The work involves low-loss waveguide layers for applications in planar evanescent wave sensors. Using the sol-gel method and dip-coating technique, crack-free SiOx:TiOy composite layers with the refractive indices of ∼1.65 in visible spectra range (632.8 nm) were produced. Layers with a thickness of approx. 220-360nm were produced by a single coating of substrates. And by multiple coatings of substrates, SiOx:TiOy composite layers with a thickness of up to 1000 nm were produced. As precursors of silica and titania, tetraethyl orthosilicate and titania (IV) ethoxide were applied, respectively. The produced layers demonstrated good waveguide properties in the Vis spectral range. Using the spectroscopic ellipsometry method, the dispersion characteristics of the refractive index of the developed layers were determined. Spectrophotometric tests validated their optical homogeneity. Using the Tauc method, the widths of optical band gaps were determined, and their high values (Eg>3.7) attest to amorphous nature of the layer material. The FT-IR studies attested to the presence of Si-O-Ti bonds, which are an attribute of amorphous SiOx:TiOy composites. The tests of surface morphology of the SiOx:TiOy layers, using atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and optical profilometry, confirmed their high smoothness. Light-by-light (LbyL) scattering, γγ → γγ, is a rare Standard Model (SM) process, also proposed as a sensitive channel to study physics beyond the SM. In these proceedings, we perform a statistical combination of existing γγ → γγ cross section measurements at the LHC with the aim of checking the consistency with different SM predictions. Using a simplified set of assumptions, we find the averaged result of 115 ± 19 nb, consistent with SM predictions within two standard deviations. For the first time, we also consider the contribution from the ηb(1S) meson production to the diphoton invariant mass distribution. © 2023 Jagiellonian University. All rights reserved.

Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected local magnetic solitons that are promising for storage, logic or general computing applications. In this work, we demonstrate that we can use a skyrmion device based on [W/CoFeB/MgO]10 multilayers for three-dimensional magnetic field sensing enabled by spin-orbit torques (SOT). We stabilize isolated chiral skyrmions and stripe domains in the multilayers, as shown by magnetic force microscopy images and micromagnetic simulations. We perform magnetic transport measurements to show that we can sense both in-plane and out-of-plane magnetic fields by means of a differential measurement scheme in which the symmetry of the SOT leads to cancelation of the DC offset. With the magnetic parameters obtained by vibrating sample magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance measurements, we perform finite-temperature micromagnetic simulations, where we investigate the fundamental origin of the sensing signal. We identify the topological transformation between skyrmions, stripes and type-II bubbles that leads to a change in the resistance that is read-out by the anomalous Hall effect. Our study presents a novel application for skyrmions, where a differential measurement sensing concept is applied to quantify external magnetic fields paving the way towards more energy efficient applications in skyrmionics based spintronics. © 2024, CC BY.

Application of the path optimization method to a discrete spin system

The path optimization method, which is proposed to control the sign problem in quantum field theories with continuous degrees of freedom by machine learning, is applied to a spin model with discrete degrees of freedom. The path optimization method is applied by replacing the spins with dynamical variables via the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation, and the sum with the integral. The one-dimensional (Lenz-)Ising model with a complex coupling constant is used as a laboratory for the sign problem in the spin model. The average phase factor is enhanced by the path optimization method, indicating that the method can weaken the sign problem. This study emphases on the top management empowerments to internal auditors, namely, general qualification, electronic qualification and independence, affecting quality of electronic internal audits in the Jordanian Listed Service Companies. This paper used 144 usable questionnaires from internal auditors in the Jordanian listed service companies. The gathered data were analysed utilizing ``Statistical Package for Social sciences (SPSS)''. The results reveal that general qualification, electronic qualification and independence have a significant effect on the quality of electronic internal audits, as supported by the resource-based view. Due to the importance of the service companies’ sector in the context of Jordan, the results are helpful for the internal audit profession and decision makers in offering new legislation for the internal audit profession. Future research may consider other factors that may hinder the quality of electronic internal audits, such as audit task complexity or organizational culture. © 2023 The Author(s)

