Radio stations of Auger Engineering Radio Array investigates radio signals from coherent emissions due to geomagnetic radiation and charge excess processes. The frequency band is limited to 30 - 80 MHz. This range is highly contaminated by human-made RFI. In order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, RFI filters have to be *** paper presents results of tests of three RFI filters: IIR, FIR and LMS tested in real Argentinean pampas conditions, which fully confirmed laboratory preliminary features. IIR filter, currently in use, is the most efficient, however, non-adaptive. It operates perfectly if only beacons are the RFI. If the other narrow-band source appears, the IIR is transparent for them. Two next filters FIR and LMS are adaptive and automatically suppress all narrow-band sources. The most promising is the LMS one. © 2021 IEEE.

Renal tumor malignancy classification is one of the crucial tasks in urology, being a primary factor included in the decision of whether to perform kidney removal surgery (nephrectomy) or not. Currently, tumor malignancy prediction is determined by the radiological diagnosis based on computed tomography (CT) images. However, it is estimated that up to 16% of nephrectomies could have been avoided because the tumor that had been diagnosed as malignant, was found to be benign in the postoperative histopathological examination. The excess of false-positive diagnoses results in unnecessarily performed nephrectomies that carry the risk of periprocedural complications. In this paper, we present a machine-aided diagnosis system that predicts the tumor malignancy based on a CT image. The prediction is performed after radiological diagnosis and is used to capture false-positive diagnoses. Our solution is able to achieve a 0.84 F1-score in this task. We also propose a novel approach to knowledge transfer in the medical domain in terms of colorization based pre-processing that is able to increase the F1-score by up to 1.8pp. © 2022 by the authors. In two-dimensional superconductors, Yu-Shiba-Rusinov bound states, induced by the magnetic impurities, extend over long distances giving rise to a long-range hopping model supporting a large number of topological phases with distinct Chern numbers. Here, we study how the electron-electron interactions affect, on a mean-field level, the selection of the realized Chern numbers and the magnitudes of the topological energy gaps in this model. We find that, in the case of an individual choice of the model parameters, the interactions can enhance or reduce the topological gap as well as cause topological phase transitions because of the complex interplay of superconductivity, magnetism, and the large spatial extent of the Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states. By sampling a large number of realizations of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov lattice models with different model parameters, we show that, statistically, the interactions have no effect on the realized Chern numbers and typical magnitudes of the topological gaps. However, the interactions substantially increase the likelihood of the largest topological gaps in the tails of the energy gap distribution in comparison to the noninteracting case.

This study aimed to 1) assess the improvement in problem-solving abilities related to surface area and volume of 3D shapes among students using STAD cooperative learning with GSP compared to Lecture-oriented teaching, and 2) evaluate students' attitudes with the mathematics STAD cooperative learning activities using GSP. The statistical techniques employed in this study included Mean, Standard Deviation, and T-test analysis. The findings of the study indicated that, between the two teaching approaches, students in the STAD cooperative learning environment, integrating GSP interactive digital learning, demonstrated significantly enhanced problem-solving skills. Although both methods exhibited improvement in the post-test, it is apparent that the STAD model of cooperative learning with GSP is more effective than Lecture-oriented teaching when it comes to comprehending the surface area and volume of 3D shapes. Additionally, students expressed high attitudes toward the mathematical learning management approach.

With newly landed Perseverance Mars rover utilizing the power of the atom the question of effective power in extraterrestrial environment, especially on Mars, turns in the direction of nuclear even more prominently. With many options in that field considered, reworked and tested, perhaps one of the most promising is Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor, which can be modually produced, mounted, and gives the best results with the least risk. Optimizing for its effectivity brought research on in-situ production of its salt components and while it shows great promise, possible eutectics should be considered. This paper stands as a research and analysis of such eutectics' composition, in order to avoid the usage of beryllium and other harmful and rare components as well as optimize the reactor for in-situ production and functionality in Martian environment. Our research shows that commercially available graphene on quartz modified with rhenium oxide meets the requirements for its use as a conductive and transparent anode in optoelectronic devices. The cluster growth of rhenium oxide enables an increase in the work function of graphene by 1.3 eV up to 5.2 eV, which guarantees an appropriate adjustment to the energy levels of the organic semiconductors used in OLED devices. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

A new Quantum Field Theory formalism for neutrino oscillations is introduced. It identifies charged-current vertices with neutrino emission and detection, including neutrino propagation. A master formula for the charged lepton production rate, that works for both (anti)neutrino-(anti)neutrino and neutrino-antineutrino oscillations (and vice versa) in a macroscopic distance L, is presented. A relationship between Majorana masses associated with neutrino-antineutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double-beta decay is addressed. The potential of using the flux of reactor antineutrinos to observe antineutrino-neutrino oscillations is discussed. Further, an approach has been developed to construct amplitudes of processes related to neutrinos in terms of the neutrino mass matrix without reference to the neutrino mixing matrix. It is assumed that fitting experimental data in terms of the neutrino mass matrix can provide better statistical accuracy in determining the neutrino mass matrix compared to methods using the neutrino mixing matrix at intermediate stages. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

During the second SARS-COV-2 pandemic wave in Slovakia (August 2020 - June 2021) reported data did not capture real health care demand and the capacity of hospitals and mechanical ventilations for COVID-19 patients was exceeded. Real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and lateral flow antigen (LFAg) test incidences were strongly biased due to a variation of the total volume of tests administered and sample selection. Also, confirmation of COVID-19 related deaths was often significantly delayed. Available data thus failed to characterize the true extent of the pandemics. To fill this gap we perform a retrospective analysis of the time series of epidemic indicators and estimate dynamics of the true pandemic state in Slovakia during the pandemic wave. We estimate that on average approximately 20.0% more hospital beds and 19.2% more mechanical ventilators were needed in hospitals than reported bed occupancy in Slovakia during the period November 2020 - March 2021. Our estimates rely on a linear relationship between total adjusted incidence in a form of weighted linear combination of RT-qPCR and LFAg incidences and hospitalizations data lagged by 8 days. The linear relationship systematically emerges before and after the epidemic peak and the real epidemic state is estimated by a projection of the observed data on the corresponding linear manifold. In this study, we ascertain the associations between BCG vaccination policies and the disease progression in the initial phases of COVID-19 pandemics through analysis of various time-adjusted indicators either directly extracted from the incidence and death reports, or estimated as parameters of disease progression models. We observe weak correlation between BCG vaccination status and indicators related to disease reproduction characteristics. We did not find any associations with case fatality rates (CFR), but the differences in CFR estimates were likely dominated by differences in testing and case reporting between countries.
