Vibrothermography is a nondestructive testing method that monitors heat produced by damage under vibration and/or ultrasonic excitation in order to evaluate the structural health. The paper investigates practical aspects of vibrothermographic testing of structures. Measurements in two typical application areas of vibrothermography are presented and discussed. The examples are weld test specimens and a military aircraft fuselage skin. Measurements have been performed with use of an in-house vibrothermographic testing system. In case of welded specimens a series of carbon steel test samples with different flaw types have been investigated. In case of aircraft testing, field measurements have been performed on a wing and fuselage sections in order to assess the structural integrity. The paper discusses practical aspects related to field measurements with use of vibrothermography and presents thermal image processing techniques which allow to obtain the best flaw detection results. Applied image processing techniques allow increasing the quality and readability of the results coming from field measurements with low thermal response from the structure. The paper is concluded with a discussion on applications of vibrothermographic testing in Structural Health Monitoring applications.

In the last few years, for the purposes of identification of mechanical systems during their normal work the OMA (Operational Modal Analysis) methods are frequently used. These methods can be applied under the assumption that the excitation acting on the tested system is random. This requirement is not met in case of some industrial machines (e.g. in power engineering) while the excitation related to rotating elements significantly worsen the accuracy of modal models estimated by means of the OMA methods. Therefore the methods making it possible to overcome this problem arise great interest. One of such methods is OMAX that nowadays is more and more frequently applied to operational identification of mechanical structures. The paper concerns comparison of the classical methods (OMA) and OMAX method. The results were verified experimentally for the characteristics measured on the laboratory object and on the wind turbine.

The paper is devoted to the final stage of the works realized under the research project entitled: "The development of the method for marking and identification of the spots dangerous and of special importance for vision impaired persons in the big city with use of the wave-vibration markers". The article presents the optimal solution regarding the installation of the system on the selected objects of the urban engineering. The concept of the shape of the zone that is used for marking of the dangerous spot is also discussed. Finally a review of influence of environmental sounds on orientation and mobility of blind and visual impaired people, results of vibration perception threshold measurement taken at the wrist of both hands, and some possible application of paraseismic vibrations in the spatial orientation of blind and partially-sighted people are presented.
