The paper examines the modeling of a reconfigurable battery pack and analyzes energy dissipation in battery energy storage across various operation modes. A battery management system is designed for the reconfigurable battery pack to minimize inner resistance and enhance energy performance across a wide voltage range. Additionally, a method for evaluating the inner resistance of reconfigurable battery packs is presented, allowing comparison with standard battery packs of the same cell number and capacity. It is shown that different battery energy storage structures in electric drive operations optimize losses in the battery pack and enable comparison of battery cell heating power during drive operations. Obtaibed results facilitate the optimization of energy efficiency and battery heating, enabling the synthesis of the electrical structure while excluding unnecessary switched states during reconfigurable battery pack operations. It is also shown that within the analyzed voltage and current range, it is possible to determine the optimal structure on the basis of the known battery pack structure and resistance ratio of the switch and battery cell. © 2024 IEEE.

In haptic shared control (HSC) for teleoperation, the human operator and autonomous system share control via torque on the input device. When a discrepancy exists between the human's maneuvering intent and the autonomous maneuver presentation, the human can apply additional force to the device to achieve the desired maneuvering. The required force level is generally predetermined during design and closely relates to the human workload. This study investigated scenarios where discrepancies between human and machine control occur frequently owing to unreliable sensor information. We propose a method to allow the operator to adjust the machine's assist level, facilitating smoother control transitions and proving useful when machine suggestions are unreliable. Conventional HSC systems generally lack sufficient information for operators to make informed decisions regarding adjusting assist levels, leading to delayed decisions and increased workloads. To address this, our research objective is to communicate sensor reliability to humans, thereby facilitating deciding the machine's assist level. We focused on the HSC of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) where the sensor system is prone to unreliable. Maneuvering experiments with an ROV simulation involving sixteen participants demonstrated the proposed method effectively communicates sensor reliability to operators and reduces mental demand compared to conventional methods. © 2025 IEEE.

This study proposes methods that can be used to examine and interpret comments that users have made after watching videos on YouTube on a particular topic. YouTube tutorials are very popular among young people. They have become an important pillar in informal education, thus contributing to the rapid acquisition of skills and knowledge. Under these circumstances, we were interested in analysing the YouTube videos comments, knowing that the platform has a continuous increase in popularity, which is also due to the opportunities of sharing them. Since ChatGPT-themed YouTube videos have seen a significant surge in popularity since 2022, we were interested to analyse some videos that approach the topics of 'ChatGPT, AI clone, AI robot and Deep Learning.' © 2024 IEEE.

MangoLeafXNet: An Explainable Deep Learning Model for Accurate Mango Leaf Disease Classification

Addressing the global challenge of ensuring a consistent and abundant supply of fresh fruit, particularly in the context of fruit crops, is hindered by the prevalence of plant diseases. These diseases directly impact the quality of fruits, leading to a decline in overall agricultural production. Mango leaf diseases pose significant threats to global mango production, necessitating accurate and efficient classification techniques for timely disease management. Our study focuses on introducing MangoLeafXNet, a customized Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture specifically tailored for the classification of mango leaf diseases, along with a healthy class. Our proposed model comprises six layers optimized to capture intricate disease patterns, demonstrating superior performance compared with prevalent pre-trained models. The model is trained and evaluated on three publicly available datasets: MangoLeafBD (4000 images across 8 classes), MangoPest (16 pest classes including healthy leaves), and MLDID (3000 high-resolution images across 5 classes). Our model demonstrated exceptional classification performance, attaining 99.8% accuracy, 99.62% recall, 99.5% precision, and an F1-score of 99.56%. Further validation on the MangoPest dataset and the Mango Leaf Disease Identification Dataset (MLDID) resulted in accuracies of 96.31% and 96.33%, respectively, confirming the robustness and adaptability of MangoLeafXNet across different datasets. Additionally, we incorporate Explainable AI techniques, including GRAD-CAM, Saliency Map, and LIME to enhance the interpretability of our model. We deployed Gradio web interface to create an interactive interface that allows users to upload images of mango leaves and get real-time classification and validation results along with confidence scores. This contribution not only advances the state-of-the-art in mango leaf disease classification but also offers promising prospects for real-time disease diagnosis and precision agriculture

