This work presents a numerical investigation of acoustic cavitation in Newtonian fluid based on frequency ultrasound. The model of ultrasonic cavitation dynamics is formulated by a modified Rayleigh-Plesset equation and an acoustic pressure equation. The exponential B-Spline collection method was employed to obtain the numerical solutions of the given cavitation bubble model, considering the effect of acoustic pressure. The behaviour of the cavitation microbubbles' radius and the internal pressure of acoustic cavitation were examined at different values of frequencies. The obtained results reveal the importance of frequencies in ultrasound, which play a vital role in changing the behaviour of cavitation bubbles. © 2023 IEEE.

A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

A mixed interval graph is an interval graph that has, for every pair of intersecting intervals, either an arc (directed arbitrarily) or an (undirected) edge. We are particularly interested in scenarios where edges and arcs are defined by the geometry of intervals. In a proper coloring of a mixed interval graph G, an interval u receives a lower (different) color than an interval v if G contains arc (u, v) (edge {u, v}). Coloring of mixed graphs has applications, for example, in scheduling with precedence constraints;see a survey by Sotskov [mathematics, 2020]. For coloring general mixed interval graphs, we present a min{ω(G), λ(G) + 1}-approximation algorithm, where ω(G) is the size of a largest clique and λ(G) is the length of a longest directed path in G. For the subclass of bidirectional interval graphs (introduced recently for an application in graph drawing), we show that optimal coloring is NP-hard. This was known for general mixed interval graphs. We introduce a new natural class of mixed interval graphs, which we call containment interval graphs. In such a graph, there is an arc (u, v) if interval u contains interval v, and there is an edge {u, v} if u and v overlap. Image preprocessing is a crucial step in enhancing the quality of skin lesion images before segmentation, with the primary objective of removing noise and artifacts that could interfere with the segmentation process and reduce accuracy. This process involves various techniques designed to address artifacts such as hair, black frames, skin lines, and vignettes, which may arise due to variables in image acquisition, such as lighting conditions and skin characteristics. Several preprocessing techniques used include artifact removal using Gaussian filter, bottom hat filter, and median filter, as well as hair removal methods like DullRazor and short line detector. Image augmentation techniques, such as rotation and transformation, are also employed to ensure that key features in the image are well preserved and accurately reflected in the data, helping to prevent overfitting during the classification stage. Additionally, contrast enhancement through methods like Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and gamma correction is used to improve lesion visibility and enhance the accuracy of lesion boundary detection. Findings from various studies indicate that appropriate preprocessing can significantly improve image quality, leading to more accurate segmentation. Descriptive statistical testing can be employed to analyze the extent to which these preprocessing steps affect segmentation outcomes, focusing on accuracy improvements and the reduction of segmentation errors caused by artifacts and noise in the images. Thus, effective preprocessing not only enhances image quality but also provides a stronger foundation for more accurate segmentation and classification in skin lesion diagnosis. © 2024 IEEE.

Multi-criteria rating conversion without relation loss for recommender systems

Traditional recommender systems let users provide a single rating indicating their overall preferences toward items. Beside overall rating, multi-criteria recommender systems let users rate on multiple aspects of items with multi-criteria ratings. Most methods in recommender systems are based on collaborative filtering, which makes recommendations by exploiting ratings from neighbor users. However, most of them ignore the fact that rating behaviors of users vary due to their personal preference biases. Thus, exploiting ratings from neighbors directly might result in a poor recommendation. To solve this, the rating conversion techniques have been applied in some single criterion recommendations. For multi-criteria ratings, converting each criterion rating independently might result in loss of relation among criteria ratings. We propose a novel method that simultaneously converts all criteria ratings between users to maintain their implicit relations. The multi-criteria ratings are first normalized by variances of users and principle component analysis is applied to extract user preference patterns. Such patterns are then used for multi-criteria rating conversion. The experiment results show that our method outperforms both current single and multi-criteria rating conversion techniques with RMSEs of 1.1082 and 3.5574 on TripAdvisor and Yahoo datasets respectively, while maintaining considerably high level of prediction coverages. © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The number of woven fabric on the island of Timor is very large and varied, making it difficult to distinguish between types and origins. Many woven fabric motifs appear similar but represent different types. Therefore, this classification was used to perform pattern recognition of woven fabric in the system. The process allowed the system's ability to be tested by applying the pattern recognition algorithm to woven images. In this context, the feature extraction method used was gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), while the method used for classification was artificial neural network (ANN). The results showed an accuracy of 87.5% in the system. Finally, GUI system was developed, enabling tests to be performed on woven images for the identification of Timor Weaving image patterns. © 2024 IEEE.

In the field of ontology-based query answering, existential rules (a.k.a. tuple-generating dependencies) form an expressive Datalog-based language to specify implicit knowledge. The presence of existential quantification in rule-heads, however, makes the main reasoning tasks undecidable. To overcome this limitation, in the last two decades, a number of classes of existential rules guaranteeing the decidability of query answering have been proposed. Unfortunately, such classes are typically based on different syntactic conditions imposing the development of different ad hoc reasoners. This paper introduces a novel general condition that allows to define, systematically, from any decidable class C of existential rules, a new class called Dyadic-C that enjoys the following properties: (i) it is decidable;(ii) it generalizes C;(iii) it keeps the same data complexity as C;and (iv) it can exploit any reasoner for query answering over C. Additionally, the paper proposes a simple and elegant syntactic condition that gives rise to the class Ward+ generalizing the well-known decidable classes Shy and Ward, and being included in Dyadic-Shy. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The undergraduate unemployment rate in Indonesia is increasing, necessitating universities to produce quality graduates. In alignment with global technological advancements, universities are committed to enhancing the quality of their graduates through curriculum evaluation. In this study, we investigated the Department of Information Systems at the University of Riau and developed an alum career analysis system using the AdaBoost algorithm. The data used in the study was collected via an online survey from graduates. Relevant features were selected from features to preprocess the data. The experiments conducted using the SAMME.R boosting method, with a learning rate of 0.1, 100 estimators, and cross-validation on the five-fold sampling method, resulted in the highest accuracy of 83.3%. The decision tree of the AdaBoost algorithm explains the factors influencing alums to pursue careers in their field, with English proficiency, learning methods, alum cohorts, and alum's activeness in job searching being the main determinants of success in their careers. The alum career analysis system proved reliable for evaluating the curriculum and producing quality graduates in line with technological advancements. Future work includes expanding the system to include graduates from other departments and implementing findings to improve the curriculum. © 2023 IEEE.