We study quantum hypothesis testing between orthogonal states under restricted local measurements in the many-copy scenario. For testing arbitrary multipartite entangled pure state against its orthogonal complement state via the local operation and classical communication (LOCC) operation, we prove that the optimal average error probability always decays exponentially in the number of copies. Second, we provide a sufficient condition for the LOCC operations to achieve the same performance as the positive-partial-transpose (PPT) operations. We further show that testing a maximally entangled state against its orthogonal complement and testing extremal Werner states both fulfill the above-mentioned condition. Hence, we determine the explicit expressions for the optimal average error probability, the optimal trade-off between the type-I and type-II errors, and the associated Chernoff, Stein, Hoeffding, and strong converse exponents. Then, we show an infinite asymptotic separation between the separable (SEP) and PPT operations by providing a pair of states constructed from an unextendible product basis (UPB). The quantum states can be distinguished perfectly by PPT operations, while the optimal error probability, with SEP operations, admits an exponential lower bound. On the technical side, we prove this result by providing a quantitative version of the well-known statement that the tensor product of UPBs is a UPB. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Improving efficiency of the path optimization method for a gauge theory

We investigate efficiency of a gauge-covariant neural network and an approximation of the Jacobian in optimizing the complexified integration path toward evading the sign problem in lattice field theories. For the construction of the complexified integration path, we employ the path optimization method. The 2-dimensional U(1) gauge theory with the complex gauge coupling constant is used as a laboratory to evaluate the efficiency. It is found that the gauge-covariant neural network, which is composed of the Stout-like smearing, can enhance the average phase factor, as the gauge-invariant input does. For the approximation of the Jacobian, we test the most drastic case in which we perfectly drop the Jacobian during the learning process. It reduces the numerical cost of the Jacobian calculation from O(N3) to O(1), where N means the number of degrees of freedom of the theory. The path optimization using this Jacobian approximation still enhances the average phase factor at expense of a slight increase of the statistical error. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Structural, electronic and optical properties of BaTiO3 (BTO), CoFe2O4 (CFO) and their nanocomposites are presented. The XRD spectra of composites exhibited the superposed peak patterns of individual compounds with a consistent shift from BTO to CFO phase with the increase in CFO proportion. The XPS analysis revealed a lower concentration of Oxygen vacancies in the composite samples as compared to that in pure CFO. This finding is also confirmed by the consistent transformation of Co from +2 state in CFO to +3 state in the composite samples. The UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed that optical absorption of BTO is limited to the UV regime, however, CFO exhibited the absorption in visible and infrared (IR) region. However, after the formation of BTO-CFO composite, the optical absorption was broadened from UV to IR regions. The magnitude of absorption was further enhanced by increasing the CFO content in the composites. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Authenticated Encryption (AE) is the latest cryptographic algorithm standard introduced through CAESAR (Com-petition for Authenticated Encryption: Security, Applicability, and Robustness). AE schemes provide a process for simultaneously achieving the security goals of confidentiality and integrity assurance. The constructions of authentication encryption is secure and efficient to protect the modern electronic information systems. In this research paper, we proposed an Improved AEGIS-128 Algorithm (i-AEGIS-128) for improving the standard AEGIS-128 algorithm to enhance the performance in which quarter round-based AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is used for the encryption and decryption process. The proposed i-AEGIS-128 is based on an AEGIS-128 AES-round permutation modification for hardware implementation. The Results of i-AEGIS-128 on Intel(R)Core(TM) i7-3700 Processor running at 3.40 GHz speed with 16GB of RAM using C/C++ and HDL (Hardware Description Language) languages and platforms to determine the encryption and decryption time, throughput processing unit memory during encryption and decryption. Finally we compared the efficiency and power analysis of the hardware. The i-AEGIS-128 algorithm relies on the use of ¼ AES-round in authentication encryption to reduce the area consumed during processing, perform fast encryption and decryption, use less power and provide the best efficiency.

The number of sensors is constantly increasing as a result of the urgent need for smart homes, factories, hospitals, military facilities, etc. Consequently, the energy consumption of these mostly battery-driven devices has increased, and due to their continuous work without stopping, it became necessary to think about and study to reduce energy consumption. In this paper, we are suggesting reducing energy consumption by establishing a schedule to turn the IoT sensors on and off according to the user demand and under their control. This research proposed a different On/Off time scenario when sensors are distributed as groups, each connected to gateways (Microcontrollers), which in turn are connected to the main server via a wireless connection, the Microcontrollers continuously check the readings sent by these sensors. The results showed the proposed algorithm increased the residual energy of the network by assigning sleeping intervals depending on the covered area and the number of neighboring nodes.
