Breast cancer is one of the most common causes of death among women worldwide. Early detection helps in reducing the number of deaths. Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) is a newer approach for breast screening, which has many advantages over handheld mammography such as safety, speed, and higher detection rate of breast cancer. Tumor detection, segmentation, and classification are key components in the analysis of medical images, especially challenging in the context of 3D ABUS due to the significant variability in tumor size and shape, unclear tumor boundaries, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. The lack of publicly accessible, well-labeled ABUS datasets further hinders the advancement of systems for breast tumor analysis. Addressing this gap, we have organized the inaugural Tumor Detection, Segmentation, and Classification Challenge on Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound 2023 (TDSC-ABUS2023). This initiative aims to spearhead research in this field and create a definitive benchmark for tasks associated with 3D ABUS image analysis. In this paper, we summarize the top-performing algorithms from the challenge and provide critical analysis for ABUS image examination. Maximum-likelihood estimation in ptychography in the presence of Poisson-Gaussian noise statistics

Optical measurements often exhibit mixed Poisson-Gaussian noise statistics, which hampers image quality, particularly under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Computational imaging falls short in such situations when solely Poissonian noise statistics are assumed. In response to this challenge, we define a loss function that explicitly incorporates this mixed noise nature. By using maximum-likelihood estimation, we devise a practical method to account for camera readout noise in gradient-based ptychography optimization. Our results, based on both experimental and numerical data, demonstrate that this approach outperforms the conventional one, enabling enhanced image reconstruction quality under challenging noise conditions through a straightforward methodological adjustment. We introduce a notion of non-local perimeter which is defined through an arbitrary positive Borel measure on Rd which integrates the function 1 ∧ |x|. Such definition of non-local perimeter encompasses a wide range of perimeters which have been already studied in the literature, including fractional perimeters and anisotropic fractional perimeters. The main part of the article is devoted to the study of the asymptotic behaviour of non-local perimeters. Perovskites with Bi or Pb on the A site host a number of interesting and yet to be understood phenomena such as negative thermal expansion in BiNiO3. We employ hard x-ray photoemission spectroscopy of Ni 2p core level as well as valence band to probe the electronic structure of BiNiO3 and PbNiO3. The experimental results supported by theoretical calculations using dynamical mean-field theory reveal essentially identical electronic structure of the Ni-O subsystem typical of Ni2+ charge-transfer insulators. The two materials are distinguished by filling of the Bi(Pb)-O antibonding states in the vicinity of the Fermi level, which is responsible for the Bi disproportionation in BiNiO3 at ambient pressure and absence of similar behavior in PbNiO3. The present experiments provide evidence for this conclusion by revealing the presence/absence of Bi/Pb 6s states at the top of the valence band in the two materials. © 2023, CC BY.

A fixed-time stable forward-backward dynamical system for solving generalized monotone inclusions

We propose a forward-backward splitting dynamical system for solving inclusion problems of the form 0 ∈ A(x) + B(x) in Hilbert spaces, where A is a maximal operator and B is a single-valued operator. Involved operators are assumed to satisfy a generalized monotonicity condition, which is weaker than the standard monotone assumptions. Under mild conditions on parameters, we establish the fixed-time stability of the proposed dynamical system. In addition, we consider an explicit forward Euler discretization of the dynamical system leading to a new forward backward algorithm for which we present the convergence analysis. Applications to other optimization problems such as Constrained Optimization Problems (COPs), Mixed Variational Inequalities (MVIs), and Variational Inequalities (VIs) are presented and some numerical examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Many strategies have been proposed to mitigate programming plagiarism and collusion. However, the effectiveness can vary across learning environments due to different cultural and/or geographical backgrounds. A few specific studies have been conducted to provide a better picture about the matter in particular countries, but none of them focus on a developing country. This paper proposes a country-specific study for Indonesia, a developing country. Specifically, it summarizes student perceptions of programming plagiarism and collusion on 345 students from 16 universities. This paper also presents a list of strategies for mitigating programming plagiarism and collusion in six universities. Finally, it highlights remaining issues and recommends some practical solutions.

Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) techniques have shown great potential in fabricating nanoscale structures endowed with exotic quantum properties achieved through various manipulations of atoms and molecules. However, precise control requires extensive domain knowledge, which is not necessarily transferable to new systems and cannot be readily extended to large-scale operations. Therefore, efficient and autonomous SPM techniques are needed to learn optimal strategies for new systems, in particular for the challenge of controlling chemical reactions and hence offering a route to precise atomic and molecular construction. In this paper, we developed a software infrastructure named AutoOSS (Autonomous On-Surface Synthesis) to automate bromine removal from hundreds of Zn(II)-5,15-bis(4-bromo-2,6-dimethylphenyl)porphyrin (ZnBr2Me4DPP) on Au(111), using neural network models to interpret STM outputs and deep reinforcement learning models to optimize manipulation parameters. This is further supported by Bayesian Optimization Structure Search (BOSS) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations to explore 3D structures and reaction mechanisms based on STM images. © 2024, CC BY.

The advanced oxidation process of peroxymonosulfate mediated through metal-doped MoS2 catalysts has attracted extensive attention in recent years, while the understanding of structure-performance relationship with the doping component and MoS2 is still challenging but highly desirable. In this work, a stable Ni-doped 2H-MoS2 catalyst was prepared via a simple one-step hydrothermal method, and employed as efficient PMS activators for the degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX). It is revealed that the degradation rate of 2%Ni doped 2H-MoS2 catalyst for SMX can achieve 93% within 60 minutes, which was 1.5 times than that of counterpart (2H-MoS2). A series of in-depth characterizations and DFT calculations revealed that the introducing of Ni greatly enhanced the generation of hydroxyl radicals, decreased the adsorption energy barriers for PMS and dramatically accelerated the reaction efficiency. Besides, a more stable structure and a higher cycling stability during reaction were obtained after Ni doping on the 2H-MoS2. Based on the results of systematic study, this work elucidates a fundamental understanding of structure-activity relationship on doping MoS2 catalysts, and provides a new strategy for the construction of efficient PMS activators. © 2023, The Authors. This paper investigates public key cryptosystems (PKC) in the rank metric and term-rank metric. For security analysis of cryptosystems, we introduce a GPT system. Recently, respective structural attacks this system were proposed by Over-beck. For GPT system, Overbeck's attack succeeds in polynomial time. We will discuss the new construction of Shiki system. This paper describes Overbeck's attack to the new Shiki system. Also, investigation of the possibility of using term-rank codes in public key cryptosystems.

Subdiffusive wave transport and weak localization transition in three-dimensional stealthy hyperuniform disordered systems

The purpose of this work is to understand the fundamental connection between structural correlations and light localization in three-dimensional (3D) open scattering systems of finite size. We numerically investigate the transport of vector electromagnetic waves scattered by resonant electric dipoles spatially arranged in 3D space by stealthy hyperuniform disordered point patterns. Three-dimensional stealthy hyperuniform disordered systems are engineered with different structural correlation properties determined by their degree of stealthiness χ. Such fine control of exotic states of amorphous matter enables the systematic design of optical media that interpolate in a tunable fashion between uncorrelated random structures and crystalline materials. By solving the electromagnetic multiple scattering problem using Green's matrix spectral method, we establish a transport phase diagram that demonstrates a distinctive transition from a diffusive to a weak localization regime beyond a critical scattering density that depends on χ. The transition is characterized by studying the Thouless number and the spectral statistics of the scattering resonances. In particular, by tuning the χ parameter, we demonstrate large spectral gaps and suppressed subradiant proximity resonances, facilitating light localization. Moreover, consistently with previous studies, our results show a region of the transport phase diagram where the investigated scattering systems become transparent. Our work provides a systematic description of the transport and weak localization properties of light in stealthy hyperuniform structures and motivates the engineering of photonic systems with enhanced light-matter interactions for applications to both classical and quantum devices.
