It is a challenge for robot-assisted rehabilitation therapy to develop a training program with both customized and optimized characteristics. To optimize the scheme of the trajectory rehabilitation training mode, we design a trajectory optimization algorithm with an intelligent decision mechanism. A trajectory smoothing improvement algorithm is proposed to make the trajectory more suitable for rehabilitation training. In addition, we propose an improved genetic algorithm that reduces the optimization time and obtains a better solution. An adaptive variable time weight improved trapezoidal velocity algorithm is innovatively designed by fusing the above two algorithms with an optimal rehabilitation training program as a guide. Based on the experimental platform of the upper limb rehabilitation robot, it is demonstrated that the algorithm can provide comfortable and high-quality rehabilitation training for patients by adaptively optimizing the parameters of the trajectory model according to the training constraints. By combining an intelligent optimization algorithm with a rehabilitation robot trajectory planning algorithm, this paper realizes the unification of customization and optimization of a trajectory rehabilitation training program.

Robotic competitions stand as platforms to propel the forefront of robotics research while nurturing STEM education, serving as hubs of both applied research and scientific innovation. In Portugal, the Portuguese robotics Open (FNR) is an event with several robotic competitions, including the Robot@Factory 4.0 competition. This competition presents an example of deploying autonomous robots on a factory shop floor. Although the literature has works proposing frameworks for the original version of the Robot@Factory competition, none of them proposes a system framework for the Robot@Factory 4.0 version that presents the hardware, firmware, and software to complete the competition and achieve autonomous navigation. This paper proposes a complete robotic framework for the Robot@Factory 4.0 competition that is modular and open-access, enabling future participants to use and improve it in future editions. This work is the culmination of all the knowledge acquired by winning the 2022 and 2023 editions of the competition.

Electromagnetic launchers become spread in many applications. This type of launcher is used to accelerate a slug made of ferromagnetic material. Many researchers compete to enhance the performance of this type. The launcher consists of simple components such as a capacitor bank, electronic switches, launcher coil, and charging circuit. In this paper, the authors have physically built the launcher system and reinforced the launcher performance by changing the winding method and making the trigger coil in a conical shape to reduce the deceleration effect of the last half of the trigger, this modification has proven its superiority over the straight coil. © 2022 IEEE.

Precision spraying in agriculture is crucial for optimizing the application of pesticides while minimizing environmental impact. Despite significant advancements in control models for spraying systems, predictive control algorithms were not used. This paper addresses this gap by proposing a real-time control framework that integrates predictive control strategies to ensure consistent pressure output in a trailer sprayer. Based on information from various sensors, the framework anticipates and adapts to dynamic environmental conditions, enhancing accuracy and sustainability in spraying practices. A methodology is developed to define a proportional valve model. Based on this valve model, the predictive control model optimizes valve movements to minimize errors between predicted and reference pressures, thereby improving spraying efficiency. This study demonstrates the viability of predictive control in improving precision spraying systems applicable to autonomous robots, encouraging future advances in agricultural spraying technologies.

Ionic polymer actuators, in essence, consist of ion exchange polymers sandwiched between layers of electrodes. They have recently gained recognition as promising candidates for soft actuators due to their lightweight nature, noise-free operation, and low-driving voltages. However, the materials traditionally utilized to develop them are often not human/environmentally friendly. Thus, to address this issue, researchers have been focusing on developing biocompatible versions of this actuator. Despite this, such actuators still face challenges in achieving high performance, in payload capacity, bending capabilities, and response time. In this paper, we present a biocompatible ionic polymer actuator whose membrane is fully 3D printed utilizing a direct ink writing method. The structure of the printed membranes consists of biodegradable ionic fluid encapsulated within layers of activated carbon polymers. From the microscopic observations of its structure, we confirmed that the ionic polymer is well encapsulated. The actuators can achieve a bending performance of up to 124◦ (curvature of 0.82 cm−1), which, to our knowledge, is the highest curvature attained by any bending ionic polymer actuator to date. It can operate comfortably up to a 2 Hz driving frequency and can achieve blocked forces of up to 0.76 mN. Our results showcase a promising, high-performing biocompatible ionic polymer actuator, whose membrane can be easily manufactured in a single step using a standard FDM 3D printer. This approach paves the way for creating customized designs for functional soft robotic applications, including human-interactive devices, in the near future. © 2025, CC BY.

The usage of online entertainment has increased dramatically after some time with the enhancement of the Internet and has turned into the most compelling systems administration stage in this century. This paper provides a review of popular fault diagnosis methods in the power subsystem and electrical machine of electric drives. The review aims to explore the different approaches used to detect faults in these components and the most common types of faults encountered in electric drives. The paper first provides an overview of the power subsystem and electrical machine and their respective functions within the electric drive system. It then proceeds to discuss the different types of faults that can occur in these components, including overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and short circuits. The review evaluates the various fault diagnosis methods available for these components, including model-based, signal-based, and artificial intelligence-based approaches. Model-based approaches use mathematical models of the system to detect and diagnose faults. Signal-based approaches rely on the analysis of measured signals to detect changes in system behavior that indicate a fault. Artificial intelligence-based approaches use machine learning algorithms to identify patterns in data and detect faults. Model-based approaches are highly accurate but can be computationally intensive. Signal-based approaches are less computationally intensive but may be less accurate in certain situations. Artificial intelligence-based approaches are versatile but require significant amounts of data for training. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in fault diagnosis methods for the power subsystem and electrical machine of electric drives. The review concludes by suggesting potential areas for future research to further improve the accuracy and efficiency of fault diagnosis methods for electric drives.

This paper presents an innovative approach to identifying defects in alloy wheel production by integrating image processing techniques with a mobile application platform. The system receives X-ray alloy images from the factory via mobile phone, processes them using image processing techniques to enhance clarity and readiness for defect detection, and then transmits the processed images to a Django framework via a uniform resource locator (URL). Subsequently, the system detects defects in the images, encodes them in Base64 format, and sends them to the mobile application through an API (Application Program Interface) for display on the user interface. This well-designed system architecture offers manufacturers a comprehensive solution to ensure product quality, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Distributed fibre optic sensing (DFOS) is gaining popularity as a diagnostic solution for non-destructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM). However, there are still challenges to be overcome, particularly with regard to long-term measurements under real field conditions, taking into account temperature changes. These changes affect strain readings and appropriate correction depends on the internal design of the sensor and the installation methods. The novelty of the presented research lies in 1) the theoretical explanation on thermal performance of monolithic DFOS sensors in comparison to the layered sensing cables;2) the analysis and correction for strain data measured with monolithic sensors placed in a thermal chamber;3) the verification of the laboratory results and the proposed approach in real field conditions: in a concrete footbridge deck and in a steel underground gas pipeline. All the measurements presented hereafter were performed with high spatial resolution (mm order) Rayleigh-based devices. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
