In recent years Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are reshaping the landscape of e-commerce and retail. Using advanced analytics, behavioral modeling, and inference, representatives of these industries can leverage collected data and increase their market performance. To perform assortment optimization – one of the most fundamentals problems in retail – one has to identify products that are present in the competitors’ portfolios. It is not possible without effective product matching. The paper deals with finding identical products in the offer of different retailers. The task is performed using a text-mining approach, assuming that the data may contain incomplete information. Besides the description of the algorithm, the results for real-world data fetched from the offers of two consumer electronics retailers are being demonstrated. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Numerous complex situations arising from science and engineering are modeled by integral-differential equations (IDEs). Examples of these situations include mathematical modeling of infectious diseases, epidemics, circuit analysis, voltage drop equations, computational neuroscience, intergalactic modeling, and many more. To explain the mathematical structure and the behavior of various phenomena in nature, two equations with simple mathematical structure namely: the (1 + 1)-dimensional integro-differential Ito equation (IDIE) and the (2 + 1)-dimensional integro-differential Sawada-Kotera equation (IDSKE) are considered. In this analytical investigation, we have conducted an in-depth enquiry to trace the distinctive closed form progressive wave solutions of these proposed models using the ([Formula presented])-expansion method. The graphical forms of the acquired solutions have been displayed in the bell-shaped soliton, singular periodic, and anti-kink shape soliton solutions after the values for the free parameters were specified. The two non-algebraic solutions, named, exponential and trigonometric function solutions, have emerged by applying our proposed method. Based on the general findings of our investigation for different parametric values, the attained wave solutions revealed can keep a vital role for natural balances and can be engaged in modern physical applications. The parameters have a visible effect on the wave amplitude and the swiftness of the traveling wave. The executed outcomes are innovative and have monumental applications in the present research, especially in the fields of theoretical physics, astrophysics, plasma physics, particle physics, theory of relativity, advance quantum mechanics, string theory, and geotechnical engineering. © 2023 The Author(s)

Primordial black holes (PBHs) and the violation of the null energy condition (NEC) have significant implications for our understanding of the very early universe. We present a novel approach to generate PBHs via the NEC violation in a single-field inflationary scenario. In our scenario, the universe transitions from a first slow-roll inflation stage with a Hubble parameter H = Hinf1 to a second slow-roll inflation stage with H = Hinf2 Hinf1, passing through an intermediate stage of NEC violation. The NEC violation naturally enhances the primordial scalar power spectrum at a certain wavelength, leading to the production of PBHs with masses and abundances of observational interest. We also investigate the phenomenological signatures of scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) resulting from the enhanced density perturbations. Our work highlights the potential of utilizing a combination of PBHs, SIGWs, and primordial gravitational waves as a valuable probe for studying NEC violation during inflation, opening up new avenues for exploring the early universe. © 2023, CC BY.

Quantum emitters in solid-state crystals have recently attracted a lot of attention due to their simple applicability in optical quantum technologies. The polarization of single photons generated by quantum emitters is one of the key parameters that play a crucial role in the applications, such as quantum computation that uses the indistinguishability of photons. However, the degree of single photon polarization is typically quantified using time-averaged photoluminescence intensity of single emitters, which provides limited information about the dipole properties in solids. In this work, we use single defects in hexagonal boron nitride and nanodiamond as efficient room-temperature single photon sources to reveal the origin and the temporal evolution of dipole orientation in solid-state quantum emitters. The angle of excitation and emission dipoles relative to the crystal axes are determined experimentally and then calculated using density functional theory, which results in characteristic angles for every specific defect that can be used as an efficient tool for defect identification and understanding their atomic structure. Moreover, the temporal polarization dynamics reveal a strongly modified linear polarization visibility that depends on the excited state decay time of individual excitation. This effect can be traced back potentially to the excitation of excess charges in the local crystal environment. Understanding such hidden time-dependent mechanisms can further be used to improve the performance of polarization-sensitive experiments, in particular that of quantum communication with single photon emitters. © 2023, CC BY.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the process by which human-designed systems analyse available data and make judgements based on predetermined criteria in order to accomplish particular objectives. The incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked a deep ethical conversation among key players, including tech companies, businesses, educational institutions, and legislators. AI’s ethical problems have prompted the creation of ethical frameworks that aim to control its application for the good of society, the defence of human rights, and the maintenance of individual autonomy and privacy. This paper provides a critical evaluation and summary of the fundamental concepts behind the use of artificial intelligence, with a focus on the GDPR’s (General Data Protection Regulation) approach. The rights of data subjects, data protection legislation, and data subjects’ permission are crucial considerations in the context of “privacy by design.”

