We study the propagation of a domain wall (kink) of the ϕ4 model in a radially symmetric environment defined by a gravity source. This source introduces a Schwarzschild-like geometry. We introduce an effective model that accurately describes the dynamics of the kink center. This description works well even outside the perturbation region, i.e., even for large masses of the gravitating object. We observed that such a spherical domain wall surrounding a star-type object inevitably “collapses,” i.e., shrinks in radius toward the origin and offer an understanding of the latter phenomenology. The relevant analysis is presented for a circular domain wall and a spherical one.

Structural superlubricity describes the state of greatly reduced friction between incommensurate atomically flat surfaces. Theory predicts that, in the superlubric state, the remaining friction sensitively depends on the exact structural configuration. In particular the friction of amorphous and crystalline structures for, otherwise, identical interfaces should be markedly different. Here, we measure friction of antimony nanoparticles on graphite as a function of temperature between 300 and 750 K. We observe a characteristic change of friction when passing the amorphous-crystalline phase transition above 420 K, which shows irreversibility upon cooling. The friction data is modeled with a combination of an area scaling law and a Prandtl-Tomlinson type temperature activation. We find that the characteristic scaling factor γ, which is a fingerprint of the structural state of the interface, is reduced by 20% when passing the phase transition. This validates the concept that structural superlubricity is determined by the effectiveness of atomic force canceling processes.

Following the introduction of the socio-cognitive caste-based algorithms into the classic evolutionary metaheuristics, in this paper we focus on similar task regarding agent-based universal optimization methods. We tackle EMAS and DE algorithms and enrich them also with TOPSIS-inspired mechanism. Besides giving the details of the methods and the background, we present preliminary results after applying those techniques to solving the problem of optimization of time-delay system model.

Rarity meters are incorporated by industry and discursive by academia. Rarity, as an intuitive term, attracted numerous researchers to present their own view of it. While there is existing literature on comparing rarity meters, it requires access to NFT collection data, which can be challenging for researchers without a background in blockchain technology. This has created a demand for an easily accessible rarity meter benchmark. In this paper, we introduce the Rating over all Rarities (ROAR) benchmark, which includes data from one hundred popular NFT collections from the Ethereum blockchain, implemented a weighted correlation-based performance measurement function, as well as four state-of-the-art rarity meters (***, Kramer, OpenRarity, and NFTGo), along with a new rarity meter called ROAR. Our experiments show that the ROAR rarity meter, an ensemble of the other four meters, outperforms its competitors, with *** and Kramer as runner-ups. The ROAR benchmark is a tool for examination and testing of rarity meter ideas, and we challenge readers to develop models that can outperform the ROAR rarity meter.

Metaheuristics are universal optimization algorithms which should be used for solving difficult problems, unsolvable by classic approaches. In this paper we aim at constructing novel socio-cognitive metaheuristic based on castes, and apply several versions of this algorithm to optimization of time-delay system model. Besides giving the background and the details of the proposed algorithms we apply them to optimization of selected variants of the problem and discuss the results.
