The problem of robust overlapping decentralized control for a class of multi-area power system with radial structure are discussed in this paper. Based on its own structure information a new control method is presented, which can improve the robust decentralized control performance of the radial structure interconnected power system. In the method, the special overlapping decomposition process is carried on for the radial structure based on the restriction conditions of inclusion principle at first. Then the robust decentralized controllers are designed by means of linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed method is applied to AGC of a four-area radial structure power system, and the simulation results show that the performances of the controllers designed by proposed method are better than the one by LMI approach directly

In this paper, a new global adaptive output feedback dynamic compensator is proposed for tracking of a class of systems that are globally diffeomorphic into systems in generalized output feedback canonical form. Output-dependent nonlinearities are allowed to enter in both cases as additive and multiplicative. The system is allowed to contain unknown parameters multiplying output-dependent nonlinearities. The proposed method relies on a novel parameter estimator and state observer design methodology and the standard backstepping construction. It is shown in the paper the proposed design has three distinctive features not present in the known designs. The applicability and the effectiveness of our method are illustrated by means of respectively, a numerical example and two magnetic levitation systems which are, controlled by the coil current and the voltage applied to coil circuit

Many real world systems, including smart mechatronics systems, can be better characterized by dynamic systems of non-integer order. Using non-integer order or fractional order calculus, fractional order systems can be modeled more authentically. Due to the nature of the infinite dimensional model, proper approximations to fractional order differentiator (s alpha , alpha isin Ropf) are fundamentally important. This paper contributed a new approximation scheme which is an extension of the well-established Oustaloup's approximation method. The benefits from using the proposed scheme are illustrated by numerical examples in both time and frequency domains

Determination of optimal control strategy is one of the key factors for a successful supply chain management. This paper focuses on the research of an inventory control strategy of a serial supply chain. First, it proposes an optimization model of an inventory control that is based on the combination of a nonlinear integer programming model and a general push/pull control model. Then, the optimal control strategy is obtained by the combination of pheromone evolutionary algorithm and simulation analysis. Case studies demonstrated the effectiveness of the method.

In this paper, a fractional order PID controller is investigated for a position servomechanism control system considering actuator saturation and the shaft torsional flexibility. For actually implementation, we introduced a modified approximation method to realize the designed fractional order PID controller. Numerous simulation comparisons presented in this paper indicate that, the fractional order PID controller, if properly designed and implemented, will outperform the conventional integer order PID controller

The known additive increase multiplicative decrease algorithm has been further investigated and a novel, improved TCP-friendly flow control algorithm derived. This algorithm provides basic flow congestion control for multimedia data traffic over Internet, and also fulfils the fairness between RTP flows and TCP flows while retaining essential characteristics of this algorithm. Important parameters that are involved in network's communication process have been thoroughly studied and properly introduced into the novel algorithm. Innovation work done to this known algorithm helps smoothing the multimedia transfer and guarantees the fairness among TCP flows and RTP flows

The stabilization problem of composite interconnected linear dynamic systems with delays and uncertainties in the plant interconnections and without is studied. Such a problem appears in the control of interconnected plant systems via networked interconnections. Conditions are derived when time-delays in the interconnections do not to impose difficulties to decentralized stabilization control of the interconnected plant provided the state vector is available. Main results of this contribution are given in terms of the respective theorems showing it is always feasible to stabilize the plant by designing appropriate local memoryless state feedback. An illustration example is given

In this paper, a global robust stabilizer for a class of uncertain non-minimum-phase nonlinear systems in generalized output feedback canonical form is designed. The system contains unknown parameters multiplied by output-dependent nonlinearities and output-dependent nonlinearities enter such a system both additively and multiplicatively. The proposed method relies on a novel parameter estimator and state observer design methodology together with combined standard backstepping and small-gain approach. Our design has three distinct features. Firstly, the parameter estimator and state observer does not follow the classical certainty-equivalence principle. Second, the design treats in a unified way unknown parameters and unmeasured states. Third, the technique by combining backstepping technique and small-gain theorem ensures robustness with respect to dynamic uncertainties. Finally, a numerical example is given to show that the proposed method can be applied to more general systems which do not satisfy the cascading upper diagonal dominance (CUDD) conditions developed in recent papers

With the emergence of global market economy and in order to respond fast to the constantly changing market demand, virtual enterprises arise at this historic moment. Risk management of virtual enterprise draws attentions of researchers. This paper proposes a three-level programming model to deal with the dynamic risk of virtual enterprise, based on non-linear integer programming, network analysis, and Markov process. The model focuses on project organization mode and dynamic features of risk in virtual enterprise. It helps to determine the completion time of each process with the objectives of maximizing the minimum completion probability of all processes under the constraints of project investment, customers' due dates, and process quality. Furthermore, an algorithm of integrated SA/CPM/Markov is designed to solve the problem and its efficacy is shown by instances

In this paper, we discuss two issues in the study of networked control systems (NCSs). Firstly, we point out some limitations of current research on NCSs. Secondly, we examine whether NCSs can improve control system performance, and present a counter-argument to the widely held view that "designers choosing to use a networked control system architecture are motivated not by performance, but by cost, maintenance, and reliability."
