Tensile properties of hybrid kenaf/glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites with different stacking sequence using experimental and FEA simulation method

The conventional overhead transmission line insulators are usually made of glass and ceramics, but the materials are heavy and bulky. Therefore, kenaf fibre was chosen as partial replacement material to be reinforced with Glass/epoxy composite to reduce the weight and bulkiness of the composite structures. This study used Epoxy as matrix and kenaf/glass fibres to reinforce fillers to fabricate the composites in various stacking sequences. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was carried out using LS-DYNA software to investigate the tensile properties of the hybrid composite. The results showed a significant improvement in tensile values of the modelled composite exhibited by the kenaf/glass fibre. The tensile strength of the hybrid composites was comparable with the Glass/Kenaf/Epoxy hybrid composites' experimental results. About 200% tensile strength improvement can be observed for both experimental and numerical for G/K/G/E sample than pure epoxy samples, thus making the new composite a potential substitute for insulator applications.

Weighting Temporary Change Outlier by Modified Huber Function with Monte Carlo Simulations

Robust method is a popular approach to dealing the existence of outliers in the data. Many researchers have applied Huber weight function. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the Huber weight function and the modification of the Huber weight function on the temporary change (TC) outliers. The data used in this paper were generated as ARMA(1,0)-GARCH(1,2) model via the Monte Carlo simulation. There are three major situations in this simulations: without weight (WW), with Huber weight (WH) and with a modified Huber weight (WMH). Three different TC contamination (0%, 10% and 20%) and three different time series length (100, 500 and 1000) were tested. The performance of the three situations was compared on the basis of AIC, SIC, HQIC, MAE, MSE and RMSE. The results of the numerical simulations show that the performance in the WMH situation is better than the WH situation in the presence of TC outliers.

Study of Solar Radiation Effect on Radio Signal Using Plasma Antenna

Plasma antenna can be formed by energizing glass tubes which are filled with neutral gases. It works similarly as metal antenna where it can transmit and receive wireless signal. This study aims to investigate the effect of weather focused on solar radiation towards the performance of plasma antenna represented by signal strength. Fluorescent lamp was set as plasma because it used ionized gas as its conducting element instead of metal. Execution of electrical properties measurements need to be done first, in order to obtain discharge current and voltage values, that need to be used into Glomac programming for the generation of electron temperature and electron density. Next, calculations of the plasma properties was performed to derive the value of plasma and collision frequencies. The plasma properties are important parameters to design and simulate plasma antenna using Computer Simulation technology (CST). Antenna parameters in terms of return loss, gain, directivity and radiation pattern can be simulated using CST. Signal strength experiment was conducted to evaluate plasma antenna performance in terms of its capability to capture the signals and analyse the effect of solar radiation on that particular moment through the rate of power level over time versus solar radiation data. It was observed at the highest solar radiation rate which is 920 V/m, the power level recorded is the lowest value at-172.93 dBm. Therefore, the signal strength received by the plasma antenna shows remarkable changes under the influence of solar radiation.

Secure Database on Attendance Verification System by using Data Masking Technique

Data Masking Technique is a system designed to secure sensitive data by replacing the front data but not the original data. For instance, the data masking techniques capable to hide any data from being viewed by any unauthorized users. However, fewer studies about data masking techniques in the attendance system are implemented. Previous studies have primarily concentrated on defining sensitive data exposure and the technique of securing sensitive data using data masking. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to integrate the use of the data masking technique towards the attendance verification system. Thus, it is sufficient to stop unauthorized users from accessing confidential data. This study also applied the iterative model as a software development methodology as well as integrated with the hashing concept. Therefore, the attendance verification system can be used to perform the functionalities of easily manage records. By using this technique, the attendance of a student was added with a security element. The result shows that data masking and hashing techniques ensure the confidentiality of student data from being viewed by unauthorized parties. The authorized person is the ability to see the masked of sensitive student data. The significance of this study is capable to implement the security element on the attendance system and verify the user before entering the system

Slowloris DoS Attack Based Simulation

Denial of Service (DoS) attack is a type of cybercrime when an internet site is unavailable to be accessed by the user. The DoS attack is one of the popular attacks which can be launched by using a single machine and could take down many web servers by sending a lot of request to the server until it is disconnected. The objective of this paper is to simulate the launch and prevention against the DoS attack towards the website. The simulation of DoS attack is implemented by using ActivePerl Language and tested by using Slowloris DoS Attack. Both software shows a good combination of simulation program because it supports each other to exhaust the available connections on the servers. The result shows that the website connection is successfully unavailable to be accessed by legitimate user. In addition, the website still could not be served even clearing the cache of the browser. Finally, this paper discusses about future solution of DoS attack and recommendation for secure environment architecture.

