The ionosphere over Malaysia is unique because of her location near the equator where the existence of the equatorial anomaly, electrojet, and fountain effect have made it good for studies. As part of a rejuvenation process in investigating the equatorial ionosphere in Malaysia, a short duration ionospheric experimental campaign was carried out at Fraser's Hill (lat. 3° 42.9′ N, long. 101° 44.2′ E, at an altitude of 1298 m) from August 1 to 18, 2005. Two sets of equipment were installed; a digital ionosonde and a dual frequency GPS receiver. The ionosonde consists of the sounding equipment using a delta antenna for transmitting and a dipole antenna for receiving. The GPS dual frequency receiver that is co-located with the digisonde is utilized as an ionospheric scintillation and TEC monitor. Results are compared with the main observatory at Parit Raja (lat. 1 ° 86′ N, long. 103 ° 8′ E) Malaysia.

Four graphs for personalized study planning constitute the personalized study planning framework, namely, a graph representing a conceptual structure of study program; a graph representing study course; a graph visualizing each topic of study course using concept map; a graph representing learning objects. This paper deals with the third graph – a graph displaying study course topic structure and knowledge assessment. Authors describe concept map based knowledge evaluation system integration possibilities with personalized study planning prototype and usage in personal study planning. In order to perform the structure analysis of the concept maps authors propose to use of the methods of structure analysis to calculate the ranks for the nodes of the graphs thus detecting the most significant nodes in the graph structure. The calculation of ranks for the graph nodes allows detecting the most essential concepts in the concept map.

In this paper, we propose a method for detecting a traffic sign from a scene image in the daytime. This method uses Active Net in two steps. Active net is a deformable lattice network model which minimizes an energy function to detect the region of a target object. In the proposed method, the first Active Net roughly estimates a position of a target region For the better target detection, we put the second Active Net around the estimated position. However, since the number of the iteration of Active Net is fixed, an unnecessary computation is performed in the method Therefore, a method to exclude unnecessary computation by automatic stopping of Active Net is also proposed. Experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

This study presents the analysis of the existing methods for assessing the absorption capacity of biological tissues in the millimeter wavelength range. Problems that were encountered during it are shown. A functional flow diagram of the device, which provides an increase in the accuracy of measuring the absorption capacity, is suggested. The algorithm of operation of the suggested device was described in detail.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) is a subpart from mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs). The main idea from VANETs is to establish communication between vehicles for the safety of the people. However, mobility of vehicles appears to be the main challenge in VANETs. High speed of vehicles causes topology changed that results in an unstable network. Therefore, clustering is used to reduce the effect of vehicle mobility by combining vehicles in a group called cluster. Network stability is based on clusters stability. Therefore, most of the authors focused on increasing cluster stability to enhance the network. Nevertheless, increasing the number of the cluster in the network affects the network performance negatively. This paper proposes a new method called Hybrid Cluster-Head Election (HCHE) to reduce the number of the cluster in the network to increase network performance. Performance of the proposed method was evaluated through simulation by utilising real-time datasets. Arduino, GPS and external antennas were used to collect real GPS locations from Batu Pahat City - Johor - Malaysia. Overall, the proposed method resulted high performance in the reduction ratio of the number of cluster head compared to other recent methods. The proposed method successfully reduced the number of cluster heads by 30%.

This panel brings together academics and practitioners to discuss the structural problems facing visual effects within the film and television industry today. This discussion is organized around four sub-Topics: 1) labor solutions and what unionization would mean, 2) perceptions of VFX artists and their contributions within the industry by filmmakers and artists themselves, as well as the audience, 3) issues of inclusivity along gender and racial lines, and their effects on work/life balances, and 4) VFX as equal creative partners rather than isolated, temporary, highly-skilled specialists. This panel is a continuation of work begun by the faculty and practitioner organizers, Heath Hanlin (Syracuse University, VPA) and Shaina Holmes (Syracuse University, Newhouse) on studying structural challenges and obstacles to entry for students hoping to enter the VFX industry, in particular women, and artists of color. An earlier iteration of this discussion was held at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The hope is that the technical focus and high attendance by industry practitioners at Siggraph, adds practitioner perspectives and educator feedback to the sub-Topics listed above. Simply put, today's film and television industry rely heavily on visual effects, both to advance the story or as a means to hide imperfections to keep the audience engaged without technical distractions. Traditional conceptions of VFX artistry as a production step that comes after primary cinematography is simply outdated. Unfortunately, the economic and work-flow structure of the industry accepts this new reality while at the same time attempting to compensate, credit, and organize VFX artists within the outdated framework. Often this aspect of the conversation is moored in debates surrounding the potentiality of AI to either positively impact the industry (no more underpaid routinized tasks for artists) or negatively (crafts persons and artists can be replaced by algorithms). Terahertz-Frequency Spin Hall Auto-oscillator Based on a Canted Antiferromagnet

We propose a design of a terahertz-frequency signal generator based on a layered structure consisting of a current-driven platinum (Pt) layer and a layer of an antiferromagnet (AFM) with easy-plane anisotropy, where the magnetization vectors of the AFM sublattices are canted inside the easy plane by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). The dc electric current flowing in the Pt layer creates due to the spin Hall effect, a perpendicular spin current that, being injected in the AFM layer, tilts the DMI-canted AFM sublattices out of the easy plane, thus exposing them to the action of a strong internal exchange magnetic field of the AFM. The sublattice magnetizations, along with the small net magnetization vector mDMI of the canted AFM, start to rotate about the hard anisotropy axis of the AFM with the terahertz frequency proportional to the injected spin current and the AFM exchange field. The rotation of the small net magnetization mDMI results in the terahertz-frequency dipolar radiation that can be directly received by an adjacent (e.g., dielectric) resonator. We demonstrate theoretically that the radiation frequencies in the range f=0.05–2 THz are possible at the experimentally reachable magnitudes of the driving current density, and we evaluate the power of the signal radiated into different types of resonators. This power increases with the increase of frequency f, and it can exceed 1 μW at f∼0.5 THz for a typical dielectric resonator of the electric permittivity ϵ∼10 and a quality factor Q∼750.

Recently, it has been shown that ferrimagnets made from Gd(Fe,Co) alloys exhibit ultrafast dynamics near the angular momentum compensation point. Owing to the small net magnetization in these alloys, stable magnetic vortices can be the ground state in a nanoscale disk, and gyrotropic motion can be driven by spin torque. It is shown that the Oersted field from the current can stabilize the vortex, and the critical current for gyrotropic motion and the current-dependent frequency are calculated in the Thiele model. This system can be used as a vortex-state spin-torque auto-oscillator working at frequencies of tens of gigahertz.

This paper proposed a design approach for a series-fed omnidirectional antenna based on 3D full-metal printing. A major issue when designing series-fed antennas is the radiation pattern lobing caused by the unique feeding mechanism. In this paper, necessary adjustments are made based on the phase relationships between the currents and electric fields of each radiating element, resulting in improved radiation characteristics for the series-fed antenna. To validate this idea, the paper designs a rod-shaped full-metal omnidirectional antenna, achieving a wide operating bandwidth and high gain. Additionally, a filtering antenna with omnidirectional radiation is designed, which achieves a high level of out-of-band suppression as well as good omnidirectional radiation performance.
