Simulation of coupled spring-mass system using modified multistep deep neural networks

Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have a long time to be proven as universal function estimators. Recently, researchers have emerged DNN as an approximator for differential equation (DE) solutions which improved the conventional numerical methods without the discretization process. In this paper, we modified the DNN architecture to solve the DE problems by using a scalable hyperparameter in the activation function, which can be optimized to achieve the best performance of the DNN. In this case, we chose the Multistep time-stepping scheme to find a good solution of the DE problems, which is then continued by DNN to optimize the accuracy of the solutions. The proposed method called Multistep DNN is implemented in the problem of coupled spring-mass systems. The system is measuring the mass motion using a couple of the first-order systems of DE. The motion of the mass is described with and without any damping into the system, Some numerical results consist of the solutions of some variety model problems, both with and without damping and with the variation of mass and spring constant arranged vertically position. The modified Multistep DNN has better learning capabilities than the original one (without adaptive activation function) and classical multistep as it improves greatly the convergence rate, as well as the solution accuracy.

On efficient fourth-order Runge-Kutta-Central schemes for modeling tsunami propagation and run-up prediction

In our work, one-dimensional shallow water equations are proposed to model the phenomena of tsunami propagation and run-up. This model is known to be reliable to make predictions on maximum run-up along the shorelines above the mean sea level induced by the tsunami waves. 1D shallow water equations in a depth-averaged manner can be derived from incompressible Navier-Stokes equations by the simplification of lateral velocity (z-direction) using boundary conditions imposed on both free surface and bottom topography. In our current work, we assume there is no motion in the y-direction. Further, 1D shallow water equations in a conservative form are solved using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for time and second-order central difference schemes in space. We observed that the resulting high-order method in time is efficient, fairly accurate for their smaller stencil sizes, and has a slightly better stability property than that of the conventional forward Euler in time. This high-order method allows us to take larger mesh size and time steps while still producing small discretization errors. Our method was implemented using a low-level C++ programming language which is essential to incorporate larger domains (consecutively larger degrees of freedom) and to render fast computations. Using a conceptual test problem, we validate the numerical error, reproduce the theoretical convergence rate in both time and space while observing its computational efficiency. We also verified our model using two test problems – one for wave propagation and another is for the run-up. Our numerical models reproduced the expected outcomes when a tsunami wave travels in the ocean just before it arrives at the shoreline in terms of a solitary wave and finally collapses.

A study has been conducted in Pergau Reservoir water intake in Jeli Kelantan. Pergau reservoir is a man-made lake that uses to generate electricity for Kelantan State. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) was organized the Pergau Scientific Expedition 2019 on 28th October 2019 until 3rd November 2019 in order to check the current status of water catchment of Pergau lake as the intake for the reservoir. In this study, 12 sampling sites was identified by TNB which seven in water catchment area and five stations in lake. During sampling works, water sample were collected for ex-situ analysis and for in-situ analysis, water quality reading was taken using YSI multiparameter. During this study, greater reading was recorded in lake compared to river due to altitude and canopy cover that affect water quality. Greater reading on water turbidity and temperature in lake because affect by natural process and human activity while in river, canopy layer reduces the sunlight penetration. Based on Malaysia Department of Environment, water quality index for both river and lake were identified at 93.3 and 95.1 respectively which classified as clean. Based on this study, clean water quality index will ensure the water safe to be used and environment was healthy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Consumers nowadays are opted with inline business commerce which is inconsiderably inconvenience compared to traditional transactions. Deniably, e.-commerce enterprises offer more benefits, comparing to 'bricks-Andmortal' traditional enterprises, but not to be missed the issues and challenges faced by the e-commerce enterprises. This study highlighted the issues and challenges of e-commerce and a set of proposed solutions to those issues and challenges. Among the issues are trust, readiness and security. The automatic quadrature scheme for the first order weighted singular integrals

In this note, bounded and unbounded weighted Cauchy type singular integrals (SIs) with a variable limit of integration are considered. Automatic quadrature schemes (AQS) together with truncated series of first and second kind Chebyshev polynomials with corresponding weighted functions are applied to get high order approximate solution. Some examples are provided to validate the proposed method. It is shown that when the density function is a polynomial function the AQS gives an exact solution, and for rational function, the error term of AQS decreases gradually when the number of nodes increases.

