the system handling more complex textual descriptions, the addition of user-interactive generation features, the optimization of system performance and expanding to multimodal content generation. Our results here only represent a small but important step in this exciting direction. By means of this survey we enrich further knowledges on the field and its farther issues. © 2024 IEEE.

Errors and omissions in the manual process of compiling student results in secondary schools in Pacific Countries were examined in this research. To do that, preliminary research on the existing manual record-keeping system in Fiji was examined in a few chosen secondary schools. A new software application was designed to automate the processing of such results. This solved the issues with manual result processing. C# programming language as well as SQL-Server were used to create a software package. The system's anticipated outcomes demonstrate that educators are not required to record student tests, examinations, and calculation results because the system takes care of almost everything, relieving teachers of the stress of having to prepare students' results. Similarly, it is less expensive to print individual student results on A4-sized paper or imprinted cardboard material that resembles a certificate and has a more attractive appearance than it would be to create result booklets. By reducing the time and energy needed for result preparation, this program will reduce the stress associated with the teacher's work and free up a lot of time for teaching as well as other instructional concerns. The record-keeping and evaluation process capabilities of such a new system can be adjusted to fit the needs of both higher secondary schools whether private or public. © 2022 IEEE.
