Many real-world complex networks arise as a result of a competition between growth and rewiring processes. Usually the initial part of the evolution is dominated by growth while the later one rather by rewiring. The initial growth allows the network to reach a certain size while rewiring to optimise its function and topology. As a model example we consider tree networks which first grow in a stochastic process of node attachment and then age in a stochastic process of local topology changes. The ageing is implemented as a Markov process that preserves the node-degree distribution. We quantify differences between the initial and aged network topologies and study the dynamics of the evolution. We implement two versions of the ageing dynamics. One is based on reshuffling of leaves and the other on reshuffling of branches. The latter one generates much faster ageing due to non-local nature of changes. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. A search for a charged Higgs boson, H ^±, produced in top-quark decays, t → H ^± b, is presented. The search targets H ^± decays into a bottom and a charm quark, H ^± → cb. The analysis focuses on a selection enriched in top-quark pair production, where one top quark decays into a leptonically decaying W boson and a bottom quark, and the other top quark decays into a charged Higgs boson and a bottom quark. This topology leads to a lepton-plus-jets final state, characterised by an isolated electron or muon and at least four jets. The search exploits the high multiplicity of jets containing b-hadrons, and deploys a neural network classifier that uses the kinematic differences between the signal and the background. The search uses a dataset of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy s = 13 TeV between 2015 and 2018 with the ATLAS detector at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, amounting to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb⁻¹. Observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits between 0.15% (0.09%) and 0.42% (0.25%) are derived for the product of branching fractions B (t → H ^± b) × B(H ^± → cb) for charged Higgs boson masses between 60 and 160 GeV, assuming the SM production of the top-quark pairs. The azimuthal anisotropies of particle yields observed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions have been traditionally considered as a strong evidence of the formation of a de-confined quark-gluon plasma produced in these collisions. However multiple recent measurements from the LHC experiments in pp and p+Pb systems show similar features as those observed in Pb+Pb collisions, indicating the possibility of the production of such a de-confined medium also in smaller collision systems. This report presents a comprehensive summary of recent ATLAS measurements in pp and p+Pb collisions as well as in Pb+Pb and Xe+Xe collisions. It includes measurements of two-particle hadron-hadron correlations in Df and Dh, with a template fitting procedure used to subtract the dijet contributions. Measurements of multi-particle cumulants using the standard cumulant method as well as a new sub-event cumulant method that suppresses the contribution of non-flow effects are discussed. Studies of longitudinal flow decorrelation and correlations between flow harmonics and mean pT of the event in Pb+Pb collisions are presented to provide deeper insight into details of the geometry of the initial state. A key open question in the study of layered superconducting nickelate films is the role that hydrogen incorporation into the lattice plays in the appearance of the superconducting state. Due to the challenges of stabilizing highly crystalline square planar nickelate films, films are prepared by the deposition of a more stable parent compound which is then transformed into the target phase via a topotactic reaction with a strongly reducing agent such as CaH2. Recent studies, both experimental and theoretical, have introduced the possibility that the incorporation of hydrogen from the reducing agent into the nickelate lattice may be critical for the superconductivity. In this work, we use secondary ion mass spectrometry to examine superconducting La1-xXxNiO2/SrTiO3 (X = Ca and Sr) and Nd6Ni5O12/NdGaO3 films, along with non-superconducting NdNiO2/SrTiO3 and (Nd,Sr)NiO2/SrTiO3. We find no evidence for extensive hydrogen incorporation across a broad range of samples, including both superconducting and non-superconducting films. Theoretical calculations indicate that hydrogen incorporation is broadly energetically unfavorable in these systems, supporting our conclusion that hydrogen incorporation is not generally required to achieve a superconducting state in layered square-planar nickelates. © 2024, CC BY.

The SIDDHARTA-2 experiment aims to perform the first measurement of the kaonic deuterium 2p → 1s x-ray transitions. The apparatus is presently installed at the interaction region of the DAΦNE electron-positron collider at the National Laboratories of Frascati (LNF-INFN), in Italy. Kaonic deuterium and kaonic hydrogen 2p → 1s x-ray transitions measurements, the latter one already performed by the SIDDHARTA collaboration, allow the determination of antikaon-nucleon scattering lengths. In the dermatology, Three-Point Checklist of Dermatology is defined and it is proved to be a sufficient screening method in the skin lesions assessments during the checking by dermatology expert. In the method there is a criterion of blue-whitish veil appearance within the lesion defined and it can be classified using a binary classifier. In the paper, we show the results of CNN application to the problem of the assessment of whether the blue-white veil is present or absent within the lesion using the pre-trained VGG19 CNN network, trained and tested on the prepared images taken from the PH2 dataset. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper reports a new kind of mathematical model for language competition dynamics using compartmental epidemiological modeling approach. The model describes the competition between two languages, say the predominant one called language 1, and the less spoken language 2, both in the same community. We distinguish three groups of population building the concerned community: one majority speaking language 1, one minority speaking language 2 and a last minority speaking neither language 1 nor language 2. The study of the proposed model includes an analysis of the evolution of the number of speakers over time. This model predicts that language 2 can inevitably disappear if the threshold parameter R is less than one. We show that our model is well-posed mathematically and linguistically. We also show that the model has basically two linguistic equilibrium points. A monolingual equilibrium point that corresponds to the case where only one language is spoken: some individuals speak only the language 1 and some others do speak neither language 1, nor language 2. A bilingual equilibrium point which corresponds to the case where all the languages are spoken: some individuals speak both languages 1 and 2, some others speak only language 1, while a third group does speak only language 2, and the last group speaks none of the two languages. In this bilingual equilibrium point, both languages coexist. Depending on the threshold parameter, we demonstrate the stability of these equilibria. The model presents on one hand, a direct bifurcation phenomenon, in which we have a stable equilibrium point without bilingual speakers when the associated basic reproduction number is less than one. On the other hand, it presents a stable bilingual equilibrium point when the number of associated basic reproductions is greater than one. Cuckoo Search (CS) is a popular algorithm used to solve numerous challenging problems. In the present work, a novel variant of CS is presented to eliminate its shortcomings. The proposed algorithm is hybridized with the naked mole rat algorithm (NMRA) to enhance the exploitative behavior of CS, and is called Mutated Adaptive Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MaCN). This new algorithm has self-adaptive properties and its key feature is to divide the solutions into multiple sections, which are often called sub-swarms. In addition, a bare-bones search mechanism is also added to enhance exploration. The use of adaptive inertia weights helps optimize the switching probability, an important CS parameter that helps to achieve a balanced operation. The proposed MaCN algorithm is tested on CEC 2005 and CEC 2014 benchmark problems. Comparative studies showed that MaCN delivers promising results in solving CEC competition benchmark problems compared to JADE, success history-based adaptive DE (SHADE), LSHADE-SPACMA and self-adaptive DE (SaDE), among others. In addition to numerical benchmarks, MaCN is used to solve the industrial engineering frame structure and a comparison with hybridization of particle swarm with passive congregation (PSOPC), shuffled frog leaping algorithm hybrid with invasive weed optimization (SFLAIWO), particle swarm ant colony optimization (PSOACO), early strategy with DE (ES-DE), and others show its superiority. In addition, the Wilcoxon rankum and the Freidmann test statistically prove the significance of the proposed MaCN algorithm. MaCN was found to score first rank for the benchmarks. The application of the MaCN algorithm to solve the design problems of the suggests that the best new results are obtained for all test cases. © The Author(s) 2025.