In this note, the homotopy analysis method (HAM) is applied as a tool for solving the system of non-linear Fredholm-Volterra integral equations. The generalized chain rule is implemented for differentiation of the non-linear kernel functions with many variables, and the non-linear problem is reduced into a sequence of known non-linear integral equa- tions. The proposed method is compared with the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) given in Yusufogli [20] and Biazar and Ghazyini [21]. Numerical results reveal that the proposed method is very effective with high accuracy and dominated the HPM.

Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1) has emerged as a critical immune checkpoint with profound implications in numerous types of cancer. Dysregulation of IDO1 has prompted considerable interest in IDO1 as a target in immuno-oncology therapy. Herein, we report novel quinazoline derivatives specifically designed to target IDO1. Based on the active site of apo-IDO1 and a clinical trial cadidate, linrodostat, we designed novel, selectively targeting cancer cell derivatives with micromolar IC50 values. Via docking study, we confirm the robust binding affinity of these quinazoline compounds to apo-IDO, firmly establishing their potential as IDO1 targeted agents. We also uncover that these compounds suppress immuno-oncology target PD-L1 in addition to IDO1. Intriguingly, compound V-d emerges as a stand out, triggering cell death through caspase-dependent and caspase-independent manners. More importantly, V-d presents it ability to hinder tumor sphere formation and re-sensitized cisplatin-resistant A2780 cells to cisplatin treatment. These findings suggest that compound V-d emerges as a promising lead candidate for the future development of immuno anticancer agents. Our study offers exciting prospects for enhanced cancer therapy. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Sediment transport prediction is essential to monitor the dynamics of a river system. The carrying capacity of a river system is greatly influenced by the deposition and aggradation of sediment particles. However, the accuracy of such predictions is subjected to various parameterization in the predictive formula. Fall velocity has been the main predictor of sediment transport prediction. The determination of fall velocity is influenced by many controlling factors such as sediment size, drag coefficient etc. Thus, selection of the best fall velocity formula is crucial for sediment transport prediction. This paper discussed the performance of various fall velocity formulas to obtain the best sediment transport prediction at the river system in Malaysia. The total bed material load formula which has been developed for Malaysian river system was utilized to test the performance of various fall velocity formulas. Seven (7) different formulas for fall velocity estimation were fitted into the total bed material load for sediment transport prediction. The best fall velocity formula was selected based on the acceptable discrepancy ratio test between the predicted total bed material load and observed total bed material load. It was found that Rubey's formula for fall velocity is best suited to be used as the predictor in the sediment transport prediction. Rubey's fall velocity formula is able to produce 56% agreement between observed and predicted values of sediment transport. Other formulas ranged from 47 - 53% agreement of the discrepancy ratio test.

Line of sight visibility analysis for foreign object debris detection system

It is challenging to monitor busy airports' runway through visual inspection to precisely detect foreign object debris. Currently, many technologies for the detection of foreign object debris are available. It has been investigated that millimeter-wave radar technology's detection capability can be one of the most effective techniques for detecting foreign object debris as it is weather-resilient. However, the positioning and height of a millimeter-wave radar pole covering the runway area, considering the existing runway infrastructure, are challenging. The task involves finding the appropriate placement and optimum height. This paper presents a novel method of line of sight visibility for placement and height of radar pole using human factor research to ensure that each point on the runway is visible from various heights of the millimeter-wave radar pole to the runway locations. Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia runway 32L/14R, has used a case study to test the visibility analysis. The visual analytic test's successful results for different millimeter-wave radar pole locations and viewing heights under a visible and invisible line of sight conditions on the runway have been verified in the field experiment.

The increase in the number of vehicles due to increase in population leads to an increase in the number of accidents. To find a design that keeps occupants as safe as possible by enhancing the energy absorption capabilities and hence decreasing the number of fatalities is taking place. Non-linear finite element is used in this study to predict new design performance and to compare with other conventional S-shaped designs. It was shown that the proposed design increased the specific energy absorption (SEA) by 265% in comparison with the conventional S-Shaped frame design with octagonal geometries and increased in SEA 16% of the S-Shaped with foam filled-square cross-sectional. In this study, the specific energy absorption will take in consideration the energy absorber used is made of mild steel.
