The results of two different clusterization methods applied to six social networks are presented. It is shown that elements classified together by the differential equation method, are also classified to the one community by the Newman method. It is also shown that even though for all analysed networks the cumulative node degree distribution is described by the stretched-exponential law, the distribution of the nodes among different functional types is not the same for all networks.

With traditional Question Answering (QA) systems having reached nearly satisfactory performance, an emerging challenge is the development of successful Interactive Question Answering (IQA) systems. Important IQA subtasks are the identification of a dialogue-dependent typology of Follow Up Questions (FU Qs), automatic detection of the identified types, and the development of different context fusion strategies for each type. In this paper, we show how a system relying on shallow cues to similarity between utterances in a narrow dialogue context and other simple information sources, embedded in a machine learning framework, can improve FU Q answering performance by implicitly detecting different FU Q types and learning different context fusion strategies to help re-ranking their candidate answers. © Springer-Verlag 2009.

A test system developed for ABCN-25 for ATLAS Inner Detector Upgrade is presented. The system is based on commercial off the shelf DAQ components by National Instruments and foreseen to aid in chip characterization and hybrid/module development complementing full custom VME based setups. The key differences from the point of software development are presented, together with guidelines for developing high performance LabVIEW code. Some real-world benchmarks will also be presented together with chip test results. The presented tests show good agreement of test results between the test setups used in different sites, as well as agreement with design specifications of the chip.

Non-heme Fe is a conservative component of the Q-type photosynthetic reaction centers but its function remains unknown. Applying Mössbauer spectroscopy we show that in Rhodospirillum rubrum the non-heme Fe exists mostly in a ferrous low spin state. The binding of Cd2+ ions in the vicinity of the quinone-Fe complex changes the high spin state of the non-heme Fe into a low spin one characterized by hyperfine parameters similar to those obtained for the non-heme Fe low spin state in untreated reaction centers, as confirmed by Mössbauer measurements. The nuclear inelastic scattering of synchrotron radiation experiments show that the contribution of vibrations at low energies, between 3-15 meV, activated at 240 K are damped in the bacterial reaction centers treated with CdCl2. No influence of Cd2+ ions is observed on the soft vibrational states at 60 K. These results suggest that binding of cadmium cations within the reaction centers may enhance decoupling of the non-heme Fe from the surrounding protein matrix at temperatures higher than 200 K, what can explain the slowing down of electron transfer between the QA and QB quinones by Cd2+.

The systematic investigation of the lattice dynamics from bulk to a single atomic layer of material was a great experimental challenge until now. Recently, nuclear inelastic scattering has been introduced as a unique technique capable of determining the density of phonon states of nanoscale materials in-situ with a depth resolution of one atomic layer. This became possible by setting up a dedicated ultrahigh vacuum system for samples growth and characterization directly at the nuclear resonance beamline ID18 of the ESRF. The new instrument allowed for systematic investigation of the evolution of the density of phonon states of iron from the bulk to a single atomic layer. The isotopic selectivity of the nuclear resonance absorption was employed to experimentally determine the atomic vibrations at and near the Fe(110) surface with a monolayer sensitivity. The experimental achievements stimulated a rapid progress of the ab-initio calculations of surface phonons.

Electron transfer through a multiterminal quantum ring: Magnetic forces and elastic scattering effects

We study electron transport through a semiconductor quantum ring with one input and two output terminals for an elastic scatterer present within one of the arms of the ring. We demonstrate that the scatterer not only introduces asymmetry in the transfer probability to the two output leads but also reduces the visibility of the Aharonov-Bohm conductance oscillations. This reduction occurs in spite of the phase coherence of the elastic scattering and is due to interruption of the electron circulation around the ring by the potential defect. The results are in qualitative agreement with a recent experiment by Strambini et al. [Phys. Rev. B 79, 195443 (2009)]. We also indicate that the magnetic symmetry of the sum of conductance of both the output leads as obtained in the experiment can be understood as resulting from the invariance of backscattering to the input lead with respect to the magnetic field orientation.

The purpose of this paper is to study the axiomatic approaches of rough set approximation operators in fuzzy formal contexts. We first define four types of fuzzy conceptual knowledge system, and then the axiomatic characterization for rough approximations operators is presented. This work reports application of core-shell nanoparticles in photovoltaic cells. These nanoparticles were fabricated form silicon carbide core covered with conductive form of polyaniline. The nanoparticles were dispersed in the active layer of the cell. It was found that this modification raised quantum efficiency of the photovoltaic cell by factor of three in comparison to a test cell without nanoparticles. ©2009 IEEE.

The purpose of this work was synthesis of a new copolymer consisting of poly(N-vinylcarbazole) and pyrazoloquinoline based dye, suitable to provide electroluminescence in the wavelength range corresponding to the blue. The obtained material was tested in a simple, single layer electroluminescent device. It were studied both its electronic and optical performances. It was found that the maximum of electroluminescence spectrum can be tuned within the wavelength of 450 nm and 490 nm (what reads in terms of colours as the blue and the cyan) by simple variation of the dye content. ©2009 IEEE.