In the member of mud crab, species of Scylla are the most traded seafood commodity in Asia and the culturing practice is already done in most of Asia country a few years ago. The demand for mud crabs has increased rapidly over the last decade, providing great potential for the development of the mud crab aquaculture industry. But, there is still unsolved problem where limitation of knowledge in identification is limited due to similar colours and feature characteristic. Thus, this study proposed an automatic technique that can evaluate and produce the subset of mud crab genus Scylla features by using Local Binary Pattern (LBP) as a feature extraction tool. The main objective of the study is to find the optimal subset of mud crab genus Scylla features from a carapace images dataset. Based on 153 extracted features chosen by LBP features selection methods, the accuracy rates of three classification algorithms were obtained for analysis. The results from the MatLab experiment demonstrated that, the LBP method produced an accuracy under 60% for entire classifier. © 2019 ACM.

This study investigates the facile and rapid detection of mercury ions using silica–silver core–shell nanoparticles (SiO₂–AgNPs) incorporating a paper-based colorimetric sensor strip. A strong surface plasmon resonance peak at λ = 430 nm was observed for the resultant SiO₂–AgNPs. The attachment of the AgNPs to the surface of SiO₂ and the deposition of the AgNPs on the paper strip were confirmed using an electron microscope. The sensing of the SiO₂–AgNPs toward the mercuric ion (Hg²⁺) in an aqueous solution indicated a rapid response in terms of a color change from yellowish-brown to colorless with a response time of 5–10 s. The prepared SiO₂–AgNPs deposited on the paper strip exhibited high selectivity toward Hg²⁺ compared with other metal ions. The limit of detection for this assay was 1.13 nM, with an excellent correlation value of R² = 0.9936. In addition, the complexation mode of the SiO₂–AgNPs with Hg²⁺ was also elucidated via theoretical calculations using the density functional theory approach. This approach also provides insight into the complexation structure in terms of the electronic alteration of the SiO₂–AgNPs prior to and following their interaction with Hg²⁺. Overall, the study demonstrates that SiO₂–AgNP-based sensor materials can be utilized for the selective recognition of Hg²⁺ in aqueous solutions. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

The rough set theory is essentially concerned with the classification mechanism and set approximations defined by an equivalence relation. There are some other investigations that extend the rough set model based on a tolerance relation. Due to the existence of uncertainty and complexity, we integrate the model of the rough set with the neutrosophic sets. It is vital to generalise the idea of tolerance relation into rough neutrosophic set theory. Some substantial tolerance properties of this hybrid structure are studied. Several extensions have been proposed in terms of approximation operators and granulation descriptions.

Design pattern is still actively discussed in software engineering academic research. The highlight of research that still gains attention is the use of design patterns as a learning medium to improve object-oriented design skills among fresh developers or novices. This paper focuses on the design of a learning model for design pattern selection. The main objective of the proposed model is to reduce the learning curve on design pattern application. Selected cognitive methods are implemented to minimize the cognitive complexity throughout the pattern selection process. This is aimed to assist novices in learning the process of matching the design problem to design pattern. This learning model will be utilized as a practice for novices to gain expert design skills from diverse design approaches through design patterns. The learning model simplifies the pattern selection process which comprises of three sub-processes;1) Identify design strategy 2) Identify design scope and 3) Identify design intention. In each sub-process, potential words indicating design flaws are highlighted to guide novices in identifying the underlying design issues in the attended problem. The keywords highlight feature enables novices to highlight correct information within the design problem that leads to the identification of the right solution from design patterns. © 2020 ACM.

A topological index is a numerical measure characterizing a whole structure of a particularly given graph. Moreover, in chemical graph theory, the Zagreb indices idea, which is based on the number of vertex degrees, was proposed. More Zagreb index variations were later created, and some of these indexes were recently produced. This paper outlines the Zagreb indices and Zagreb coindices with respect to the line graphs of Polyphenylene dendrimer subdivision graphs. Numerous creative families of Zagreb indices were also numerically simulated, comparing the two types of indices that can be relevant with respect to the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) as well as quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPR) research.