Integer factorization is a significant problem, with implications for the security of widely-used cryptographic schemes. No efficient classical algorithm for polynomial-time integer factorization has been found despite extensive research. Although Peter Shor’s breakthrough quantum algorithm offers a viable solution, current limitations of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers hinder its practical implementation. To address this, researchers have explored alternative methods for factorization suitable for NISQ devices. One such method is the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, which treats factoring as an optimization problem defined over binary bits, resulting in various problematic aspects. In this paper, we explore the Func-QAOA approach for factorization, which premises overcoming some of the limitations of previous approaches and allows the incorporation of more advanced factorization techniques. After reviewing the most promising quantum implementations for integer arithmetics, we present a few illustrative examples to demonstrate the efficacy of the Func-QAOA approach and discuss methods to reduce the search space to speed up the optimization process. In a world where Quantum Networks are rapidly becoming a reality, the development of the Quantum Internet is gaining increasing interest. Nevertheless, modern quantum networks are still in the early stages of development and have limited capacity to distribute resources among different users – a constraint that needs to be taken into account. In this work we aim to investigate these constraints, using a novel setup for implementing Quantum Random Access Codes (QRACs), communication protocols known for their quantum advantage over their classical counterparts and semi- device-independent self-testing applications. Our QRAC states, made for the first time using weak coherent pulses instead of entangled single photons, allow us to experimentally test our encoding and decoding strategy from the resource allocation perspective. Moreover, by emulating a coexistent classical communication, we test the resilience of our implementation in presence of noise. The achieved results represent a significant milestone both for theoretical studies of quantum resource allocation and for the implementation of quantum infrastructures capable of coexisting with regular telecommunication networks. We present a design and analysis of nonlinear distortions for low-area integrated neural preamplifier with pseudoresistor-based AC coupling. We evaluate the distortions as a function of frequency, signal amplitude and sizing of the pseudoresistors. We describe a preamplifier design in 0.18 μm SOI CMOS technology with Total Harmonic Distortions (THD) below 1% in the full range of frequencies and amplitudes of extracellular neural signals. The circuit noise is 5.82 μV rms in the Local Field Potential (LFP) frequency range (1-300 Hz) and 4.45 μV rms in the action potential (AP) range (300 Hz-5 kHz). The preamplifier occupies silicon area of 0.0046 mm and is suitable for recording systems with >10,000 channels per cm of the chip area, providing high-fidelity amplification for large-scale neural interfaces. © 2019 IEEE.

Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) have received enormous attention due to unique physi-chemical properties, but are rarely reported for applications in electrically conductive hydrogels (ECHs) arising from low intrinsic conductivity and poor dispersion. Herein, we propose an innovative strategy to prepare highly conductive and mechanically robust ECHs by in situ growing Ni/Co bimetallic ZIFs within the polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate dual network. 2-methylimidazole (MeIM) ligands are creatively copolymerized with pyrrole monomers to form Py-co-MeIM conductive fillers and improve the conjugation degree of the polymer chains and thereby increase the conductivity of the hydrogel. Meanwhile, MeIM ligands act as anchor points for the in-situ formation of bimetallic ZIFs by trapping targeted metal ions, effectively avoiding phase-to-phase interfacial resistance and ensuring a uniform distribution in the hydrogel network. Due to the synergism of Ni/Co bimetallic ZIFs, the PZPS hydrogel exhibits a high areal capacitance, promising for flexible energy storage devices. In addition, the hydrogel shows excellent mechanical strength and toughness, a high gauge factor and a pressure sensitivity over an extremely wide stress range when used as flexible wearable strain/pressure sensors. This study provides new insights to incorporating highly conductive and uniformly dispersed ZIFs into hydrogels for flexible wearable electronics. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