This research work proposes the introduction of an innovative system for monitoring the rotations of the rollers integrated in a mecanum wheel, which provides improve the control and understanding of this essential element of omnidirectional motion. Considering the importance of the performance of these wheels in mobile robotics applications and autonomous systems, the study focuses on the analysis of the most common typologies of mecanum wheels, identifying the critical factors that influence their efficiency and stability. The research initially approaches the detailed study of the construction and operation of the mecanum wheels, going on to identify the specific characteristics that can alter the dynamic behaviour of the system. Next, it is proposed to design and integrate a monitoring system capable of following in real time the rotations of the rollers and why not, a monitoring system capable of removing the slippage of the rollers or skidding on inclined planes, using a series of sensors and data processing algorithms. The methodology adopted combines the theoretical analysis with the practical development of a prototype, which will be subjected to a set of rigorous experimental tests, aimed at validating the performance of the system in various operating conditions. The paper's conclusions will highlight the benefits of implementing the proposed system and suggest future research directions, focusing on refining monitoring algorithms and integrating real-time feedback technologies into advanced robotic platforms. © 2025 The Author(s). This paper presents the design and implementation of PLA objects using different parameters of a 3D printer machine, and the detection of imperfections of components surface using a custom YOLO-v8 algorithm. The different parameters used by the 3D printer and environment changes can produce errors on a material surface, which can be classified and revealed by computer vision detection, to avoid flaws in the fabrication process. The implemented Windows application has been trained with thousands of pictures and intensely tested to recognise with a big precision, imperfections on PLA 3D printed objects. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. The article discusses one of the most active areas of digitalization: the technology of creating a digital twin of a person and the tasks that can be solved with its application. In the article, the principles and procedure for designing a digital twin of a person are analyzed step by step. Each step is illustrated with examples of the equipment used and the results achieved. Thus, the authors of the article present research in the field of forming a model of the necessary competencies of employees of industrial enterprises based on the proposed technology. A brief description of the software solutions adopted in the concept of Digital twins is presented. Using concrete examples, the conditions and problems of the introduction of Digital twins in the world, in particular in Russia, are considered. The analysis of publications of domestic and foreign authors in the field of the development of a digital twin of a person is carried out. © 2023 IEEE.

How to split the costs and charge the travellers sharing a ride? aligning system's optimum with users' equilibrium

Emerging on-demand sharing alternatives, in which one resource is utilised simultaneously by a circumstantial group of users, entail several challenges regarding how to coordinate such users. A very relevant case refers to how to form groups in a mobility system that offers shared rides, and how to split the costs within the travellers of a group. These are non-trivial tasks, as two objectives conflict: 1) minimising the total costs of the system, and 2) finding an equilibrium where each user is content with her assignment. Aligning both objectives is challenging, as users are not aware of the externalities induced to the rest. In this paper, we propose protocols to share the costs within a ride so that optimal solutions can also constitute equilibria. To do this, we model the situation as a non-cooperative game, which can be seen as a game-version of the well-known set cover problem . We show that the traditional notions of equilibrium in game theory (Nash and Strong) are not useful here, and prove that determining whether a Strong Equilibrium exists is an NP-Complete problem, by reducing it to the k-Exact-Cover problem. Hence, we propose three alternative equilibrium notions (stronger than Nash and weaker than Strong), depending on how users can coordinate. For each of these equilibrium notions, we propose a (possibly overcharging) cost-sharing protocol that yields the optimal solutions equilibria. Simulations for Amsterdam reveal that our protocols can achieve stable solutions that are close to the optimum, and that having a central coordinator can have a large impact. (c) 2021 The Author(s). Thanks to the unique capabilities of distributed fibre optic sensing (DFOS), a significant increase in its applications within civil engineering has been observed during the last years. In contrast to conventional spot sensing, the main advantage of this technology is the possibility for direct damage detection as the information is gained over the entire measurement path. Such advanced diagnostic tools are especially recommended for safety-critical infrastructure, including bridges. However, to utilise the benefits provided by the DFOS approach, appropriate sensors have to be applied. The article briefly discusses possible solutions available on the market, indicating their specific advantages and limitations. Then, several practical case studies are presented related to the monitoring of selected bridges in Poland. Successful applications proved the excellent performance of DFOS-based systems for measurements of concrete, steel and composite bridges in actual operating conditions. © 2022 the Author(s).
