The proactive maintenance involves the advances warming of the failure possibility, that can bring the attention of maintenance personnel to impending danger, and realizing preventive and corrective operations. The paper describes the application type of HMI/ SCADA equipped with tools created using soft computing techniques applied to design the fuzzy predictive models of time between failures, and to aid decision-making process of user by collected in database heuristic maintenance strategy. The method of off-line and on-line learning predictive models was based on the genetic algorithm and recursive least squares algorithm. The application of supervisory system was tested on the laboratory stand equipped with the physical model of an overhead travelling crane.

In this study, the puppet master approach to solve the kinematics of complex multi-body systems is introduced. The puppet master approach is shown in comparison with traditional analytical one. The method is used to solve multi-body systems of bio-inspired concept prototypes. In these examples the strong and weak sides of this approach are shown. The puppet master approach can be used to rapidly evaluate and compare different concept prototypes.

The influence of non-uniform magnetic field on the beam with magnetorheological fluid is used to build the vibration control algorithms. A special laboratory stand with appropriate electromagnet was built to test free and forced vibrations of the beam with and without control. Experiments were done to determine the stiffness and damping parameters of the beam for various currents flowing in electromagnet coils. A vibration control algorithm was proposed, based on the system identification data and using the averaging technique of nonlinear system analysis.

This paper aims to present the throttle valve, in which a piezoelectric stack was used for adjustment of the flow section area of the throttle aperture. The valve was built based on a proprietary design, using the components of a standard manufactured overflow valve. Laboratory tests were carried out to establish the valve's characteristics, describing its usefulness for control of small flow intensity. LabView software was used for measuring the data gathered. The test results, after conversion, were developed using the Matlab/Simuling software package. This paper presents the most notable results of the tests of a valve equipped with a high-voltage piezoelectric stack. Based on the results obtained, the functional correlation between the volumetric flow rate, pressure drop in the throttling aperture and control signal input to the piezoelectric stack were determined.

The paper describes the crane control application and method of designing the anti-sway crane control system based on the fuzzy logic and pole placement method. The crane control system consists of the machine vision system used to contactless measure the sway of a payload, and the untypical stereovision system based on a single camera used to capture the stereo pair of crane workspace snapshots. The method of crane workspace identification based on the stereovision system, and safe and time-optimal path planning for a payload utilizing the heuristic graph search algorithm is delivered in the paper, together with the hardware and software description of the control application.

Hoisting installations in mines have been constructed and operated for many years, yet they still merit a rigorous research to identify all factors that would enable us to improve their performance parameters. A Koepe pulley in a winding system is a complex structural component, made of plates, shells, discs, membranes, radial or circumferential fin elements varying in their actual layout, depending on the design. The strength analysis of a Koepe pulley in a hoisting system is carried out to get a better insight into the state of stress experienced by pulley components under the operational loads and to find the extreme values of the stress components, which underlies the fatigue endurance and life assessments. Accordingly, the stress analysis of pulley elements is performed by the numerical methods, utilising the FEM approach. Models are developed using the program "FEMAP" and the stress analysis uses the package "NE"/"Nastran for Windows'. The numerical data are then verified through strain (stress) measurements taken on a real object, under the typical operating conditions.

This paper proposes a new humanoid robot wrist with forearm based on a 3SPS-1S parallel mechanism. This parallel mechanism has a central strut to increase the stiffness of the platform and constrain the platform to have wrist motion. Inverse and forward kinematics is solved analytically based on the geometrical constraint equations and Dixon's resultant is used in the forward displacement analysis which is a difficult problem in parallel mechanism research. A numerical example is given to validate those theoretical results. Workspace of the new wrist is also discussed and comparison is made with the human wrist. The new wrist shows potential to improve robot performance by integrating advantages of parallel mechanisms.
