Van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures have attracted much attention due to their distinctive optical, electrical, and thermal properties, demonstrating promising potential in areas such as photocatalysis, ultrafast photonics, and free electron radiation devices. Particularly, they are promising platforms for studying thermionic emission. Here, we illustrate that using vdW heterostructure-based thermionic emission can enhance heat transfer in vacuum devices. As a proof of concept, we demonstrate that this approach offers a promising solution to the long-standing overheating issue in X-ray tubes. Specifically, we show that the saturated target temperature of a 2000 W X-ray tube can be reduced from around 1200℃ to 490℃. Additionally, our study demonstrates that by reducing the height of the Schottky barrier formed in the vdW heterostructures, the thermionic cooling performance can be enhanced. What are the fundamental limits and advantages of using a catalyst to aid thermodynamic transformations between quantum systems? In this work, we answer this question by focusing on transformations between energy-incoherent states under the most general energy-conserving interactions among the system, the catalyst, and a thermal environment. The sole constraint is that the catalyst must return unperturbed and uncorrelated with the other subsystems. More precisely, we first characterise the set of states to which a given initial state can thermodynamically evolve (the catalysable future) or from which it can evolve (the catalysable past) with the help of a strict catalyst. Secondly, we derive lower bounds on the dimensionality required for the existence of catalysts under thermal process, along with bounds on the catalyst's state preparation. Finally, we quantify the catalytic advantage in terms of the volume of the catalysable future and demonstrate its utility in an exemplary task of generating entanglement using thermal resources. © 2024, CC BY.

Strong-coupling superconductivity of SrIr2 and SrRh2: Phonon engineering of metallic Ir and Rh

Experimental and theoretical studies on superconductivity in SrIr2 and SrRh2 Laves phases are presented. The measured resistivity, heat capacity, and magnetic susceptibility confirm the superconductivity of these compounds with Tc=6.07 and 5.41 K, respectively. Electronic structure calculations show that the Fermi surface is mostly contributed by 5d (4d) electrons of Ir (Rh), with Sr atoms playing the role of electron donors. The effect of the spin-orbit coupling is analyzed and found to be important in both materials. Lattice dynamics and electron-phonon coupling (EPC) are studied and the strong electron-phonon interaction is found, contributed mostly by the low-frequency Ir and Rh vibrations. The enhancement of EPC, when compared to weakly coupled metallic Ir and Rh, is explained by the strong modifications in the propagation of phonons in the network of Ir (Rh) tetrahedrons, which are the building blocks of the Laves phase, and originate from the metallic fcc structures of elemental iridium and rhodium.

We calculate the nth order of 2k-particle azimuthal cumulants cn{2k} based on transverse momentum conservation (TMC) and collective flow vn (n=2,3). We demonstrate that the TMC effect only leads to a nonzero cn{2k} with the sign of (−1)nk and the magnitude inversely proportional to (N−2k)nk. The interplay between TMC and collective flow can change the signs of c2{4}, c3{2}, and c3{4} at some values of multiplicity N, which could provide a good probe to study the onset of collectivity and search for the substructure of proton in small colliding systems.

We present results on CPT symmetry tests in decays of positronium performed with the precision at the level of 10−4, and positronium images determined with the prototype of the J-PET tomograph. The first full scale prototype apparatus consists of 192 plastic scintillator strips read out from both ends with vacuum tube photomultipliers. Signals produced by photomultipliers are probed in the amplitude domain and are digitized by FPGA based readout boards in triggerless mode. The Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) and Landau-Lifshitz (LL) equations play an essential role for describing the dynamics of magnetization in solids. While a quantum analog of the LL dynamics has been proposed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 147201 (2013)], the corresponding quantum version of LLG remains unknown. Here, we propose such a quantum LLG equation that inherently conserves purity of the quantum state. We examine the quantum LLG dynamics of a dimer consisting of two interacting spin-12 particles. Our analysis reveals that, in the case of ferromagnetic coupling, the evolution of initially uncorrelated spins mirrors the classical LLG dynamics. However, in the antiferromagnetic scenario, we observe pronounced deviations from classical behavior, underscoring the unique dynamics of becoming a spinless state, which is nonlocally correlated. Moreover, when considering spins that are initially entangled, our study uncovers an unusual form of revival-type quantum correlation dynamics, which differs significantly from what is typically seen in open quantum systems.

The system is oriented to a particular class of operations, and, at the same time, it is most convenient for *** system has intelligent haptic feedback identical to what a surgeon would experience in an operating room performing classical endovascular surgery on cerebral *** LevshAi system makes extensive use of artificial intelligence. For example, artificial intelligence is used to select the best surgical tactics, correct the surgeon’s tremor, identify critical situations during the operation, and simulate the patient’s vessels in 3 *** LevshAi system is equipped with a training personalized intelligent vascular simulator. The personalized intelligent vascular simulator allows surgeons to practice on the 3D simulator and choose the best tactics before the operation.

Electrocatalytic Reduction of Nitrate to Ammonia on Low-Cost Manganese-Incorporated Co3o4 Nanotubes

Spinel oxides, especially Co3O4, have been considered as ideal electrocatalysts for electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction (e-NO3RR). However, their application in e-NO3RR is still limited because of relatively low activity and selectivity under high potentials. Herein, we present that the incorporation of manganese (Mn) into nanoscale Co3O4 lattice can solve the issue, which shows high activity and selectivity in e-NO3RR. The catalyst demonstrates a remarkable e-NO3RR activity with a high ammonia yield rate of 35 mg h-1 cm-2 and excellent selectivity with a Faraday efficiency for ammonia up to 99.5% in neutral media, which are much better than those of transition-metal oxides catalysts. Our calculations further show that the replacement of Co by Mn can tune the adsorption behavior of intermediates, and thus reduces the limiting potential of e-NO3RR. We believe that the findings provide an insightful guidance to engineer the spinel oxides for enhanced activity and selectivity towards ideal products. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
