The LHCb is a single arm forward spectrometer designed to study heavy-flavour physics at the LHC. Its very precise tracking and excellent particle identification play currently a major role in providing the worldbest measurements of the Unitary Triangle parameters. In this paper, selected results of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) angle γ measurements, with special attention for B → DK decays family, obtained at the LHCb, are presented.
A mathematical model of the investigated semiconductor core-shell nanowire transistor with all-around gate, computation methods and calculated transport characteristics of the device are presented. The influence of ap...

This article presents results of research on the issue of the effect of arrangement of sounds in a piece of music on the perception of a listener having developed relative musical ear. Existence of the postulated effect is not obvious and requires empirical confirmation. On the other hand, obtaining such confirmation creates the possibility of an alternative definition of the term 'tonality' used in the context of the aforementioned arrangement of audio material of a composition. After abandoning the major-minor system in Western music at the beginning of the twentieth century, a need for a redefinition of the term arised, so as it was possible to use the description and classification of other new types of arrangement. Definitions proposed by music theorists as well as by the composers themselves are generally either quite strongly associated with the traditional sense of tonality - not giving the opportunity for more synthetic formulations and not going beyond extended tonality of the major-minor system in the final stage of its development - or so general that basically worthless because they include almost every kind of arrangement. Obtaining confirmation of the hypothesis would allow the division to tonal sound waveforms in terms of the proposed understanding of tonality - i.e. those that have a significant impact on the current perception and those that do not show such an effect, or their effect is weak. The article discusses generally the method of detecting the impact of arrangement of sounds on the perception of auditory sensations and presents results of preliminary studies on a selected group of several listeners. The experimental material presented in the article seems to confirm clearly the existence of the postulated impact, thus opening the way for further research in this area.

Electron tunneling through a quantum dot embedded in a nanowire was studied by the transfer matrix method. A smoothness of the interfaces was taken into account using the analytical parametrization of the potential profile. We calculated the current-voltage characteristics and discussed the effect of the spacer, which separates the quantum dot from the contacts. We found that the tunneling current peak possesses the asymmetric Fano resonance shape in the absence of spacer. The results of calculations agree with the experimental data.

We propose a new technique for creating a space-efficient index for large repetitive text collections, such as pangenomic databases containing sequences of many individuals from the same species. We combine two recent techniques from this area: Wheeler graphs (Gagie et al., 2017) and prefix-free parsing (PFP, Boucher et al., 2019). Wheeler graphs are a general framework encompassing several indexes based on the Burrows-Wheeler transform (BWT), such as the FM-index. Wheeler graphs admit a succinct representation which can be further compacted by employing the idea of tunnelling, which exploits redundancies in the form of parallel, equally-labelled paths called blocks that can be merged into a single path. The problem of finding the optimal set of blocks for tunnelling, i.e. the one that minimizes the size of the resulting Wheeler graph, is known to be NP-complete and remains the most computationally challenging part of the tunnelling process. To find an adequate set of blocks in less time, we propose a new method based on the prefix-free parsing (PFP). The idea of PFP is to divide the input text into phrases of roughly equal sizes that overlap by a fixed number of characters. The phrases are then sorted lexicographically. The original text is represented by a sequence of phrase ranks (the parse) and a list of all used phrases (the dictionary). In repetitive texts, the PFP representation of the text is generally much shorter than the original since individual phrases are used many times in the parse, thus reducing the size of the dictionary. To speed up the block selection for tunnelling, we apply the PFP to obtain the parse and the dictionary of the original text, tunnel the Wheeler graph of the parse using existing heuristics and subsequently use this tunnelled parse to construct a compact Wheeler graph of the original text. Compared with constructing a Wheeler graph from the original text without PFP, our method is much faster and uses less memory on collections of

The problem of spin-dependent transport of electrons through a metallic nanostructure is considered. The system consists of non-magnetic metal wire with two magnetic impurities and is connected to two ferromagnetic leads. The differential conductance is calculated by using the transfer matrix method. The spin polarization of the conductance is also obtained. It was found that this polarization is dependent on the spin configuration of magnetic impurities. This dependence can be controlled by the applied bias voltage.
